Me too! My Macbook 4,1 isn't used as much anymore, and pretty soon I'm going to be building a badass hackintosh that will replace my Windows Desktop and Macbook entirely. Plus I have multiple 2.5" HDDs for various testing available to me. So I'm ready willing to test anything you've got HackerWayne!

I'm not a noob either, but I'm not completely versed in this stuff. I can probably figure things out for testing purpose though.

And again... You're never, ever going to see a fully featured, 64-bit kext for the x3100 unless Apple release one. It takes large teams of people to write, test and maintain a graphics driver - you definitely won't get one from the community.

Wolf in sheep's clothing...

Hi guys,

I had a go at booting an old 2006 xServe with ML and got it happening no problem.

What I’ve since found out though is that the 64bit kernel is still “governed” by 32bit kernel parameters (i.e. as received from the 32bit EFI)

What this means is, that the moment the 64bit kernel steps past these parameters, (because it can as it knows it has more RAM to do so) you’ll get a KP/restart… ouch…

This is what’s happening to me when I installed ZEVO, which requires a 64bit kernel.
It’s post 860 of the thread where “Hackerwayne” explains the issue.

So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that if you do anything that asks the kernel to extend beyond how a 32bit kernel boots…. YSOOL…

This would have implications for software like Apache, MySQL and PostgreSQL etc, where setting sysctl parameters of the kernel can benefit these apps…

ZEVO is available here if anyone wishes to test/play for themselves… It’s well worth sussing out anyway in case you don’t know how shizen and old HFS is…
Once installed and setup, just do a simply drag-n-drop copy greater than a few gig and you’ll quickly see what I mean… 8((

So, Wayne, were you really going to write a guide to updating ML to 10.8.2 or was that a joke?

Just download the combo updates from Apples website, and update with Pacifist. Do not check the boxes in the prompts that come up, just hold enter for like 10-20 minutes. If you check the boxes it can take hours and hours to update.

Yep, I can testify that you could be waiting up to 24 hours otherwise!!

10.8.2

OK, so I downloaded 10.8.2 combo update and istalled it with Pacifist(using two AA batteries on the enter key) but when I restart I get the prohibited sign.
This is what I am trying to avoid.
Will somebody help me get a BOOTABLE 10.8.2 update?
Thanks.

Can you boot into a separate partition and replace/check replace the platform support plists and boot.efi files?

MacBook Working w/ Dictation and Fixed X3100 Launchpad issue (partially)

Hi guys I can confirm dictation working on my hacked ML install on my 3,1 White Macbook.
The X3100 is very laggy but i found a nice way to get around it taking 30sec-1min to load launchpad.

Just go to Terminal and type :

defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-show-duration -int 0

defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-hide-duration -int 0

killall Dock

That will totally remove launchpad animations.

For Mission control type these commands:

defaults write com.apple.dock expose-animation-duration -int 0; killall Dock

Your Welcome :) .. I hope we can get a working kext soon though

In some posts, it seems like this would not work on an older Macbook Pro with x1600 due to the lack of 64 bit kext. But in the updated instructions this model is in yellow and states, "MacBookPros with X1600 > Graphics Issue (Frame buffer mode with Core Image lacks Quartz Extreme)"

I want to install 10.8 on my Macbook Pro with x1600 only to run 10.8 Server and to serve Filemaker Pro. Will the graphics issue make this plan not possible?

Success

Ok, so did you make any necessary changes?

So, I saved PlatformSupport.plist from my existing ML 10.8.1 install, then installed 10.8.2 using Pacifist, I then restarted in Lion and replaced the saved file in the 10.8.2 CoreServices folder and tried restarting.
Amazingly it worked,
I was surprised, I've tried this a couple of times with no luck.
Thank you to everyone who've been patient with me as I fumble along.
Now if my DVD player would work.

What's wrong with DVDPlayer? If its the issue I think it is the supplemental update, (assuming it shows you need it in software update), should fix.

DVD player gives me a message that there is NO DEVICE AVAILABLE INITIALIZATION ERROR. It works fine in Lion. I did use the supplemental update.
Thanks.

Hmm, tell me;
Can Disk Utility/System Profiler see the device?
What do you get when you type nvram -p into a terminal window?
Also there is a thread on Apple Support that mentions replacing the DVD Player framework with an earlier one. I'll see if I can find.....

EDIT: Here's the first and the second that I was looking at.

Strange. I got a similar error when I tried to play a DVD under Tiger, (yes Tiger).

You can use it as a server. Framebuffer mode loads, no acceleration whatsoever.

System Profiler/Disk Utility both see the drive as does Toast. I just burned a CD.
I tried the Framework trick but it did'nt work.

I don't know how to get logs. Is the DVDPlayer executable the same as the app?

Yep, right click DVDPlayer. Then Contents/MacOS. Launch by double clicking that file. Then have a look at Console.app for around the time of your launching it.
