Btw, how to use "spoiler" on this forum? Very hard for me to do a neat guide without the spoiler feature. Im completely rewriting the guide, to support 10.8.2 and to fix graphics & power management issue
Dunno what a Spolier is Wayne.

I tried to download the file "MountainLionHack.zip" but the link is not working : (
Any ideas ?
I don't think there is such a feature implemented on this forum
Just tried the link: the click to MediaFire does work, but then clicking "Download" gives you "Your download is starting..." but it doesn't get any further. Looks like a site issue.Im pretty sure the link works. Those files are a bit outdated, a newer version is being prepared right now.
1. Yes, anything except 7300gt
2. Yes, kernal is running in 32 bit mode, but the OS is 64bit.
3. 64bit kernal is practically useless cuz the OS itself is running in 64bit, its just like a PC with BIOS in 32bit but has no problem running 64bit Windows
4. There isnt really a reason for Apple to do that. No one can guarantee this except Apple, we'll see how it goes in the future dev release.
4. No, it doesnt require it to be flashed to MP2,1 as even MP2,1 does not have 64 bit kernal.

BTW, any ETA on your new version? I have a 10.6.8 system that I tried to upgrade to ML, and now it just shows the gray Apple icon screen while booting. Was wondering whether I should wait for your new version if it's coming soon (e.g., within a day or so), or try this again ... however, I'm out of luck if the link still isn't working.
Lets clear things up.
Things that will be implemented in the upcoming guide.
* Fix for X3100, GMA 950 and X1600 graphics card!
* Sleep and power management fix
* Support for 10.8.2
* Enable older version of OpenGL. (Glitchy, but works!)
* No more OpenCL issues!
* Video Tutorial!
Things that will not be implemented in the upcoming guide.
* Automated App/Installer. (Will be in the next version, ironed out all the issues first )
* iMessage, iCloud, FaceTime won't work!
When will it be up?
Today or tomorrow!
Hello, if I may, I'd have a few questions regarding the ML running on a MP1,1:
1. How should I flash Radeon 5770 so it would work with MP1,1 running mountain lion? I know there were some issues with running newer GPUs in older 2006 & 2007 Mac Pros because their 32-bit EFI couldn't load cards with ROMs for EFI64, but since MP1,1 running mountain lion no longer works with the cards that were originally offered with it, therefore don't support 64-bit OS, which ROM shall I use? => ROM for pre-2008 MPs or for post-2008 MPs
Do you think that purchasing an Apple branded 5770 would be a safe bet to work without any additional effort? (even though buying apple branded card is the last option left if everthing else fails, as they cost a fortune. I am sure though there must be aftermarket PC 5770 suitable for MP1,1, that would give boot screens on DVI. but which one - that is the quesion)
So if someone around here has an experience wih flashed PC 5770, please share the knowledge with me I need boot screens, that is crucial...
2. how should I apply system updates? In a normal manner, trough Mac App Store combo updates or othrewise? (this topic probably was discussed here already but after reading the fist 15 pages of the thread, I gave up seaching, so I apologise in advace...)
3. I suppose that if my 2006 MP can run 64-bi mountain lion, it can as well run W7 x64 in bootcamp, right? because on evrymac.com they say, that only 32-bit W7 is supported...
Thank you in advance
In the end I would like to say hat I really appreciate your work on this project, will definitely donate in the future.
very good! why iMessage won't work? the guide from MLforAll that you said was not safe, could make them work without problem...
you should definitely collaborate!
1. flash 32bit version. Tons of guide available here on MacRumors
2. Im in the process of creating a new guide. If you're using the new guide/upcoming guide, DO NOT apply system updates as it will brick the system. Custom made software combo update(s) might be available here in the future.
3. 64 bit Windows 7 is supported, just the boot camp refuses to install onto a 64bit system. Theres a workaround available on the net.
----------
Not safe as in:
1. It uses DP1 kernel. All of them.
2. Future update will brick the system
3. iMessage will not be fixed in this version. Ironed out the major issues first.
----------
Its extremely hard to make a neat guide without the "spoiler" feature.
can't you create a page/website outside the forum?
Violate forum T&C right? For linking users outside of this forum. Im already in process of updating the guide using the format as the current one
sorry, didn't know about that...so please do your best
Omg.. didnt know this forum can't embed YouTube Videos too.. Zzz
Yes it can, use the [youtube] tags.
For this to work, do we need the lion partition after the hack is complete? If so Why.

New guide no longer require an existing partition.
Is what is up there the new guide or is some still missing?
I will limit my comments to the part of this I know well.
1. there is only 1 (one) version of the EFI for a 5770. Netkas made it from the Apple one. It is written in EBC, it works in either EFI32 or EFI64. I helped with early testing and wrote most of the simple variants that are out there.
2. There are ZERO (0) flashed 5770s or 5870s with boot screen via DVI. The best you will do is boot screen via VGA when connected to DVI via a pass through adapter.(ie, standard DVI to VGA adaptor). There is an obscure trick that works if you have one of the Dell displays that has multiple input choices. Basically you can connect the same display to 2 ports at once, the EDID gets read from one and output sent via the other. Won't work for 99% of people so it is rarely mentioned. Flashed 4870s offer DVI boot screen or get an Apple 5770 or 5870 for full support. Nvidia choices are even skimpier if you want DVI boot screen.
Thank you very much for the information.
I've also done some research on this and I will probably opt for a flashed Sapphire HD4870 after all - it is less expensive and more powerful than OEM Apple 5770. Or maybe, if I'll be able to get one for a fair price, 4870x2.
AFAIK, netkas got it working with earlier versions of OS X, where it would perform as a singe-chip 4870, while Boot Camp could still take advantage of its internal cross-fire, which is nice. However, I have no clue about it functionality under Lion/Mountain Lion. Will have to test it.
Avoid 4870x2 unless you enjoy battles.
I was the one with card, Netkas sent me things to try.
Was bothersome and needed more power than available, would crash entire machine.
