Audio compatibility/Mic problem is already fixed. Just download the X1600 patch but only install AppleHDA.kext X3100 still in testing, its completely a new approach. We're completely using 32bit kernel and 32 bit extensions, some from 10.7.5 some from 10.8 beta 1. This approach was first suggested by MLForAll. We're now working together via skype and will provide the best solution for everyone ;)

----------

Thank you so much for your efforts, hackerwayne.

I have the MacBook4,1 - and I see the x3100 is still in private beta testing.

Is is stable so far? Does sleep work?

Thank you!

The New Approach
Because we're now using a completely different approach, (previously we focus on getting X3100 to work on 64bit, now we're trying to make ML work with 32 bit so we can get full graphics acceleration, this solves all the graphics issue and power management issues, like sleep, brightness, OpenGL and full acceleration. ;).

The problem?
Things used to work now doesn't. Eg: External drives doesn't mount, Disk Utility is crappy, unable to connect to LAN servers/AppleTV. Which sucks.

We got a solution for the problem above! :)
By modifying kexts from 10.7.5, these problems are about to be solved.

Grey screen instead of login

Hey all,

I tried to patch my installed system (Mac Pro 2,1 using the hackintosh solution) with just the boot.efi files etc and it boots but I get a grey screen instead of login. Anyone got an idea what it could be?

Have you tried other ports? Or Verbose boot to see anything out of the ordinary? I wouldn't recommend "porting" it over from Chameleon. Try a new install maybe?

Yeah, I logged on to the machine via ssh and the only thing I saw that was odd was that the WindowServer was taking up 100 % cpu (1 core).

I haven't installed any kernel extensions to this, it's a vanilla ML install.

Well, tried the installer and it fails on the last stage. So it goes to 0 procent left then it says it failed and suggests I try again. I did and the same thing happened.

I think I'll go with the mackintosh for a while since it works and I it takes me 2 days to do a complete re-install.

Read the guide again. Installation Failed is absolutely normal.

Hi,

I've been following this thread for a while now, your work is awesome!

I have an iMac 4,1 20inch that has had the cpu upgraded to a 2.0GHz C2D and flashed with the 5,1 firmware. I added my board id into the plist file in your hack and got all the way to adding in the x1600 kexts, then at reboot my graphics are all messed up and corrupted, any idea what I've done wrong?

Must have missed a step along the way, started from scratch and all is working so far! Excellent work!

Just curious, why is it that iCloud isn't working as yet?

The priority is to get every Mac working first before we start fixing those small issues. ;) Hows your iMac? Smooth? I think it works better then Lion.

I agree! it's really smooth, I have an SSD installed and 3GB of RAM but it feels snappier than Lion on the same system!

Is there anything I can do to help? tests of the system for example?

X1600 black fullscreen issue

Hello everybody,

I came across this thread some time ago and since then I visited the forum from time to time. As I realized recently that the X1600 is fully working on Mountain Lion I was in a hurry to get this done. And I must say that I am pretty impressed by the work being done (THANK YOU!). Anyway I just came across a frustrating bug. Within some games (native/Wineskin) the screen renders totally black when entering fullscreen or even in window-mode (in this case the window only) though the sound just play's as it is supposed to be. I searched the web for this problem and I found a few entries that something like this can be caused be rendering the content off screen through I really don't know what actually happens.
So far I tested:
"Colin McRea Really Mac" (native [Feral Interactive] - no window-mode)
"Black & White 2" (native [Feral Interactive] - no window-mode)
"Jump Birdy Jump" (native, AppStore - only fullscreen effected)
and everything what relies on X11 (XQuartz - e.g. Wineskin) WRONG... my mistake: they work as well as cider ports
Real Racing 2 is not effected.

I hope you can help me solving the issue, in case there is no "easy" fix for this.
I did not use the installer being mentioned (v1.0 for X1600), but did it as post #1 advised me to do.

Thanks,
Rastafabi

(Indeed it's running smoother than Lion does!)

EDIT:
Playing movies (Quicktime/Flash) works seamlessly anyway.
---
iCloud? No Messages/Calendar/Contacts though I migrated my previous system.
Dictation does not work?! Pop-up closes directly when opened.
(I hope to get those working.)

EDIT:
iCloud fix in progress

I have a MacBook Pro 2,2
ML is successfully installed and working. Theres just a couple problems.
iCloud does not work, ive been trying to find a way to changing my model identifier to a supported model, that should fix that problem. Also, the boot times can range from 5 min to 20 min. That is absolutely dreadful.
Mainly I'm interested if I can safely update using software update? I actually did the install with 10.8.0. It thinks its 10.8.2, but it isnt, I can tell by the lack of features, and the ML app was the same one I bought for my other computer when it was released so, I didnt fancy re-downloading 4 GBs. So basically my question is, with my working 10.8.0, can I safely run the 10.8.2 combo update?

Changing model identifier is not possible on real Macs unless you use Chameleon, which isn't recommended. Unfortunately, you should have used 10.8.2 installer. The kexts n OpenGL are fined tuned for 10.8.2 that explains why it take so long to boot. Using 10.8.2 Combo will brick the system and you have to start over again. So no, theres no way you can update

Yes, as stated iCloud, Messages does not work. Calender and Contacts should work without problem unless you attempt to sync with iCloud, then it doesn't. Long story short, anything that requires you to login with your Apple ID doesn't except App Store/iTunes Store.

Regarding on the black screen issue, i suspect thats caused by OpenGL. I don't think its an easy fix. I will focus on that once we finish testing for X3100 n GMA950.

----------

I can test one Mac Pro 1.1 with 7300GT over the weekend if you will still need it.

Yes i will need that. But be advised, 7300GT runs poorly on ML, due to its age.

Yes i will need that. But be advised, 7300GT doesn't run well on ML. (Even on Lion it kinda suck) Its better if you can upgrade to something better. GT210 is dirt cheap nowadays. XD

Macbook with X3100

First a big thanks for your hard work on the older MacBooks, Hackerwayne.
Have successfully followed your guide, and are now on 10.8.2 on my macbook 4.1.

Any idea when X3100 beta drivers are ready for download?

@hackerwayne,

Are you waiting for the 10.8.3 update as well, which seems to be around the corner? Or we'll cross that bridge when we'll get there...?

This may get an iCloud fix

Yes, as stated iCloud, Messages does not work. Calender and Contacts should work without problem unless you attempt to sync with iCloud, then it doesn't. Long story short, anything that requires you to login with your Apple ID doesn't except App Store/iTunes Store.

Well, I just made some progress concerning iCloud:
Contacts & Calendar Sync DO work.
iTunes Store & AppStore DO work.
GameCenter DOES work.
FaceTime & Messages attempt to log in but after editing the options (using the mobile phone number/email address) it stops the login process with an error message that the server would not be available.

Things I did to achieve this:
  1. Using the migration assistant to migrate my old account as well as preferences and documents (Does not need to be directly after the installation).
  2. Deleting the network preferences (*BOOT DRIVE*/Library/Prefernces/SystemConfiguration/*EVERYTHING*)
  3. Reboot
  4. Opening the " menu" (upper left), choose "System Preferences ...", choose "Network", selecting the rack-wheel next to the "-" (bottom left) and choosing "Order [...]", making Ethernet my first choice and Wifi my second, selecting "Okay", selecting "Apply"
  5. Running the following Terminal Commands (Terminal: /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
    • sudo nano /etc/hosts verify that every entry including apple.com and verisign.com start with a #. If there aren't any entries like this enter # [SPACE] 127.0.0.1 [TAB] verisign.com. Now press ^X then Y and last ENTER.
    • sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

This made the trick for me... You can try on your own risk, as I'm not responsible for any damage made to your system.

If you know/find out how to make Messages and FaceTime fully working please post it!

Edit:
Sorry, the title should be: This may BECOME an iCloud fix...

Yes, im waiting for 10.8.3 to update the guide all together. I don't want my method to be patched in 10.8.3 cuz Apple can easily patch this and future version will no longer work.

I figured that one out the hard way.. lol. Its okay though because I re downloaded my ML, so 10.8.2, did a reinstall. 10.8.2 seems to be working better, faster boot time, still not as fast as lion but better.

Is chameleon the only way? I know I could edit SMBios.plist but I've read mostly that it won't change anything. I know the MBP 3,1 has the same body as mine, but is supported for ML, therefore that should solve the iCloud problem.

What are the chances we'll ever be able to install updates without a full re installation? Or could there be a way to modify the update packages the same way we did for the initial mountain lion install? I'm more then willing to try things out when the updates start rolling around.
