[Guide] Success! Install 10.8 on old unsupported Mac

I would not call it success, only crazy kids could call it success because 10.8 is ridiculous MacOS X ever was made, tons of bugs and who would want 10.8? I want to go back to 10.6 but unfortunately my MacBook Air 2011 doesn't support it, I run 10.7.5 and it drives me nuts, tired 10.8 and was back in 10.7.5 in few days.

Apple does not understand what they are doing, I have the impression that they have lost their brains after Steve past away.

Although I very much like this project to succeed (esp. for my Macbook3,1), I don't understand what realy is wrong with 10.7.5 I may touch a sensitive nerve here (...) but it let's me do everything I want (ow, sorry, no Age of Empires II anymore), maybe I'll have to wait a second longer now and then, but it works, and then quite good.

I do admit however that Apple should care more for their long term costumers and support more hardware with 10.8. They should invest some of their fortune in developping drivers for somewhat older videocards etc. They can't make money with (or can they? More will by ML), but they'd gain a lot of goodwill.

Whats wrong with 10.8? Excuse me? Are you running some dinosaur software? If not why you still wanna go back to 10.6? You really want 10.6 on your 2011 MBA? Ive succeeded on that just in case you're wondering. I didn't create a guide for that since its absolutely pointless.

Before I get a HD 5770 is it correct that the system will re-start when it does not have the HD 5770 or other newer Graphics card?

Hey @hackerwayne, I have a question. I am currently running MLforAll's 10.8.2 ML setup on my Black Macbook 4,1. Following his guide I have made ML my main partition and no longer have Lion on my SSD. When you release the kexts and guide for X3100, how do I install it on my computer? Is it possible without 10.7?

Yes, its possible without Lion if you already have MLForAlls's V2 on it.

Hi iCloud is not working on my iMac x1600 and even after installing the kexts files the graphics feels slow can you make a video and how to install the graphics drivers please I am a little

hey bro ive tried to install mlforall version i did everything the guide says but when i install it it doesnt save any of the files to the ML partition it says empty after booting back into lion partition i have the same Macbook 4,1 as u any help with this?

Come on guys, you can't expect them to 'make a video' for every user on this forum... Just read the instructions, it's all there, and read ALL of this thread. YOU want to experiment with an unsupported OS on your unsupported computer, so it also requires some level of self-help!

hackerwayne and MLforALL are working hard to make it all possible, and when they'll have a solution I trust them to post it here. Until then, wait or experiment yourself, and check into this thread regularly.

Update to Lion, get used to it, then only you attempt this hack.

My method will be a combined effort between the 2 of us. So I will be using his "barebone" (script, commands etc) but with my patched files in it. So the method will be fairly similar to the one in MLForAll's V2

4. Install the kexts included in the hack using Kext Utility by cVadMac

OpenGL folder is at the Frameworks folder. Sorry for not making that clear. Frameworks folder is @ /System/Library/Frameworks

If you've done everything correctly, it should work out of the box

It looks like I have done things wrong
I have set my system to start in Verbose mode to see where it goes wrong.
When the DSMOS has arrived it goes IOBluetooth and then the AppleIntel8254XEEthernet for 2 lines and then it goes wrong.
A large number of line revering to Sound assertion and it re-boots.

Anny idea what I have done wrong or can do to fix it

Running 100% perfect on my late 2006, X1600 iMac. It's runs SO MUCH quicker than Lion did! If anybody is out there & is hesitant on doing this - it's really not that hard at all with the great guide Wayne provides & honestly makes everything so much quicker over Lion. Thank you!

Did you install AppleHDA? Only the part that says "For X1600" is actually for X1600 lol.. The rest works on everything. to remove AppleHDA, boot in Single user mode (google that) then mount the drive, and type rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

then type reboot

Hi wayne, with reference to the below;

UPDATE: 15th of March 2013
Apple has released 10.8.3 currently incompatible with my hacked files. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UPDATE VIA SOFTWARE UPDATE as it will screw up X1600 cards completely. For Xserve and Mac Pro's, (with upgraded graphics card) you will need to manually replace PlatformSupport.plist again from MLHack10.8.2!

I was going to try another install, (have just downloaded the full 10.8.3 installer). You're saying I should await some updated hack files or am I good to go?

This is a great hack. My iMac late 2006 works perfectly with this new hack. But the only thing holding me back from not using this as my main OS is that iCloud does not work, hacker_wayne can you fix it? Please thanks in advance

The 2011 Air does support it actually. Done it myself on a 13" to test and to help me begin my search for a replacement laptop. ;-)

I have not installed attentionality AppleHDA.kext.
I have followed the instruction to the letter all the way up to 5.1
I do not get to The Big Moment point 6.
As I have a Mac Pro 2.1 with a 7300 GT card I have not installed the files for th x1600 card.
When I do the installation their is the point where you can select options just before the system will install. This option list is empty. Is that correct?
I have a number of PC running on OSX so I know that sometimes you need to select some parts and not other parts.
I will try to remove the AppleHDA.kext.
Is it notrequired to run a permission then ?

I removed the AppleHDA.kext. I do not get the list but now just after the bluetooth part it reboots!
