YAY!!!!!!! WHat specs?

I bet it doesn't take 7 days though. I ordered mine on the 7th. They said it would ship on the 12th with a delivery of the 18th. Mine shipped Sunday and is on the truck right now. Today is the 12th. My guess is you'll get it much sooner than 10 days.

Exciting isn't it???? We should use this thread for guidance from others on what to do etc. I did have a G4 back in 2003 (my FIRST MAC) but it was Jaguar which I never updated. Not quite sure how Tiger works

I'm hoping its not gonna take 10 days, cos i go back to uni in (counts) 8 days

I got the biggest and bestest one I could afford - 2.16, 2GB, 100GB 7200rmp - thankyou student discount for making that all come just in below £2000....

I'm so scared they're about to release some kinda sooper dooper amazing update tomorrow tho...

My friend (who converted me) brought an iBook 2 years ago and a week later they released the update, he was gutted. I just hope that doesnt happen to me....

eVolcre: when's the eta of the package?

Man, I hear you on the update. Scares the crap out of me. I waited for so long because I thought this might be a quick update (like the Lombard I think) and within 4 months they released the 'real' update with a new form. What changed my mind is that the MBP really IS a new form factor. It's not the exact same case as the PB G4. Right?

ETA - package is on the truck as we speak. I can't open it till Thursday though!!! :( Class all day today and tomorrow.

I got the EXACT same package as you. Top of the line. I figured if I'm spening so much money, may as well spend the little extra for what I want, which is usually the best. The only thing I added to your order was Applecare, iWork and .Mac. Did you get .mac too? It's only 69 when you buy a mac (as oppsoed to 99 by itself)

I say we stop looking at Macrumors for 6 months once we get our machines up and ready. That way, if there IS an update, we won't know about it,. :D

Thursdays ageeees, I'm not sure i could wait that long (2 days, yeah i know, i have 10, but if i knew it was there....)

I didnt get apple care - cos you get 1yrs warrenty with it, and then i can get applecare in 1yrs time, so giving me a total of 4yrs warrenty ;-)

dont know what .mac is, but looking on the website, its got a 60 day trial, so i will look at that when i have free time again (post exams)

no iWork either - will evaluate after the trial tho.

as for not looking at this website after arival - Bang on. Never, not till i discover a problem, i think im going to go radio-silent and everything, just incase!

Incorrect. Applecare starts from the purchase date (or there abouts) of the computer, not from the purchase of Applecare. You can however purchase Applecare before your 1 year warranty expires.

My iMac hasn't shipped still... no biggie I guess...

Gives slientpanda a {{{{{HUG}}}}} I like pandas. Cute little buggers!

I knew I was going to buy Applecare anyway, so i went ahead and picked it up right away.

And yeah, radio silence for a year will be imperative to keep my sanity. I do NOT want to hear about new form factors or merom or anything. Will stick my head into the ground like an ostrich and be perfectly happy doing that ...

rubbish (on both accounts)

at least i'll get the interest on my money for a year tho :)

how long has your iMac been under Stevie-boy's inspection for?

rubbish (on both accounts)

He's right dude. You buy the comp today, get one free year warranty, right before the warranty expires you have the option of buying Applecare. Your warranty gets EXTENDED 2 years, giving you a total of 3.

Unless I misunderstood what rubbish means. :)

Interest on $270 for a year is , mmm, like 5 bucks. LOL.

I just ordered a MBP a few days ago. Pretty much the same setup but I only got the 2.0 cause I'm poor :( but I did get the 7200 HD and thanks to a military discount it only cost me about 2490 and thats with a neoprene sleeve. (my spelling is terrible) Now for the long wait its gonna kill me. It says its not supposed to ship until the 13 but I called to ask a few questions today and they said it looks like it might ship today I really hope it does but I'm doubtful. This is my first Mac and I'm really excited. Hope you guys get yours soon.

'sweets'? CANDY!!! :p

And no, I for one, haven't seen a single piece of candy you can buy for a cent. WHat exactly do you get for a penny over there? Decent stuff or just horrible>?

Anyway, back to our MBP celebration. *insert happy dance*

The best sleeve I found, for my purposes, is the BOOQ Powersleeve 15. What's cool is that it is a mini bag. Just room for the machine, couple of adaptors and maybe a think file/notebook. Perfect for meetings or coffee shop trips. And, the way it works, is that you can take the strap off and put the sleeve into a larger bag or briefcase where it acts like a ... 'sleeve'

Aight, so for all us new purchasers, what are we doing on startup to make sure everything works?

So far I think the issues are the whining, the dead pixels and the screen? Right?

The sleeve was 29 I have a bag (one of the brief case style ones) that I will be using since i can hold books and a bunch of other stuff in there with it.

My estimated dates are the same as yours. Did they send you something telling you is had shipped? I'm in Illinois right outside Saint Louis.

Yup, they sent me an email when it shipped. I'm in West Lafayette btw. (Indiana)

As I said, I ordered it on Friday and got a message on Sunday saying ti had shipped. It was held up in Shanghai. Yesterday evening (5PM) it was in Alaska. This morning, it was on a truck being delivered. Cool, eh!

Well, best description of the sweets, is like, um, you know haribo, well, its kinda like the ringshaped gummy sweets, that kinda thing.

Well, i dont want to think about the issues

Dead pixels, is a hardware issue yeah - whats the policy on them?
(I heard PCWorld in the uk had to have over something like 10 dead pixels in the area of a 10pence piece (thats like, the size of a quater) to qualify for a replacement, you could have like, ton's of deadpixels dotted about the place and still get told tough!)

As for the CPU whine, well, it sounds to be well, apple's fault not hardware fault, so hopefully they can release somekind of patch to fix that soon (please)

other than that - doing the egg-frying test ;)

Yeah, I don't want to think of issues either. I think this whine might be something you are hearing because you WANT to hear it. And anyway, after so many years of clubbing and raves, my hearing is probably shot.

OK, fun question. What do you plan on keeping on your dashboard? and, what hot corners will you set up? (yeah, im a loooser, i have spent time thinking of the optimal hot corner positioning)

Bottom right for show all windows (close to the scroll bar)

Top right for all windows within an application

Bottom Left for dashboard (will probably use it a lot and a sweep to the left is natural if you're left handed)

Top left for desktop

:)

Actually, I mistyped. I meant sweep to the left is more natural if you'er RIGHT handed. Try it out, I did. LOL :D

The MacBook Pro's are gonna be updated in a few weeks when the MacBook's are released!!! Cancel your order!!!

I call BS on that. What's yo0ur source? There is a 17" MB Pro expected with similar specs as the current MBP but a different size. There is no relation to the release of the MacBook and the current Macbook Pro.

As I said, back up what you'r saying or you jst seem ... imbalanced to put it politely :p

If they come out with a 17" macbook pro, they will also up the current 15". They don't just release new models of a lineup without altering the rest of the lineup.

eVolcre

Don't worry about it. My source? None. Maybe they'll update them, maybe they won't... but you'll have a computer that you're happy with. Computers are always outdated.

macgeek2005 might be right that they will get updated but he doesn't "know" anymore than I know they won't be. If they do... meh... if they aren't... you have more time with your MBP before it is outdated. :p

That's true. Either way, the laptop you're getting will be worth every penny of the $3500!! That thing is a monster in speed.
