Micro Led. It still likely will be in development for another 2/3 years at minimum, but I do forsee this being the next GEN display, I don’t think OLED will be a consideration for the iPad. The benefits for Micro-Led are significant with increased brightness, higher resolution and doesn’t draw as much power, which will result in longer battery life.

The tab S4 gets around 10 hours of battery life with a nice bright HDR AMOLED Display...no issues with battery life and thats on android (full day usage typically as well and I still go to sleep with remaining power around 40% and even better if just watching and streaming video/movies). There is no better display on a tablet device in my opinion than whats on the tab S4. I imagine the battery life with an oled display on iOS should be even better. You should not have to wait for microLED.....

Reassurance from Apple that not only bend issue is resolved but also that they acknowledge that touch issue exists and is resolved on new models... before that I’m not buying any tech from them. Hidden problems with their hardware went way too far and don’t justify the price.

I would much prefer OS upgrade as well. Running MacOS would be great, but I would settle with a proper File System and Xcode support.

At the moment, I cannot download any file from a website that uses script (i.e. PHP) redirection to my iPad, such as an epub, zip or rar attached to a forum post, just because iOS has no proper File System support. This feature limit annoys me the most and thus makes iPad unfeasible as a main device for me.

Ditto for external hard drive support. I was so excited when they announced USB-C but when I found out I still cannot read from an external drive, I was so disappointed. Apple allows us to "mount" cloud drives such Google Drive, use webdav, and yet for the love of God, it doesn't even bother to allow mounting for external drive.

Also, I want to use the iPad with USB-C as an external monitor for the new Mac Mini without using external software.

The only reason I haven't and won't upgrade mine and my wife's iPad Pro's this year is the durability issue. I have seen way too many posts where people have bent iPads, some admittedly their fault and others that were bent out of the box. I know that the bending is not as widespread as some would have you believe. Regardless, this version has an obvious flaw that allows them to become damaged way to easily.
After the Mega thread on Bending issues you are the only one to mention making the iPad Pro stronger sturdier.

There wasn’t enough in the 2018 iPad pros to get me to upgrade my 2nd gen 12.9 and I don’t think that the new one is just one feature away from pushing me over the edge. It would probably take multiple things like mouse support and better file system support for external storage.

That goes without saying. I am sure Apple will do something to make sure this isn’t an issue in the next version. It’s not an issue for me. My 11” ipad pro is straight as a razor and kicks major ass. Love this thing. So i won’t be upgrading for awhile.

iOS or “iPadOS” made specifically for iPads that feature at least the following:
  • Proper File System. With ability to download any file from the web.
  • Being able to use external hard drive and/or thumb drive.
  • Being able to open multiple windows of the same app (Example: 2 word documents at the same time)
I will unfortunately stick to my original iPad Air even though it’s terribly laggy/slow and not upgrade until these features arrive. Kinda sucks since being a fanboy and all but also dissapointing being loyal and getting the short end of the stick with this premium device compared to competing tablets.

Ok what’s the #1. New feature that our current 11” or 12.9” iPad Pros Don’t have that that you wish we head and you will Upgrade and get a new model just to have this one new feature?

I'd happily upgrade to a new iPad that is the very same except that looking at it doesn't cause it to bend itself.

- Full fat, desktop-class browser
- Option to set a different browser as the default browser
- Apps don't stop uploading/downloading after a few minutes in the background (Dropbox)
- Full access to external storage over USB-C
- Same access to a file system as on a computer (minus system files)
- NFC (for Yubikey)

As long as they don't implement that, an iPad has only limited value for me.

Fix the touch issues, make them stronger (no bending please) and cut the price. Stop the thin and gimping by using cheaper materials and charging more for it.

I am waiting on the iPad Mini, if it has pencil support and more RAM, sold. Otherwise, I am doing relatively fine with the 2018 iPad (hiccups in Procreate not withstanding).

i just want oled number 1, number 2 would be mini sized so in the 8.X inch range

I’d only upgrade my iPad Pro for hardware features that will help me get work done, which for me are:
- display functionality for my MBP, with pencil input (ie. a portable Cintiq)
- paper-like Pencil on screen feel for better drawing control
- maybe increased storage

As long as my iPP maintains its current performance, all other hardware features are pretty insignificant to me.

I want to be able to connect my USB-powered flatbed scanner to it via an adapter (USB-A to USB-C).

Official remote desktop (which allows unofficial support to Windows PC if we find a way to it) featuring full Apple Pencil support and obsolete display tablets like Cintiq, etc. and remote desktop apps like Astropad, etc..

Even if it requires some hardware changes then yeah I'd upgrade for that alone.

Time is the only thing that'll be holding me of a new iPad upgrade. I tend to do it in 3-4 year cycles.

Edit: Looking back at the responses here, all I see is a Wishlist of often undesirable features like mouse support. Sounds more like these people don't already have a iPad rather than wishing to upgrade their existing one. I am excited for full Photoshop, but haven't been limited as its already fantastic for Lightroom and a usb-c port means I can finally import directly from CFast and soon CFExpress.

Honestly, I still use and love my 9.7" iPP.
There's nothing I can even think of that I would change really other than I guess reducing the weight over time?

I don't need or want FaceID or no bezels.
I'm totally fine with Bezels (prefer them I think) and love having a place to really grip with my hands.

I have TrueTone...I'm Jailbroken...I can use a Pencil if I want... I've got my unlimited LTE SIM in there..
It would take an enormously impactful hardware change to get me off of this unit right now.

I just can't think of anything I would change.

In fact, the one change they did make on the current 11" that I personally hate is the aspect ratio change. I play a ton of emulated old games and watch lots of old SD content from my Plex and 4:3 is perfect/native for most of that. So, for me, they are actually actively going in the wrong direction - lol

Software is where the development needs to happen.

If that gets dramatically better, that would get me off my jailbroken iOS 11, but nothing in iOS 12 is even close to compelling in that regard.

Personally, I think the latest iPads represent the next 3-4 years in terms of iPads and overall design. The new models essentially changed everything from the previous iPad Pro. Elimination of bezels, home button, headphone jacks, and moving towards the iPhone X gesture-based navigation.

I really do not believe we’ll see a lot of innovation in the category, especially in the next couple of years. I think the hardware is just SO ahead of the software at this point, I really don’t know how else they can make it better aside from obvious speed upgrades with new A-chips and RAM upgrades. I will say- I absolutely love the gesture based navigation on a device this size. I’ve always loved swipe up to go home but it’s even more satisfying on a large device like this. I can’t imagine getting a previous gen iPad for this reason alone.

The one thing that would be significant would be OLED, but I think we’re probably a bit away from seeing that in a mass-produced product like the iPad. It also wouldn’t be game-changing as the LCD displays are best in class already.

I can see Apple getting rather creative with form-factors, with the updated iPad Mini coming shortly and maybe even another size in between. Apple could do an iPad Mini/iPad Mini Pro and get a little creative with screen sizes/aspect ratios. They’ve already adopted new aspect ratios with the 11-inch iPad Pro so it’s not out of the question.

Originally I said to myself OLED, but that has too many draw backs and I don’t wanna get a Gen 1 iPad Pro OLED Display.
I’d have to say. The ability to use My iPad Pro 11” Display as just that as a simple Display. With no iOS. Let me hookup my Nintendo Switch via USB-C or even as a second Display for my MBP.
It would just be an Optional one time Reboot option that would automatically reset itself back to iPad mode after a restart.

Split keyboard and headphone jack . Really no excuse for no headphone jack. Apples desktop computers come with 3.5 jack.

And where is the notch, to make the bezels even smaller? /s

A 15" model.

And yes I know, there probably aren't enough people like me to make it worth it for Apple, but that would do it.
