i get the complete opposite, everything on my iPhone 6+ or iPad mini 2 gets hand off to my Macbook air no problem... Nothing from my Macbook air appears on my idevices... Why is that? if it works one way it should work the other way too but apparently not

Try install in you iphone or ipad a free app:
Instashare

I think the MBA doesn´t detect well the gadgets, but with this app on my iphone, magic!
And now everything works

I hope ios 8.1 fix the problem in the BT of iPhone6

Hi,
I have a macmini mid 2011 and there is no handoff toggle in the general options.
The BT is 0X6.
can i do anything to fix this???

First a massive thanks

- If you open a web page on your Mac with Safari the lock screen of your iDevice should show an icon opposite the camera icon. Swipe up to open it.

Also if you are already in the iPhone, just double-click the home and go to the APP all the way on the left. It'll show the hand-off APP in light grey.

One thing to keep in mind, Hand-Off actually implies transfer from A-to-B so don't expect to be able to update simultaneously on both devices.

cheers

This is a large chunk of ******** on apple's part and I even take slight offense to this. There's no reason that handoff doesn't work. It was working fine on my iPhone 6 and late 2011 macbook pro with Beta 5. It seems to me Apple deliberately blacklisted certain cards that hey knew were comparable in order to get people to buy a new mac if they want full functionality.

I'm sorry but that's ********e. I think we've all dropped a good amount of money on Apple products. Doing this, IMO, is a slap in the face to users. Apple should seriously reconsider this and put machines that are in the grey area of compatibility back in. Considering the piss poor performance of my 6 in the blue tooth department, the terrible battery life in all but beta 5, and now this, I'll most likely not be returning to Apple for a new computer int he future and will transition my family to another brand.

To be clear, its not that I needed hand off, its that late 2011 MBP's were intentionally black listed in beta 6 and the general release on purpose. If it had been clear that it would never work, and had never worked, I wouldn't be taking issue. The fact that it worked (and worked well) in the beta up to beat 6 and now is completely gone in the general release makes it pretty apparent, to me at least, that this is an attempt to get people to upgrade machines that are in perfect working order and that as a long time customer of Apple is an insult.

Apple decided to blacklist your machine in the last beta even though it was working fine. So if you'd like to see how handoff works you have two options;

1 - Get a new MBP

2 - Get enough people to call apple to get some attention that the lack of handoff in your machine, and all MPB's from mid to late 2011, is not a hardware issue but a deliberate attempt by Apple to get you to replace your machine. I don't know about you, but I don't have $3000 to spend every two years on a new machine. I moved away from Windows based machines so I wouldn't have to replace my computer every two years.

Ok guys not sure if this has been mentioned before but thought I would post it in case it helps anyone out because I finally got audio calls and SMS text messages working on my older 2011 iMac that does not support handoff.

Although my mac does not support handoff, it still supports both SMS and audio calls whilst connected to the same WiFi network.

1. Go to preferences on facetime on your mac and sign out of iCloud and sign back in. The initial setup will run and ask if you would like to be reached at your mobile number. Audio calls should now work from iPhone to mac.

2. Go to preferences of Messages on your mac and do the same. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and ensure that you can see your mac in the list and it is switched ON. By default, mine was switched off which is why it wasnt working. Upon switching it on, the messages app on your mac will bounce and show a code which you enter on your iPhone to pair the devices.

I've not heard of pairing before as its supposed to do it all seamlessly, maybe its just because its an older mac that does not have bluetooth pairing to the device and therefore needs to authorise it?

No idea. I know some of this has been mentioned before but after reading through this thread I could still not work out why I couldn't get it working and I fixed it through trial and error. Hope somebody finds it useful!

Late 2012 iMac
iPhone 6+

Tried signing out of everything, resetting Wifi, forgetting network and reestablishing everything. Handoff nor continuity works for me.

Apple has really been releasing lots of unfinished stuff this year and its a huge turn off.

have exactly the same devices and issues :(

I have a mid-2013 MBA and iPhone 6+.

I have handoff enabled on both, bluetooth on both, and I cannot get handoff to work nor send a photo from my MBA to my iPhone via bluetooth file sharing. I tried pairing them but every time I attempt to send a photo from iPhoto to my phone it says "The device does not have the necessary services".

Grrrrr. I have all apple products so I can have them all work together and it's so frustrating.

No idea here. Worked first day I had Yosemite. Updated to iOS 8.1 and now nothing works.

Wifi on Mac used to find my iPhone 6 just fine for Hotspot. And phone calls and SMS forwarding used to work. But now no longer. Is there a debug log anywhere for this? It's ridiculous there's no explicit way to get this to work for end users.

----------

If you want to debug this, open Console (use Spotlight) and then run Terminal.

In Terminal run 'killall sharingd'. The system will automatically restart sharingd. Watch Console.app under system.log.

You should see messages like:

Code:
Oct 27 18:53:52 tatshmbp sharingd[95783]: 18:53:52.259 : Received a new Handoff advertisement from "Tatshphone"
Oct 27 18:54:00 tatshmbp sharingd[95783]: 18:54:00.451 : Received a new Handoff advertisement from "Tatshphone"

And yes, Handoff started working for me at least for Safari right after this.

----------

Also, go to FaceTime and Message settings once your phone looks like it's finally sending stuff for Safari. That happens without extra authorisation. For SMS and phone calls you have to authorise your devices. This is a (good) change from iOS 8.0.x where everything 'just worked' as long as it was on your Apple ID.

Handoff / Continuity Problems - Solution

Guys, i discovered a very tricky solution (actual i was amazed of it) to solve most of the continuity/ handoff problems. I had an issue with phone routing / continuity with my Iphone 6 and MBP 2013, and simply i discovered that the TIME clock settings with not in sync with Apple servers , thus the time on my Iphone was different from my MBP, once i made with both of them sync with Apple time servers and they both had the same time settings , EVERYTHING WORKED SUPERB !!!!!!!!!!! :):):):):):):)
