To anyone still having issues I would recommend:

- Sign off everywhere (FaceTime, App Store, iCloud, etc)

- Sign back in and make sure the email is the same everywhere (if you sign in using @gmail on one place and using @icloud on another won't work, even if it's connected to the same account, this is what brought me problems earlier).

- Restart devices with everything set up properly

Keep in mind pairing the devices via Bluetooth is not necessary, just make sure Bluetooth and WiFi are turned on on both devices, and connected to the same network.

Not of it work for me. It doesn't work over Wi-Fi and doesn't want to pair over Bluetooth which is extremely frustrating at this point.

I am running 8.1 beta 2 and a 2014 MBP....when I try to toggle "iPhone Cellular Calls" on in Facetime settings on my iPhone 6 it says it cant...says FT and iCloud must be signed into same Apple ID to use iPhone Cellular calls...I have signed out and back into everything. What else do I need to try?

Since this thread is really long I am not going to read through all of it. I have however scanned through and noticed the tutorial for getting handoff to work with 2011 Mac Minis and MacBooks. Anyone know if this works for the 2011 iMac? Also surely Apple would want as many people as possible to have the latest features, do BT 4 adapters work in the final version of Yosemite?

tearing hair

tried everything in the above posts.

now at a point where, i get the bobbing icon, but only partial functionality.

- phone calling from MBP works
- safari works both directions, loads last page
- pages - very intermittent
- mail - kind of works. occasional glitch
- messages: once i click on the bobbing icon in the dock, the messages app opens, and goes to the correct conversation, but none of the text iv type on the phone appears. so thats not really picking up where i left off.

considering the premium we pay, i expect it to just work. which it plainly doesn't.

really quite frustrating..

Succcccesssssssss

ok, i read thought all of this,

only thing that has worked,

i signerd out of app store on both devices ( phone an mac) , imessage, icloud, all on both devices.

i THEN ..... UN PAIRED the computer an mac from each other in bluetooth on mac, and bluetooth on phone, ( cos their was a history from seeing each other in the past )! .....

i then FORGOT THE NETWORK, (obviously cos it has to use same network to work) ....done this on BOTH devices,

so basically a complete start from scratch , unpaired devices from each-other, an forget internet networks on both devices.

shutdown BOTH devices....

booted back up both devices.... signed into each one, one at a time..... and alas no joy !! ..... BUT ..... i then restarted both devices again.... tried it, an worked !!!

AT ..... LAST

Phone yes, SMS no

Mid-2010 MBP on 10.10, iPhone6 on 8.0.2

All accounts logged on using @icloud.com id.

Can place and receive calls via FaceTime without issue.

SMS is a no go.

have read that theirs some confusion on the bluetooth needing to be on or off, .... process of elimination has proved that it does need to be on, on both devices.....

i simply turned it off on the iPhone an no pop-up .... turned it back on ... and the pop up appeared...

Thats what I THOUGHT but kept hearing people saying how everything was working for them. Grrrr.

I haven't seen anyone say that SMS was working for them without running the 8.1 beta. Since Apple has clearly said it needs 8.1 I guess we'll have to wait for Monday. :(

Now for my problems. :p

What is the best reset technique? I'm running a iOS 8.0.2 and the release build of Yosemite. I had I had everything but SMS working just fine about a month ago on the Yosemite beta. Right now I can't get anything to go across I've tried signing out of iCloud and FaceTime, turning off and on Handoff, signing back in and restarting both devices. Still nothing. Any tips? Is there a more comprehensive reset that has worked for other people?

yeah i was in the same boat -

but then realised theirs 2 things I'm not resetting! the 2 things required for them to talk to each other ! bluetooth & wifi ....

so i 'forgot network' for the wifi in my iPhone

'forget this device' in bluetooth on iPhone

unpaired phone in mac, bluetooth settings

and disconnect and forgot wifi network on mac ( if you use wifi connection to connect ) ...

i then shutdown both devices, turned both back simultaneously. signed back into everything, paired devices again, found wifi network and re-conected it again.

shut down both devices, booted and it was a success

Does the calling work just via wifi? I have a mid 2011 iMac and although iMessage has always worked flawlessly from my iPhone (now iPhone 6) I cannot get the calling feature to work. Unless this is another feature unsupported by older macs?

Tried rebooting and re-pairing.

I'm aware that handoff will not work due to my mac specs and also sms wont work until monday with iOS 8.1.

I searched the Internet for hours trying to figure out how to get Hand off and Continuity and phone calls to work. I thought I'd put all that stuff in one place and hopefully save someone the trouble of trying to collect this information themselves.

Initial Steps:

-On your Mac go to About this Mac > System Report. Under the Bluetooth Category your LMP version needs to be 0x6.. Anything lower And the hand off feature will not work. I have heard phone call do however.

-On Your Mac: Go to system preferences > General > and click the "allow handoff" box at the bottom.

-On your iDevice Go to settings > general > and enable hand off.

-On your Mac open FaceTime and go to preferences. Check the "allow iPhone calls" box.

Next few steps:

- Make sure Bluetooth and Wifi are turned on for both devices.
- Make sure you are logged in to the same iCloud account on both devices.
- Make sure that your FaceTime is also logged in to the same account (this is needed for the phone calls feature to work).
- Make sure you are on the same Wifi network. Especially if you have a dual band Router. Both devices need to be on the same band to work. Don't connect to 2.4ghz on on device and 5ghz on the other.

How to verify Hand off actually works or not:

- If you open a web page in Safari on your iDevice you should get a bouncing icon on your Mac computer dock that shows up on the left end of the dock (it will kind of look out of place).

- If you open a web page on your Mac with Safari the lock screen of your iDevice should show an icon opposite the camera icon. Swipe up to open it.

Making phone calls

Open the contacts app on your Mac IF you click the phone icon it should say calling using iPhone.

Hope this helps.

P.S. you do NOT need to pair your devices.

Forgot to add if Safari is in private mode it doesn't hand off.

Great post, I picked up my 5s was on 2.4GHz and my Mac was on 5GHz (now sorted) - but still not working, I can do phone calls but not hand off. Does this feature work with a Gmail hosted email or only iCloud emails?

thanks and i recommend this too. at first only phone calls would work on my macbook. once i signed out of iCloud, then back in, rebooted the iPhone, safari and mail works.

one thing i noticed is that i have to keep the iPhone on before i can hand off apps to my macbook. if i sleep it, the icon disappears on OS X dock. normal?

Open a web page on your Mac
On your iPhone lockscreen you should see a safari icon opposite the camera.

Open a web page on your iPhone
On your Mac you should see a new safari icon pop up on the left end of the dock.

these are indicators that hand off is working.

I should have came here first before getting a major headache why my Bluetooth would pair with my iPhone 6+ for 1/2 second then show "Not Connected."

Simply put, my BT is "old" and Handoff is not supported stated by my LMP. That's deflating!

I haven't looked yet...I need a break from the computer right now - but c'mon there has to be a tweak around this?!?!

----------

I don't even have this option available in my General System Settings.
"Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud settings."

All I can say is I hope 10.10.1 can support older bluetooths..unless 4.0 BT dongles work?

oh well.

Have done all these steps but it's not working. Handoff just doesn't work, and trying to make calls via the MacBook leads to 'The iPhone was not found, is it on the same network?' (or words to that effect) despite the fact they are both on the same network...

I'm able to handoff from iPhone to Yosemite, but not from Yosemite to iPhone. I've double and tripled checked all settings after reading everything here and still nothing. Again, if I open Safari, Pages, Mail, etc...on my iPhone it will hand off to my MacBook Air 2013, but if I open Safari, Pages, Mail on my Mac, nothing shows up in the lock screen on my iPhone 6 running 8.02. I can also make cellular calls from my Mac using handoff.

Any ideas how to get it to work on my iPhone?

Thanks

When I start an email on my iPhone 6, it immediately shows up in the dock of my iMac. However, if I click the link on my iMac, I get the "loading" message with a constant spinning circle. End up needing to quit mail and relaunch it.
