So my handoff has only been working mac --> iPhone but not iPhone ---> mac. Someone said signing in and out of iCloud fixes it.

Tried so on my mac and didn't seem to make any difference. Anyone else have any suggestions by any chance? Thanks!

Hopefully this can be one place to get all the facts strait.
Goodluck!

Hi, can I ask a quick question please, and forgive my ignorance I have no idea what it means, only that i see it.

In the Airportbrcm4360 file that we tweak, I also see this line in there.

AirPort_Brcm43xx::powerChangeCallback: messageType[0x%08x]
APTAPDMacBookPro6,2MacBookPro6,1TruePowerOffMacBookAir4,1MacBookAir4,2acpideviceIOACPIPlatformDeviceIOPlatformPluginAirPort_Brcm43xx::callPlatformFunction: Failed to find platform plugin (plugin = %p, resources = %p)

Should we change this like we did in the other file?
Or does it have no bearing on anything?

Cheers

@UncleSchnitty Please add step 35: Repair permissions one last time.

This was necessary in order to get AirDrop working properly (now I can finally receive files from iOS, not just send them)

Hey, it shows at the top that it is connected to my iPad via the bluetooth symbol in menu bar. And like I like I said, I am able to handoff from Macbook Air to either my iPad or iPhone, but can't from my iOS to the Macbook. Just strange.

I think that you have paired your Mac with your iOS device via Bluetooth!

The Troubleshooting from the tutorial says:

Troubleshooting:

5:Make sure you aren't pairing your devices under bluetooth.

Does anyone know on steps 13-17, do I change all the Mac- to my numbers or just the first and last one as stated in the instructions? The first time I did this, I only changed the first and last....this could be the problem why after I restart, it doesn't allow handoff iOS to MacBookAir

Hi, I didn't pair. Maybe I did a long time ago, but when I open devices preferences, it is not there for me to remove.

Resolved Input/Output problem and advice for others

Hi all. I posted earlier that I had problems with step 16: It wouldn't let me save the modified kext file and gave an Input/Output error.

A redo of the procedure worked and the only difference in my adherence may have been doing it all from a fresh boot, and NOT monkeying around with ANYthing after repairing the disk permissions. It seems these can get un-repaired in a hurry and it's not like circumcision, which remains done forever.

The end result it total success and I must say this is a very worthwhile tweak. Would otherwise make the 2011 MBA needlessly obsolete.

Best,

What's not working? For example, I started by testing Maps and that worked both ways perfectly, and so I went on and tried other apps and they also worked, until I got to Safari, which would only give me Mac to iPad. Then I saw a post saying they had to turn off private browsing. I checked and sure enough, private browsing was enabled on the iPad. Turned it off and instantly the Handoff app icon appeared on my 2011 MBA. I looked over the current list of supported applications and continued testing. Everything worked fine until I got to Notes. Again it was working Mac to iPad only, but once I continued from the iPad locked screen by flipping up on the icon, the iPad then handed off to the Mac and it too now works both ways without issue.

This is the initial release of Yosemite. Expect issues to still exist. I don't honestly believe that Apple utilized much or any of the public Beta feedback to improve the product before release. That was used as a marketing tool to create more buzz.

Solution works well for Mid-2011 MBA! Thanks!

My Mid-2011 MBA is now working with Handoff! Marvelous!

I can now start an email on my iPhone 5s and transfer editing to my MBA with one click -- within three or four seconds. Works well for Numbers, Pages, and Keynote too. Transfers both to and from iOS.

There are a lot of steps in the kext modification process and it requires care -- and a small dab of courage.

Printing the instructions and making a copy as a PDF was helpful. I used copy-paste for all the Terminal commands from the PDF.

I found 0xED also has an "overtype" mode from its menus which seemed a better fit here than delete and insert. Move the cursor to the RHS of the edit screen and overtype the hex digits.

So patience and common sense fixed most of your problems?!? Crazy. I also believe that a lot of these smaller issues will clear up once we get an update or 2. I also agree with what you said about the public beta, I think DPs were listened to but public beta reports were probably added to trash.

Hi UncleSchnitty, do you know if for Steps 13-17 when I am changing the Mac- characters to reflect my mac's digits if I am doing if for all the Mac- I see until the last one? Or am I doing it just for the first Mac- and the last Mac-?
Thanks any help appreciated.

MacBook Air Mid 2011 Contrib

If anyone is struggling with patching the MBA Mid 2011 kexts, I have provided them pre-patched for board no Mac-742912EFDBEE19B3.

Just enable kext dev mode, install with KextDrop, reload kexts, and reboot.

details are available in my post - https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1807033/

Just the first and last, so if yours was Mac-XXXXXXXX it would look like:

When I tried to open up the kext files I received this message, I replaced the originals and started over and it still gave me the same message.

Let us know how it goes.

So, I redid everything from scratch. Followed all the directions. Everything works beautifully between my devices until I restart the computer. After such, Macbook does not get the icon for handoff from the iOS. I can, however, handoff from my macbook to iOS. This is very frustrating.

It is almost as if once I restart my computer, the Mac forgets how to receive stuff from iOS. This is even true for Airdrop. I can airdrop from the mac to the iPhone. But not iPhone to mac once I restart. ARGH!!!!!!!! Think my firewall or vault has anything to do with it???

In order to open kext files you need to Right click- show package contents.
So the break down is:
Right click IO80211Family.kext and "show package contents" /Contents/Plugins/ Right click AirPortBrcm4360.kext and "show package contents" /Contents/MacOS Right Click on AirPortBrcm4360, and choose OPEN WITH: OTHER: 0XED

I use firewall and it does not effect my handoff. I do not use file vault so that may have something to do with it but my gut tells me probably not. To me it sounds like something with permissions, you may have something else running that causes a permissions issue on restart. With the variable of other programs and other things being run on others computers its hard for me to narrow it down.

My suggestion at this point is repair permissions, do a restart then hit repair permissions 1 more time (don't do anything else in-between) if all your permissions are messed up after the restart then my guess would be something is effecting them.

Same problem. I guess it just not meant for me to pass things to my macbook, which is more important to me than passing from my macbook to iOS. Is there a way for me to identify what permissions I have running so I can identify a potential conflict??
