Seriously, for people that do not need a laptop, the Mac mini is an insane value.
It is so good that even people who need a laptop will consider that maybe just having a mini on the home office desk full time and not having to plug in the laptop when you get home is enough of a time save to just get it as a second computer. Buy for $600, save plugging laptop in every day for the next five years, sell mini in five years and get back some money. Yeah that can be a win. I could see some folks deciding that is worth it.

How many M2's are we going to get?

M2, M2 PRO, M2 MAX, M2 ULTRA, M2 HYPER!!!

Because no one is buying PCIE lanes for $3k+, unless you're an Inc. who can tax-depreciate a $7k machine under 26 U.S. Code Sec. 179.
Apple wouldn't build a computer for "no one." There most assuredly are buyers. Else, Apple should have the wisdom to issue a simple announcement that Mac Pro is discontinued and that the Studio is now the Mac pinnacle of power.

My guess is Apple has corporate contract orders in big enough numbers to motivate them to launch it. Else, there was a much easier, much (corporate) cheaper PR option to kill it... and proclaim Studio Ultra "our new Pro."

I think they would, because the cost of the PR disaster of not putting Apple Silicon into their highest-end product would be even higher than making a machine that hardly sells.

Which indeed is why I think they half-assed the new Pro - get something out the door to finally complete the transition and then let it die.

Although the Mini and Studio are so good I'm not all that fussed by the Pro being a bit silly.

Poor iMac though! Still stuck on base M1. There was once a time the iMac was Apple's flagship product!

if you file a Sched C, you can use section 179 which includes sole proprietor , LLC's and Inc. Its really aimed at small businesses to make their life simple and encourage keeping your business equipment up to date. that said, money spent is money spent, its no longer in your hands.

the tests is borked though - the M1 tests of 1850 read is why the machine tested low at 1/2 speed. either another app was busy accessing the SSD, they spilled into VM or something ir wrong with the SSD. my machine tests equal for R/W. that should be been a big alert something wasn't right.

Still don't understand why they didn't save the Ultra for the Mac Pro, because the Studio is a great deal compared to the new MP.

Because it seems like they don’t actually want you to buy the Mac Pro because they are trying to phase that form factor out of existence.

Yeah that’s why I’m on the fence, but if the whine is gone, I’ll upgrade just for that. It’s so awful and annoying and I had to exchange my current one 5 times before giving up and just dealing with it.

I don’t understand why none of the reviewers seem to be addressing the issue directly. Haven’t watched the video yet but I see no mention of it in the text and people still clearly have questions about it.

Its almost a given that the M3 will offer ray tracing. That, along with the added performance from the switch to 3NM should make Nvidia and Intel really start worry.
I love my current M1 Mac Studio, but I plan to wait until next year to upgrade to an Ultra.
Worry, Intel = yes; Worry, Nvidia, not a chance, take a look at their datacenter products.

That's actually exactly what I do. Instead of bringing my laptop back and forth, I just use the Mac mini at work and leave the laptop at home.

Hrmm, unspecified Display Port and HDMI port...

Mac Studio - Technical Specifications - Apple

...why no specific information for such a high-priced device?!

I guess it goes without saying that no tests could be performed using 8K HDR footage seeing how Apple has yet to provide this device with an 8K 60P XDR monitor. Oofah.

Cart before the horse? Kindly get it in gear, Tim.

You are no longer allowed to specify the version number of HDMI. It’s all HDMI now and you just go by the features it has. I wonder if the same ruling happened with DisplayPort.

If they wanted to phase it out of existence, it wouldn't be priced as "low" as they have. Why not $99,999 or $999,999?

To those accustomed to regularly buying new Mac Pros, "only" $6999 for Apple's "latest & greatest tech" probably looks like some kind of bargain... even more so that those accustomed to buying a "maxed out" PRO because they need every bit of Mac power + slots.

Compare maxed-out (new) Mac Pro to maxed-out former Mac Pro and imagine being a buyer who doesn't live on a forum like this. I would guess some might even guess price "typo" and it was really meant to be $69,999. Buyer: "Order now and- if it goes through- order many more units before Apple catches on."

Why not? TSMC is already testing the 2nm process. It will go all the way down to 1nm eventually as well.

And the inevitable switch to Angstroms(?) will allow them to split a single hair into upwards of a hundred or thousand new hairs. Marketing will always find a way... and this one is actually easy (without having to break the laws of physics).

Else, Marketing will just shift the superior tech focus to some other measure (that Apple easily wins). Spin whatever it is enough times and the biggest fans will start chanting the same to then entice the rest to believe it is something very important too. Then we're on that until it can bump into some wall of physics or similar. On to the next "very important" measure.
