Has Android overtaken iOS?

I hate to say it even though I am the biggest apple fan boy in the world...but I have been looking at android lollipop and I feel it looks so much better than ios 8! Making me have massive buyers remorse £700 phone but the os may be crippling it!!

I recently switched from android to iPhone. Don't believe all the hype. The problem with android is consistency. There is none. Every handset maker customizes the GUI to suit their needs. It's supposed to get better with 5 but only very few recent phones will run it.

The way I see it apple has an advantage over the other platforms, android and windows. Apple controls the updates bypassing the carrier. Not the case for windows or android for the most part. So you end up at the mercy of the carrier or the handset maker not the OS maker.

Then there is the inconsistencies in the UI, the browser and in other built in apps, which is terrible.

It all leads to a poor user experience, IMHO.

That's true for Samsung etc but the nexus line seems like it gets updates super fast...

Not impressed... That video is not enough to make me think wow I want android. I didn't see handoff in the video maybe the next version of android with chrome.

UI wise it's not even close for me, iOS 7/8 is way better. The only thing I prefer about android options is less expensive for better specs (in some cases, like RAM and resolution)

iPhone/iOS is the better experience.

Android is much more open, because all the customisation every user can do for himself. On the iOS you can`t you have to use it as they think it should work. Well... they are wrong.
The biggest problem on android is that every manufacturer puts load of bloatware on and that`s what makes the phone slow, and frustrating to use.
But if you go for the Nexus phone you pretty much get how the android should work. Pure speed, functionality an beauty.
I personally use both platforms, and because of the freedom on android I would say it`s better, but just by the fraction.

Yeah. That is the only way to pure android, really. That's why said only a few recent handset I was really referring to the Nexus devices.

But most people don't buy those...

But most people buy one phone, and not every handset makers phone. That's expensive!

It's hard to "discuss" since that video didn't really show any killer features that would differentiate the platform. Unless you're looking for poop pills...

I think it's just down to personal preference which one looks better. My opinion, and it may be due to the video makers' fast paced interactions, is that it felt a bit like a confusing jumble of transitions.

The way I see it, Apple releases functionality to iOS when it integrates seamlessly with the rest of the OS, and it works in a way that is consistent with other features.

The Android OS is, for me, in a few words: busy, crowded and not very intuitive.

I think android is interesting and I use it every so often but the experience is not as good in both hardware and software. In my opinion, IOS does a great job with both. I have had at some point all the main android phones to come out this year and I always felt like I had to spend a lot of time getting them to function how I wanted.

People like to go crazy over the specs but if you look at every major android phone to come out this year, they all have major issues, including Nexus phones.

Nexus 5 ( I know this is from last year) - terrible battery life and camera

Samsung Galaxy S5 - touchwiz is not very good and causes lagginess and the cover over the charging port easily breaks. I'm also not a fan of the over saturated screen. I prefer realistic.

HTC One M8 - terrible camera, I'm one of the few who actually don't like the way it looks and feels

LG G3 - weak battery life, terrible LG skin, and screen looks really bad when things are not optimized for it which is pretty much everything

Moto X 2014 - terrible battery life and camera

I could go on but you get the point. And on top of this, only the nexus and moto x will get updates quickly, if at all. And don't get me started on how much better looking and how much better apps work on ios.

This is my own experience and opinion.

That's just, like, your opinion, man.

Seriously, stop trying to tell me that the way I work with my phone is the wrong way. When you start paying for my phone and my phone bill, then you can start trying to dictate which phone I get to use. Until then, you use your phone and I'll use mine.

The new TouchWiz interface on the note 4 has all of the features of Google L and more...Samsung even uses the same multitasking window screens.....and the white backgrounds etc.....nice to know...the transition to Google L for the note 4 should be easy...only difference Google L is a simpler interface than TouchWiz as usual

It's not about the features... more features doesn't mean better. Just look at touchwiz. Lollipop is all about the design and making everything consistent. Unfortunately this will only happen on the Nexus' as OEMs will ruin it as usual.

Maybe but I have no problem with TouchWiz. ..at least this new simpler version on my note 4....even reviews are stating it's the best and simplest TouchWiz ever...of course native Google L will be more consistent and fluid on the latest devices than TouchWiz. Samsung would have to remove a lot of its key features to do that. More features does increase my productivity especially when they actually work well like on the note 4.

Is blue overtaking red? That's the equivalent things of this nature come down to. Some will like blue for whatever reason and some will like red for whatever reason, but one isn't better or worse than the other, nor is liking one or the other is right or wrong.

Feels like they just re-skinned the OS like HTC does and Samsung does... Not such a big deal.

iOS 7 & iOS 8 was pretty much the same except they introduced a bunch of swipe gestures (back gesture, control center, dealing with notifications) and hardware to compliment (Touch ID, Curved glass display on iPhone 6).

The Android UI seems to be a confusing mess. Though they say it's highly customizable, I've never seen anything that's been less than a cluster. iOS UI all the way.

Sense on the HTC One M8 is actually very stunning and simple to use.

Seems to take the best bits from them all and put it together nicely.
