I use my Ipad for streaming live sporting events. Since it is on the tripod mostly, I want the largest screen size to see things as possible, so I love the 13 inch. Plus with m 2 TB drive, never have to worry about running our of space for the 4K video. Now, I use a 10 inch Ipad as my score controller which sits on my lap. So, I just have all the tools needed to have the best one fit for the job.

If you use your iPad more than you carry it, get the 13". If you carry it more than you use it, get the 11"!

Just my pithy rule of thumb. :)
That’s close to what I think but I would change it to: if you use your iPad AS A TABLET (including handholding it to read or handwrite) then go with the 11”. If you use it more as a stationary device—to type on or watch video/sports on, i.e. if your uses are likely to benefit from a stand or a keyboard—then go with the larger screen.

Just picked up an 11” today, its just about one handable if I wanna move around and or travel And on a desk with more space display setting you can see as much web content on pages as a 13” (compared in store)

Also I liked the price staying below $2000 for a 1TB with nano texture vs the 13” being over $2000

I have always been an ipad mini person ALWAYS! But this Ipad Pro M4 is the firs time I can not complain about size anymore, Still which apple would release a 9 inch ipad mini. 8.3 is not a bit on the small size to do more than one thing at a time.

After 9 years of 12.9” pros I bought a 11” M4 a month ago.

Love it. Admittedly I wasn’t sure at first, and it took me several days to decide not to exchange it for a 12.9.

Portability is so much better - even with the MK (particularly with the MK). It goes a lot more places with me now. It even fits in my car‘s glovebox, which no 12.9 ever did. In my last car I couldn’t even hide the 12.9 under the passenger seat.

My old 12.9 magic keyboard never left my desk. Too big. I’d sit the iPad on it occasionally, but use the folio case when mobile. It was grossly underutilized. In contrast, the 11” MK stays ON and goes everywhere with me. Love having a real keyboard all the time. A tiny usbc magnetic connector makes frequent disconnects super easy.

I bought an 11” folio case too, but I’ve hardly used it. With the 12.9 that was my go-to case.

I’m an artist, and the iPad Pro has replaced my laptop as my main content creation device. I exhaustively compared the 11” & 12.9” before buying. At first I was leaning towards the 12.9” iPad Pro…for the extra screen space… but what I love about the iPad form factor is that it is a tablet that is meant to be held. Even tho I’m a big guy with big hands, i just found the 12.9” ipad pro was just too cumbersome to hold comfortably for any length of time. So I went with the 11” iPad Pro and I love it. The screen is plenty big enough for me while remaining holdable as a tablet in my opnion was meant to be used… in the hands. Having said that, I also have an iPad mini for when I really want to travel light. It’s the perfect size btwn an iphone and larger ipad when I want to be creative while traveling. Some may ask why i didn’t go with the 12.9” for home use and the ipad mini for traveling… but i would refer them to the above explanation. Wether at home or on the road, I prefer to use the ipad in my hands as a tablet was meant to be used, and I just find the 12.9” not ideal for that. If you plan to only use the iPad on a desk attached to a keyboard perhaps you’ll disagree. But for me the 11” & iPad mini is the perfect combo.

Whats wrong carrying 13 inch somewhere? i consider it as iight device, sometime carrying at peak design bag sometimes at minimalistic tom toc but it was never a issue, few grams and cm more. I had 11 inch, 12,9 and now 13 inch and its much better comparing to 12.9. Ipad is my only devices and for few task as remote desktop etc it was little bit difficult to work with 11 inch. If i have macbook pro i would go 11 inch straight, better for reading, video etc. but for only device i consider 13 inch as better choice.

I agree that the 13 inch M4 iPad Pro is not a heavy device, even in the Magic Keyboard. It's noticeably lighter than the 2018 12.9 inch model it was replacing for me. The problem for me is primarily that, even with the new slim form factor, it still feels unwieldy when using it for reading or hand writing notes for a protracted period, both of which I typically do holding the device in one hand.

So, for me, the issue isn't what it weighs in my backpack or sling bag but how that weight is distributed when trying to hold it in one hand for more than a few minutes. The larger size moves the center of gravity such that the *perceived* weight when holding the device with one hand is greater for the larger device.

Nothing wrong, until you copmpare it with the 11.

Portability is a big thing for. Portable device, while the 13 is pretty portable the 11 is a breeze to bring with you.

I had the 12.9 before, loved the screen size but hated bringing it around or in bed, went with the 11 to replace the 12.9 and was scared it wouldn’t be enought…..boy I was wrong, the 11 is the perfect go to device for me.

Well technically nowadays is my ONLY device, i do everything with it.

Ï have had multiple 11” and 12.9”/13” iPad Pros and switched back and fourth and my conclusion is that the 11” is a weird in between, too large to be a proper portable handheld device and too small to be a laptop replacement. So today I have the 13” as my laptop replacement and an iPad Mini as my portable tablet device, the iPad Mini is a much better size for tablet use like reading.

I mean that's great for you but your preference doesn't apply to everyone. If you can have over two thousand people vote in a poll about this and it's split down the middle it's obviously not a cut and dry decision.

I usually work with affinity, and a lot with the pencil with it, when I am on a desktop I usually just plug an external monitor, while not perfect it does the trick.

Some Office work and some diagrams, I also do some web design HTML + JS + CSS on it as well.
Does not work for everyone, but for me it does wonders.
The 13 would be better but then I'd lose portability and for a creative being able to have the device with you all the time is worth the smaller screen, so 11 is the sweet spot.

It's got a very specific niche in my eyes, which is that it's the smallest possible productivity device. For me that's really useful as I mostly have it around "just in case".

I work the majority of the time on much larger screens and desktops. But I can clear a lot of simple backlog items like emails or remote desktop for some deeper work in an on-call situation, in addition to nicer web surfing and content consumption ... and a larger device means i probably wouldn't even have it with me to begin with.

I’m assuming that “it” refers to the 11” model. Is that correct?

It’s unclear to me from what you posted.

Just bought a 11” M4 on Amazon.it to upgrade my 12.9” 2018. More space (256 gb vs 64 gb) and more portability are the reason (and a good discount price of 999€ instead of 1219€) ✌🏻

I recently upgraded from the 11 inch 2018 pro to the 13 inch m4 pro.

Initailly I was happy with the bigger size but recently found myself thinking I may prefer the 11 inch. I find the 13 inch excels when I’m sat on a desk with the Magic Keyboard but everything else feels a lot more awkward. Using it as a tablet is awkward and using it as a laptop is awkward because of the top heavy nature of it. The thing is, I don’t really use it sat at a desk much, its mostly for kicking back while relaxing on bed/sofa and as a tablet it just feels too much for that. And if I want to dock it to the MKB to watch something because it is top heavy it just keeps falling over.

Im interested in hearing from others that have done this move what their motivations were and are they happy they went to a smaller size?

Gifted my '22 12.9 IPP to my SO yester, and banged the AAPL Store--tonight--with an up-speed, down-sized, selective purchase {edit: "of the 11Pro"}

IPP11_512-aPP.jpg

I really enjoyed the ~13" iP[P], but it's just an absolute behemoth!

Looking forward to easy; tidy; concise; effortless :)

Same here. I hated carrying the 12.9” daily plus it’s a hassle needing to use a separate laptop bag for it (doesn’t fit in my purse).

That said, I enjoy the multi-iPad life:
  • 12.9” M1 for reviewing and annotating PDFs and docked use for checking emails and messages at work. Also, American comics in 2-page landscape view or portrait.
  • 11” M1 for desktop-class browsing (more or less) and media streaming while lounging in bed or couch. Also, American comics in portrait or Japanese manga/Korean manhwa in 2-page landscape view.
  • 8.3” Mini 6 for ebooks and phone alternative while on the go. Also, manga/manhwa and webcomics in portrait mode.

The 11” can replace both 8.3” and 12.9” but it wouldn’t feel as comfortable. I just keep my devices longer now (used to upgrade iPads every year from 2011-2017).

10.5” A10X to 12.9” A12X to 11” M1 to 12.9” M2 to 11” M4… and still on the fence… mainly because I find even the 11” iPad to be a bit too cumbersome to truly enjoy as a tablet. I think the 13” is a massive improvement over the 12.9” but I didn’t want to justify $400 CAD for 2” (plus increased keyboard pricing).

We’ll see which way I jump next time, but I will probably keep the M4 for a few generations since I’m not happy with either size… although I regret not getting the matte version (I was rushed on travel and couldn’t wait).

I did exactly the same! The M4 11” is a beast and it doesn’t heat up like the M1 or M2, when I’m connecting it to a 5k monitor, working word, pdf’s and handwritten notes.
About the matte version I’m still doubting. The glossy version can be protected with a matte screen protector, but they tend to wear out on the corner and edges where the MK touches.

I really admire your setup. The 13” I do miss when reading/ annotating huge A4 PDF’s, but I gave my 12.9 to my SO and she enjoys it thoroughly.

I went from 11" to 14.6" and will never look back. 11" is way too small now, may as well just use my phone.
