Verizon had their shot at the iPhone and dropped the ball. I can't see Apple giving them an easy time on contract negotiations to bring the phone the their network.

I left Verizon, and my perfect coverage, to get the iPhone on AT&T. I had it 10 months before I had to cancel the contract and switch to a different carrier. I decided to switch to Sprint for the far cheaper calling plans and so far it's great! But if the iPhone makes its way to Big Red, I'll probably wait my contact out with Sprint and pick the iPhone up again. It's by far one of the greater pieces of technology currently available in our society.

OP, you'll have to ignore the "Verizon will never get the iPhone" banter. There is the exact same amount of information pointing to "the iPhone never going to Verizon" as there is "the iPhone will go to Verizon." None. So, feel free to be as optimistic as you like.

Keep telling yourself that and keep waiting. AT&T won't let go (nor will Apple's high revenue) the agreement anytime soon and will simply out-bid Verizon.

You want more proof of this? Just look at the iPad, it was announced with AT&T. That is further conviction that AT&T and Apple will continue their business for a long time. Not much you can do.

... based on this premise, eventually AT&T will offer wireless service for free.

It'll eventually come to VZW (and other networks). Who knows when, but it will. Anyone using "LTE" as a sign when doesn't know reality either which is:

It would still need to be BACKWARDS compatible to CDMA.

This means even WITH LTE, iPhone would have to be CDMA compatible.

Anyway, it's only a matter of time. It's to Apple's advantage to be on as many different networks as possible. It's already happening in other countries, and it will happen (eventually) in the U.S. as well.

Ask around people that have AT&T in your area and find out how actual coverage is.
Dont buy into the Verizon "Its the Network" hype.
You also have 30 days to test it out at the locations that you frequent and if it dont cut it you can return the phone and cancell the agreement.

I agree but I might add, DO NOT Listen to everyone telling you AT&T is worse then Verizon.

I had Verizon but their phones Suck:eek:

I bought my 3GS from BestBuy and decided to try out AT&T and the iPhone. So far nothing compares to the quality and easy of use as my iPhone, really nothing, (My Opinion Only)and I have had them all, Blackberry's, Motorola, Palm etc, even my son and wife have the HTC Eris Droid which is nice, but holding both side by side, I'll take the iPhone.

Like everyone here states you have 30 Days to try it out, although some areas differ, I would not wait past 24 days to return it only because 3 weeks is a good amount of time, and sometimes if you wait 30 Days you get a surcharge besides the $36.00 activation fees, at least that is how it works at our local BestBuy store.

I was really surprised at the service I have, in fact at times it is better then Verizon, don't let everyone steer you, decide for yourself, just remember you can buy and try knowing if it all doesn't work out, you can return it.

I am hooked:rolleyes:

I actually couldn't wait and jumped ship from Verizon to AT&T. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that AT&T doesn't have native coverage everywhere. I ended up moving to a town where I can't get AT&T and had to drop my service and my iPhone :( .

Ended up back on Verizon and have no choice but to wait it out now. Got a Droid and it's good enough to tide me over, but I'm definitely missing my iPhone.

This whole exclusivity thing on cell phones is really getting old and just needs to stop. If you're going to create a phone, it should be compatible with ALL carriers. That way a user can choose his/her carrier based on their performance in that user's market, not based on what phones they carry. It's keeping potential customers from getting devices they want; not because they don't WANT a carriers service, but because they can't GET a carriers service.

I signed a one year contract extension with Verizon last summer. All rumors pointed to June/July 2010 being when the contract was up, so either way I'm going to get the iPhone this summer, be it AT&T or Verizon, I'm getting one. I've waited long enough.

Nope, I switched from Verizon to AT&T last year for the iphone and I couldn't be happier with my decision :)

Same here. I had no problems with VZW...except for the fact that their phones suck.

As if getting an iPhone wasn't enough of an enticement, I get a discount on my AT&T service through my employer, so I'm paying less for my AT&T family plan (1 iPhone with data plan, 1 non-iPhone without data), than I was for my VZW family plan (2 non-smart phones, no data plan on either).

So it was a win-win for me.

No reason to wait anymore...

If you are on Verizon and like the service you receive you might as well just get a Droid. Apple appears to be committed to AT&T at least for the next couple of years. I am very happy with my Droid and although the iPhone has some advantages the Droid has some as well. You might as well enjoy a great smartphone right now then waiting for something that might never happen.

The only person that is happier then you are about the continued AT&T exclusive agreement is a little green robot. :)

I had waited, but the poor customer service and poor phones I kept getting from the verizon store here caused me to switch to ATT.

Originally I was anti-data plans, but when verizon also forced them upon us I figured I might as well go for the iPhone and spend the few extra bucks for the iPhone data plan. :D

I'm glad I did, phone works everywhere I need and in a few more places than verizon did around my area.

Which is why you don't buy Verizons crap marketing. See, that wasn't that bad was it? :D

Bring your AT&T phone to my house and try to use it. AT&T is not a perfect solution for everyone in the US.
True but then again the majority of Verizon users would be perfectly happy on AT&T.

As far as Apple putting the iPad or iPhone on another carrier, there might not be any conclusive evidence available one way or the other yet.

If ATT's exclusivity contract in the USA covers all devices, it's possible that Apple isn't allowed to talk about opening up to another carrier until that contract is over.

And Palm and Microsoft and RIM.

And with the new iPad's low pricing, I bet it got renewed, AT&T isn't going to let go those prices without something.

I'm stuck with Verizon because the hosptial where I work is wired for it and I need the phone on a regular basis, not to mention the 22% discount I get.

When I get the iPad, however, it will be with AT&T 3G. I'm fine with that because I only need the 3G in places where I don't have wifi.

Verizon would like the iPhone I would imagine but they have yet to have a single quarter since the iPhone was released where they lost customers. They also have one of the lower churn rates in the industry, so not having the iPhone isn't causing them to bleed customers. Last I heard the Droid sold over 1,000,000 units and that was over a month ago so that's over 1,000,000 customers that had a choice to get the iPhone on AT&T but refused for whatever reason and signed/renewed their contract with Verizon.

That's because Sprint is the carrier who is bleeding subscribers.

Verizon sucks, get over it. Wait until LTE becomes the new standard. Then we don't have to deal with the GSM vs. CDMA debate. Just for good measure, AT&T sucks as well.

An LTE Verizon iPhone would still need a CDMA chip to fall back on tho. When LTE comes out it's not just going to end the whole debate.

yep, ive been waiting here too...

my verizon contract expired, but im holding out til june to see what they do. i am DEFINITELY getting the iphone this yr in june, but if it goes to verizon (which i dont think it will) then i will choose iphone for verizon.

Really? I count around 16 to 17 states that appear to have very spotty coverage. Hopefully they have good roaming agreements and you don't care about 3G data speeds.
