. Also, stop complaining the iPhone is not on AT&T. .

I, for one, will never stop complaining that the iPhone is not on VERIZON. Its my god-given right as an American to log onto a website like this, and complain that I don't have the freedom to buy what I want when I want and use it they way I want. If I can fly to Vegas at 3 in the morning and buy a deep fried twinkie then I'll be damned if some godless, Commie, hippie sonofab**** in the old country can buy whatever phone they want and use it on whatever network they want. We invented the gdamn phone in the first place! If you don't like our complaining, then log off and go play with your precious AT&T iPhone and let us be!!!!!

You make me happy. For one, the corporate America you so love is the one that gives the iPhone on a single carrier, AT&T. Also, its their device and it is their right to offer thru which ever means they like, so.... you have no rights in that sense, only what a company deems you to have. Welcome to Corporate America!

Cingular bought AT&T Wireless with hardly earned those customers that came with it. The Cingular of a few years ago is effectively the same company (SBC and Bellsouth jointly owned it till one merged w/the other).

You also conveniently left out the Cellular One purchase. If anything Verizon is the one who earns customers (pre-alltel). They were constantly gaining on AT&T before each purchase AT&T made.

Cingular (thanks to SBC and Bell South) started out existing due to acquisition of AT&T Wireless (Ma Bell's wireless division), and the acquisition of many Baby Bell wireless divisions. As in, Cingular started out not part of AT&T, but rather from the remains of AT&T thanks to SBC and Bell South.

However, AT&T (Ma Bell) bought out Bell South and Cingular became owned by AT&T (Ma Bell) and SBC. Later SBC bought out Ma Bell and we get the new AT&T, of which has nothing to do with the original AT&T. So, yes all AT&T's customers were not, bought, each of them gained.

Also, Cellular One was another division of SBC which is just now being integrated into AT&T.

Dobson's acquisition is a expansion acquisition. They got Alaska coverage (finally)

Then we all know how SBC (Baby Bell) bought out AT&T (Mac Bell) and renamed itself AT&T. However, this new AT&T has nothing to do with 2004 AT&T or 1994 AT&T.

Hahaha! This response reminds me of the recent conservative debate about how there were no terrorists attacks due to GW Bush's preventative measures. Except you couldn't count 9/11, because that was before the anti-terror measures were taken, and you couldn't count any terrorists attacks if no died. Also, you couldn't count domestic terrorists attacks period, even if someone did die.

They bought the equipment from Alltell merger, they are not gaining any subscribers, so yeah, you got it wrong.

I'd like to see a link for your info on that because the last I checked with Alltel, AT&T and news websites it was still up in the air what the merger would mean. That may have changed in the last week, however I have found the information to-date to be non-specific and slow in coming.

Sometimes slow during the business days? I get same speeds all day every day. Whats wrong? Verizon can't keep up?

Long story short, stick to the carrier that works best. Don't jump into AT&T and start complaining. You have a choice, if you made the bad one, live with it. No one forces you to buy an iPhone. As for your Droid, if you enjoy it, the more power to you. But stop trying to bash out AT&T when you don't even use it.

Wow, you're spoiling for a fight even if it's not there, kind of like AT&T service isn't there for me. So it's not a bad choice I made: Verizon keeps up with AT&T around here just fine -- because oh yeah, AT&T doesn't provide service here. This lack of service causes me to rate AT&T quite low in comparision to verizon/alltel which I think most reasonable parties would understand.

this thread has become utterly useless and has less to with verizon and the iphone than it does with "I think i might possibly know more about technology than you do"

I'm not upset at all. After getting shafted by Verizon, and hearing good stuff about AT&T coverage in my area (and good customer service) I'd never Big Red again.
