Lol :D
Protest about poor coverage and in the meantime keep paying AT&T.
Does that make any sense?
Protest with your wallet, bad service in your area, switch to a different carrier thats all.
Then when AT&T loses subscribers in that area maybe they will do something about it.

completely agree with this which is why i never switched from Verizon. Now all we need is for Apple to get the iPhone onto Verizon and then we're set.

Something which ain't happening. So you can keep waiting. Well be here enjoying our iPhones.

Why wait? If you like your Verizon service or AT&T doesn't work well where you live get a Droid, Droid Eris, or soon to launch Devour or Nexus One. All of these Android phones provide a very similar user experience to the iPhone. I have been very satisfied with my Droid and I think most people who want an iPhone, but need the coverage Verizon offers will be very happy with an Android phone as well.

That is the best solution. Why wait on something that will probably never come or switch to AT&T if it doesn't work well in your area?

Never say never.

we already know you are a AT&T fan boy and an Verizon hater.

Apple choosing not to go with Verizon is completely ignoring 1/3 of the US market.

Maybe they can care less for the US CDMA market.
Jobs/Apple are not easy to forgive and forget.

Because the US CDMA market is a small one right? Doesn't CDMA account for about 1/2 of the entire US market? I don't see how it makes good business sense to just forget about that market. Remember CDMA will still be the backwards compatibility path for years to come. If Apple says no to CDMA then I would say they will be giving up that market for at least another 8+ years. Verizon's 4G devices will still carry voice on 1xRTT and will fall back to EVDO when LTE is not available. This is how it is going to be until they start to run VoIP on LTE which is not going to happen right away.

I continue to object to the notion that a one carrier path = better future growth then a multiple carrier path. That is just my opinion. If anyone has any hard data that can prove the opposite I'd love to hear it. The one carrier model has worked in the past, but continuing down that path will lead to market saturation in the future unless you honestly believe that every single person will be on AT&T over the next few years. Apple and AT&T may love that, but I don't think the consumers would.

I like choice... maybe you would prefer everyone to be forced to go with one company, but I think choice is good for the consumer. Until Apple offers that choice people will just have to choose other handsets if they don't want AT&T.

Well, a lot of interesting technical talk. In the end, though, the iPhone cannot be used in huge areas of the US and by a huge number of potential customers.

This really is an astounding business decision! And nobody seems to really know for sure why they did it. Just amazing.

You want the iPhone, but you don't need it. If you want an iPhone like experience get an iPod Touch or a Android handset. People already know AT&T's service in their area. They can venture in and try it out for 30-days risk free.

If you feel like no, then cancel. Easy as that, no one is telling you go buy an iPhone.

Never say never.

Neither, I just correct idiotic statements against a company that is working to improve. Example, people saying the unlimited plan is capped at 5GB? Where did they get that dumb statement? However, if I say that's fake I get bashed as an AT&T lover. People need to learn their facts and get them straight. Hurts when they correct you, but at least you now know. Thank me later.

US CDMA market is one portion ruled by Verizon, and that is quickly being caught up by AT&T. Remember, AT&T earns their customers, and doesn't buy out someone else to make a larger user base.

Just because it will be backwards compatible doesn't mean Apple has to support it. Remember, Apple are always leaving old tech behind, just like Floppy disks. I have a feeling that after Verizon shot down Apple, El Jobso decided CDMA in the US had ran its coarse.

You still have a choice of Android. You don't have to buy an iPhone. If some company neglects you, there is always another welcoming you. Tip - Go with them. Love it or not, Apple and AT&T will be together for a while, and I also think in the same timeline AppleJuice says, 3-5 years at minimum.

In any case, the one saving grace of this whole mess is that both AT&T and Verizon will soon be using LTE at the same frequencies. So if and when an LTE iPhone is released (probably not the one coming out this June), we should be able to get an unlocked one onto Verizon (assuming that Apple doesn't do it themselves ;)). There is hope!

True that would be an option kinda like it has worked with Tmobile before.
But most likelly you will have to be in an LTE coverage Verizon area to work cause it probably wont be able to fall back to CDMA frequencys if out of range.
Same cat and mouse game. Apple will try to patch and stop jailbraking and unlocking and hackers will keep comming out with new stuff each time.

Not sure where that came from either. Maybe Verizon does it?

I hate the term fanboy, but others are going to continue to label you with statements like this.

Remember, AT&T earns their customers, and doesn't buy out someone else to make a larger user base.

In 1994, AT&T purchased McCaw for $11.5 billion and kick-started their cellular division with 2 million subscribers.

On October 26, 2004, AT&T Wireless was acquired by Cingular Wireless, a joint venture of SBC Communications and BellSouth, to form the largest wireless carrier in the United States at the time.

Don't waste your time. AT&T fanboys don't care about facts. They have to try to score points by lashing out because their love for the iPhone has jailed them at AT&T.

& they are buying a big chunk of alltel off of verizon this year. Or so the rumors go.

I didn't wait for the iphone to come to verizon. I waited to show up on someone's map. When I did, it was verizons (with rumors of at&t coming sometime, somewhen 2010). I went with the droid and I'm enjoying it. I've been getting good speed results except for sometimes during the business days.

I realize we are a smaller market, but it is an interesting business decision that cuts off any part of the market. It does look as though they're trying to pick up that market with at&t's acquisition of parts of alltel, and the new apple stores going into Boise and Spokane. But honestly if I have a choice between a company that has already gotten here, and one that is trying to 'improve' and develop the market here, I'll take the one who is already here. When the contract's up, I'll take a look at conditions then for my new phone/service.

No one does it. When they say unlimited data on your phone, they mean unlimited. The whole 5GB a month cap is for Laptop Connect users. As in a wireless dongle for your laptop. This is true for both AT&T and Verizon.

Back then, AT&T had no wireless to speak of, so buying a company to start isn't a bad thing. AT&T Wireless was acquired, meaning AT&T (Ma Bell) lost its wireless section.

Then we all know how SBC (Baby Bell) bought out AT&T (Mac Bell) and renamed itself AT&T. However, this new AT&T has nothing to do with 2004 AT&T or 1994 AT&T.

I care about facts, you only care about how pretty you can make the world while ignoring facts. I don't jail myself to AT&T. FYI, I have my iPhone unlocked and jailbroken. I use AT&T, but when I travel, I release myself from them.

Worse then that he is just blatantly inaccurate.

See above

They bought the equipment from Alltell merger, they are not gaining any subscribers, so yeah, you got it wrong.

Sometimes slow during the business days? I get same speeds all day every day. Whats wrong? Verizon can't keep up?

Long story short, stick to the carrier that works best. Don't jump into AT&T and start complaining. You have a choice, if you made the bad one, live with it. No one forces you to buy an iPhone. As for your Droid, if you enjoy it, the more power to you. But stop trying to bash out AT&T when you don't even use it.

Jav6454's profile says he's a student in his early twenties. So he's understandably enthusiastic, but cannot yet have the years of corporate experience, technical knowledge, or historical context that the older folk here do.

Early twenties have nothing to do with years of corporate experience here. Technical knowledge? That's something in the works (hence student). Also, who says a profile is 100% exact? In my case it is. No am I am not enthusiastic, I just stop the spread of FUD about AT&T. You however, use every chance you get to dish out a statement on how AT&T sucks and Verizon is better. Even though by your tongue you said you haven't used AT&T or are not. Do a favor and stay in Verizon. Also, stop complaining the iPhone is not on AT&T. There are other phones (Droid) out there that provide iPhone-like experiences.

Cingular bought AT&T Wireless with hardly earned those customers that came with it. The Cingular of a few years ago is effectively the same company (SBC and Bellsouth jointly owned it till one merged w/the other).

You also conveniently left out the Cellular One purchase. If anything Verizon is the one who earns customers (pre-alltel). They were constantly gaining on AT&T before each purchase AT&T made.
