where hip is spoken
Step 1

Find a competitor tablet that is anywhere near the performance of a 2-3 year old iPad, with a screen form factor that doesn't suck - never mind the software suite.

It's harder than you may suspect.
It’s actually easier than you think. An ecosystem consists of hardware, software, and services.
Leaving one (while minimizing the cost to do so) requires a phased approach.
The first to phase out is services since that is typically a monthly cost. Next is software, and finally hardware.
Many people use the excuse of ecosystem lock-in to justify their lack of desire to genuinely move on.

I tried the Surface Pro 2 after my iPad 1 got obsoleted, but it's never as polished as the later iPad Pros, especially with the iPad Pro 2018 came out. While it's nice to be able to use the pen, which I used with OneNote during my Master's Degree to take notes, be able to run the full Office suite, and full Windows applications, it's pretty bad as a tablet since Windows 8, and even 10 is bad for touch since it's not designed for it. Also, the build quality is lacking as the paint chipped off on it compared to my iPad Pro, which is still in good condition and I daily drive it. I take care of my devices. I just eventually went back to the iPad in 2019 and ditched the Surface Pro 2.

The alternatives for tablets outside of Apple kind of suck. Also, Android tablets are vastly inferior to iPads, especially since Google don't seem to care about tablets for a while now. That is why the apps on Android tablets are just blown up smartphone apps. Also, I don't trust Google with privacy and they don't stand behind their products as they kill off products very early on, like Stadia, Google Plus, Google Reader, free legacy Google Suite, etc. I see Apple only having an ecosystem that is workable as they support their products for a long time, despite the limitations.

I also think discontinuing Intel-based Macs was a terrible idea, and will reveal more repercussions in the coming years translatable in shrinking market share, so that it will fall back to where it was in the 90s.
You realize since Apple has been releasing computers with their own silicon, they’ve been increasing Mac shipments, increasing customer satisfaction, increasing the value of Macs, and making better, faster, more efficient, more stable computers than they have in years?
I was kind of sort of with you throughout the first half of your post… But this brought all of that to a screeching halt, because… oof.
Apple’s line of Intel computers kept getting worse and worse and worse and more unreliable and more confusing and more dated and harder to recommend… And they have turned around so fast in the last two years.
And it’s been reflected in sales, where the Mac years ago barely cracked 5 million units per Q, now they’re estimated to ship anywhere from 7 to 10+ million in the last Q.
Also, for the last several quarters, Apple has made more money off of the Mac then they have the iPad.
To say that switching to their own custom silicon will bring them back to the 90s is just straight up ridiculous, one of the most wild statements I’ve read on this forum, and that’s saying something.
As for market share, Apple knows they will never have a high market share in the PC space. That’s just a fact, they know it, we all know it. They also don’t care.
The Mac has been growing while the rest of the PC market is in decline, I think they will be doing just fine.
