Hey, the forgot to print the Apple logo onto this thing...

...or...

there is a new business oportunity with selling small Apple stickers in different colors, which you can paste to the front of these new computers.

I wonder if we will see those colors as option for other computers too? Only Tim Cook knows.

Yeah, it’s hideous. The white bezel is just a design disaster. I hate the chin as well, but I accept it has to be there for the speakers and I/O. Talking of which…

I cannot believe they have removed the USB3 and Ethernet ports on the base model (no TouchID keyboard either). And if that’s not bad enough, they are still selling the 21.5 inch old model for $1099!

I had this awesome intel Mac was a MacPro first gen with the dual Xeon processors. I loved the case, and to be honest I loved how it worked until one sad day it died. Then it sat for years where it was until it was time to take it to the ewaste recycling place. As I lugged it (forgetting how heavy they were) I couldn't help but remember how much I loved that case. Even when I placed it in the trunk I was wondering if I got a cushion could I make it a seat?

Apple made very nice looking cases from 1996 on to today. I did reconsider buying a new Mac when I built this PC I'm typing on now. Why can't Apple have great cases, and be able to play the awesome games that todays PC's can that cost half as much as a mac? IDK Apple needs to do some work to get my money again.

Please tell me that chin is sporting a really baller soundbar or something?

Umm, no :). I expect it is largely still there to put the CPU behind and manage the heat from it. Another 'too thin' design that means anywhere else and the heat would affect the display.

The 24" is likely heavily based on the M1 Air, there's very little in the way of internals. Looks like the future of the Mac really is the iPad 😆 given the new iMac's design language. Sandwich two IPP's together and I reckon that will pretty much be what the upcoming next Gen MBP will look like 😵 Personally I don't care for the white/grey bezel, better off being black or colour matched to the chassis. The chin would have been better to just have the display with a small bezel, and touch thicker to accommodate the Logic Board, cooling etc. equally has been a mainstay of the iMac's design language for eons.

I certainly don't like that Apple has gimped the base mode with just 2 USB 4 ports, not even Touch ID and again forces RAM upgrades across all models. IMO the top tier 24" should come with 16GB RAM by default, equally Apple have always been "Cheap" with storage & RAM so what's new...

I like the iMac. I especially like the screen, which isn’t another 4K screen where you have to scale the UI to make it usable.

why is apple the only company that understands to build monitors with the correct resolution.

I agree with this statement. Apple has best screens. Period.

But I don't like the iMac. It looks like a toy to me. Port selection is also rather poor.
Somehow I doubt I will ever move to Apple Silicon. I simply dislike the path Apple is going with their devices. Everything looks like an appliance. Sooner or later, it will act like an appliance.

I love the way it looks, I have to admit, I was sucked into Apple's RDF yesterday and I was sourly tempted for this computer. A number of things did stop me in my tracks.
  • My wife would kill me (especially after spending money on a new desktop build) :p
  • I'm rocking a 34" ultra-wide that nearly takes up my entire desk.
  • Programs that I need and want to run are windows based. While there's some options to running windows, I'm better off with a PC running windows natively, i.e., use the best tool for the job
  • Apple's closed garden, I have less freedom with Apple's increasingly closed walled garden.
  • Windows vs. macOS - I do prefer how windows works and integrates into networks, I find the file explorer and other aspects of Windows to be better suited to my preferences.
That's not to say that this machine or even macOS doesn't have some appeal, but I think putting any money towards an apple product ought to go towards a new iPad as that's what I need now, where is this is not a need but somewhat of a want/temptation

I won’t buy one either when I can get a MacBook Air with pretty much the same performance. I’ll connect my screen to it and can take it with me. Perfection.

I’m on the fence to replace my Ryzen with it. Capture One released a beta that runs natively on Arm and that’s more or less everything I do with it.

I have to admit that the large blank chin and pretty big white bezels are ugly.

I don't think the actual device is bad, I do think even in that screenshot above from @maflynn that the colour on the back should be on the front.

It is a device that will sell very well to Apples biggest customer segment, the general consumer. And I think they will be really happy with them.

No question make it a bit bolder, especially since I think darker boarders helps overall. I'd probably be more tempted had it not been for the fact, I was planning on upgrading my iPad this year. Still as I mentioned, there are other factors that make it a poor fit for me but I get why people can be pulled into the RDF. Apple does such a great job at marketing their wares.

With that said, I did cringe at the keyboard and mouse offerings, I absolutely loath their keyboards and their magic mouse while not bad while using it, is ridiculous in having the USB port for charging underneath, thus preventing its usage while charging.

Any and all ;)

As I watch YT responses to the 4/20 event, one thought has started to form in my mind.
What is the difference between a M1 MBA, Mini and iMac? The performance should be identical especially when compared to the mini. Why spend so much money on an iMac, simply because you can have a specific color

correct you are!
which gets worse by the month. apple app on the iPad needed a password, then a finger print then a 6 digit code verification to install a sSandisk iXpand drive while everything else "apple" gets an easy install.
there are other nuisances and slow iCloud syncing that takes a day now compared to minutes as in the recent past.

betcha we cannot take these Imac apart or upgrade any components which makes these disposable if something happens. but then again they are made for those who don't want a computer but need to have a computer so apple made these to match their iPhone, iPads, etc. in that gardened performance and disposability.

The actively cooled M1's will perform a little better under sustained loads, equally nothing ground breaking. Right now it's more a question of which is the better format for the intended use. Never been much of a fan of the iMac and the new M1 models haven't changed that, Apple will sell them in volume as they are in many respects exactly what many will want.

Agreed, they will take up no space on a desk and matchy matchy with all the other Apple bling around it. Apple know people love that :)

You seem like a reasonable guy. A person I could have drink with and enjoy your company. I'm not kidding.

And with all that said, while we agree on a lot of things, it's funny how something so basic and not really important can make people think in a really different ways.

I simply hate the looks of new iMacs. They look like child toys to me. You on the other hand like the looks.
I hate windows networking with all my body and soul. Actually, I'm not even in minority here, since most of web is Linux based. I hate File Explorer with all my gut, since it takes a lot of screen real estate with big clunk buttons, doesn't have dual pane, tabs, or any other really basic functions. You on the other hand love File Explorer.

But where we usually agree is that everyone has their own preferences. And subjective preferences aren't something to argue about. You seem to understand that very well.

I'm gonna try to love File Explorer just because of you. I will still hate it, but hey, at least I will try :D

Personally I think the new iMac does a pretty good job of solidifying where Apple sees the Mac going.

For the typical consumer, the iMac is a really solid product. I have no doubt that it'll sell well and honestly I'd even go so far as to recommend it to people I know.

But personally? I wouldn't buy one. If anything it's helped validate my decision to switch back to PCs.
