Hello there

I am getting some extra money next week and considering to buy a new iPhone 11 Pro to replace my 6S. The 6S works perfectly but I'll give it to my mom, as her old Android is difficult to use.

I read about iOS 13 and I saw multiple errors, including battery drain, Mail app issues, Bluetooth connectivity issues etc etc

I am not confident in buying a new iPhone, especially for 2.5k SGD with accessories.

Are they anyone in the same situation, waiting for iOS 13.2 or above before buying?

For those who bought it already, why didn't you wait and do you regret it? How do you cope with these issues?

13.2 hasn't been too bad for me, it's not perfect (but no software is). But also, perfectionists have made iOS 13 sound a lot worst than it actually is. If you've tried it on your 6s you can evaluate it for yourself. But in my experience, it's been decent.

I’ve had a few glitches with the podcast app and before the first patch CarPlay did some strange things but it’s nothing that would have me ranting on the internet or considering to not buy a phone.

I love my iPhone 11 Pro Max. What I do not love is that PNG files do not show up as transparent in iOS 13 and Apple hasn’t figured out this bug yet. I need this for my business to be able to edit photos and add my watermark. I have had some other issues too but I am hoping they come up with a fix to the transparency issue.

I don't know what's all the fuss here. Some people don't know how to use their phones really. I got a new iPhone 11 Pro 512GB and it's on iOS 13.1.2 with 0 issues and the battery life without exaggeration has been the best from any phone I used in the past, 2-3 days easily I never have to worry about charging it and even if I need to, I have an 18W adapter for that it's super fast to charge.

Oh and the camera is just insane man!

If you see yourself getting an iPhone eventually, I see no difference in getting one now vs getting one later. Sure, I have experienced some bugs on my 8+, but they have been pretty minor, and I trust that Apple will eventually get round to fixing them (I have decided to hold off on upgrading for now, as I find the new iPhones a little too expensive for my tastes, so I ultimately went with a post-paid plan with M1 for a sizeable $40 reduction in my monthly bill).

That said, how are you paying so much for an iPhone? Even the 256gb pro max is $2039 SGD (or am I reading the currency wrong?) ala carte, and most get them via a carrier anyways.

Thanks for all your replies.

I am just worried by all the bugs found on this site. I understand it is a forum and people posts here for help and there is nothing to tell us "out of 100 people, 34 or 82 persons are having issues", however are you not worried to see so many topics and every time there is a topic we have several people saying "me too"?

I am going to Tasmania so I might buy the phone to make good pictures before flying over.

@Abazigal: I am at 2300 SGD with Apple Care + but I need to add a screen protector and a case so I give myself 200 SGD of wiggle room, which should be sufficient.

It’s pretty much like this every year. Some can be lighter, and some heavier on issues and discussions, but mostly this isn’t all that unusual compared to many past years and new iOS and iPhone versions.

I haven't exactly seen any critical show-stopping bugs that might render the phone unusable. For myself, I did encounter an issue with the notes app not always syncing with my iPad, but it's a minor inconvenience overall. I did do a clean restore on my phone a week ago and it seems to have sped up performance on my 8+ as well. I think you will appreciate the longer battery life on the pro, since my 8+ admittedly does seem to be dying a little faster than usual these days.

I have been running iOS 13 on my iPhone 7 (and iPad Air 2) since public beta 5, no major issues with it.

From all the feedback I read, the biggest problem was (and still remains) with Apple Mail stock app, both in iOS 13 and Catalina. However, this can easily be fixed by using Spark or any other dedicated mailing app (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.)

Other than that, it is fine and, for me, a swipe keyboard and dark mode are well worth updating.

What prevented me from buying a new iPhone is not an iOS, but the fact that my current one works well and is currently the smallest and lightest of them all, as even iPhone 8 is heavier than 7 due to its glass back. So I am waiting for a smaller size/weight option.

Are we able to quantify the number of people facing issues vs total iPhone sold, so far? Do you think it is a minority?

God, ios13 is such a buggy mess, safari is totally brocken, messages as well, photos partly ****ed... wtf is going on in apple...

I am still having 6s with iOS 12, whose battery replaced last year. Still fast and stable. But with the release iPadOS 13 made me buy iPad Air 3 due to its new features :)

There was/is only one issue.

Apple Mail.

And it has been fixed 90% by iOS 13.1.

And it is an issue if you have 100k plus emails I guess. And even then it is a minor issue now as it has mostly been fixed.

iOS 13 hasn't prevented me from buying a new iPhone. My iPhone X is still working nicely.

There are some issues I'm currently having with iOS and iPadOS which is a weird mixture of not updated apps and some issues by Apple itself.

Some "new" stuff I don't like, mostly because it doesn't looks how I'm used to or it requires more steps to accomplished now.

No, but it should have. I wish I hadn’t been so quick to trade in my XS Max for an 11 Pro Max. The XSM ran beautifully on iOS 12.4.1. In my own defense, I ran the XSM on 13.0 for 24 hours and did not have the problems that happened immediately with the 11PM. iOS 13 remains a botched trainwreck for me and lots of others.

One of the posts above says Mail has been 90% fixed by 13.1.2. Maybe for him. Lots of us still have numerous and serious problems with Mail, making Mail almost unusable or at least unreliable.

I didn’t wait on my 11 Pro Max but I probably should have. I was warned by those beta testing 13 that there a lot of bugs. There still are. But for me the most persistent ones are iCloud related. Anything that syncs through iCloud can be impacted and it‘s worse on some device models than others. Safari syncing on my iPad Pro 12” 3rd gen and iPhone 7 does not work. It is working on my 11 Pro Max and Macbook Pro laptop. If you haven’t already acquired one of the new devices I would wait until 13.2. I believe it will be acceptable by then. My 11 Pro Max has actually been quite good but I can only speak to that model. As I said the current bugs can be device specific. I even had issues with my 4K Apple TV. It lost the ability to feed Dolby Atmos to my soundbar. Fortunately the fix was fairly simple, I toggled off Dolby Atmos in settings and then back on, that fixed it. Toggling settings will be necessary on almost all the devices at one time or another. And I’ve had to sign out of iCloud on all my devices for one issue or another. So be prepared for that as well.

Thank you for your message and realizing that it is not a good time to buy. Especially for the 3 or 4 people who rushed to buy it. At least some of them are smart enough to admit it was a rushed decision. It can be hard sometimes to acknowledge when we make a mistake.

I went to the store and didn’t buy it. I’ll check in a few weeks.

I think the new iPhone 11s, especially the Pros are terrific. But I would assume 13.2 will be released fairly soon and I would expect the most egregious issues to be resolved. Not that long a wait. They apparently really had to push 13 out, when it wasn’t ready, to meet the release of the new phones. A couple weeks or less for you won’t hurt a thing.

I used to wait until December or January. That was a better choice IMHO. The 11Pro hardware really seduced me this year. I will say that I think that the 11 Pro and Max are outstanding pieces of hardware, way ahead of the XS and Max. The problem is that iOS 13 so far is a completely buggy mess. I would rather still be using my XS Max on 12.4.1. Lesson learned, back to my old habits next year.

how is it a buggy mess though? seems like a slight overreaction.

For me, it's not iOS 13 but the iPhone 11 itself. I'll continue using my XS Max for another year. The battery capacity still shows as 100% a full year after purchasing so it will easily last another year or more.

I have one annoying bug where my phone will show it is in airplane mode with airplane mode on or off. I can turn it on and off several times and it still shows it's in airplane mode. Restarting the phone is the only fix for it. I believe this happened on iOS 12 as well on the last update or two on that version.

No issues with iOS 13.1.2 on my XS Max other than the rare app crash. Unless you're using your phone as a work computer for editing photos or something I don't see why not to upgrade.
