Has the new P30 Pro made the iPhone obsolete?

With the tech they add every year and the huge camera strides they make. The P30 Pro is sounding like the best smartphone ever made as a whole on the World level! I know the screen isn’t as good as it should be but everything else is top notch. The low light function and 50x zoom is INCREDIBLE! The dual video view is my favorite of all and it’s $200 cheaper than an iPhone. And after hearing the iPhone 11 rumored to not be anything special. It seems like the iPhone is an afterthought on the World level! If only they could sell Huawei in the US I would be buying one for sure and making the switch.

I don't buy my phones based on spec sheets, I buy based on the ecosystem. This doesn't run iOS, so it's out. At the levels we're dealing with these days, software absolutely trumps hardware for me.

Also, last I checked, my iPhone is still alive and kicking. It doesn't appear to have been made obsolete. It still does everything today it was able to do yesterday. At this point, I have every reason to suspect the story will be the same tomorrow.

For me it comes down to security/fast updates, long term software support and hardware support. But I think of my smartphone as more of a computing device that fits into my pocket, not a camera so my wants/needs are obviously going to be different. For me the iPhone is the best device.

My top 5 reasons to buy an iPhone:
- iOS
- excellent hardware
- ecosystem
- longevity
- Support

The camera isn't even in the top 5, for me.

And I want to have as much fun with Animoji’s as the camera. What you believe people want might be different than what people actually want.

99% of my camera use is taking a pic of some item on Walmart's shelf so my wife can see what she wants me to bring home for her.

Does she really need to see it in high def?

Honestly people are just overboard on phone cams. I get people want to take pics but beyond good quality I don't see a point unless you're a pro.

A bazillion megapixels or not other people still don't want to see pics of your vacation or family outing. So the only person this caters to is the self-obsessed. My opinion.

If the iPhone still takes good pictures, it's not obsolete. I also think that a lot of us would rather not be price-gouged on camera quality if we had the option to opt for a standard-HD quality camera in an otherwise top-of-the-line iPhone, so are our choices obsolete now?

We all know the CPU will always be better on the iPhone. But really, does opening an app a second sooner matter that much? It seems like with all the tests video editing is where iPhone really flex’s it muscles but everything else is basically the same.

More apps can be held in the ram on P30

More storage options

Fastest charging standard out of the box, 85% in 30 min..(including wireless 15w)

I could go on but it just seems Apple doesn’t care to be the Top dog in the world anymore as far as innovation. And when we pay more for a phone then rivals and get way less in a lot of areas it is depressing.

I respect that. Everyone will be different and care about different stuff. It’s just sad to me to see all these beautiful New buildings being built around me and I’m stuck in the older so so building. Lol

The problem with these cross-comparisons is iPhone is built entirely for iOS. So the raw stats are not really an even comparison. Also, with the Huawei running Android, it's hard to tell if the phone will perform the same in 4-6 months.

In short, no. Apple's investment in a wholly owned Operating System and ecosystem makes it completely relevant with comparable specs.

Right now, iPhone is right where it should be, but come September it needs to be as good or better than the P30.

I guess the point everyone here is making is that it doesn't run on iOS, so it doesn't matter what other companies are offering because it's the software that makes the difference. I'm sure Apple knows this, but I'm also sure they'll still work on developing the best phone they can.

If you're not getting value for your money, it would be silly to keep spending that money. If Apple doesn't give you want you need, stop giving them money!

As for me, I can't agree with the "get way less" part of that statement. But I'm not solely focused on hardware like you seem to be. While we might get less on the spec sheets, there's a much bigger story being told here than just hardware. Some of us care about that bigger picture, thus we still find value is giving Apple money and don't find ourselves depressed by our decisions.

Neither would I and it’s got nothing to do with them spying for the Chinese government as I don’t care about that. I don’t have any faith in the quality of their products. Huawei have long had a reputation in the UK as being producers of cheap Chinese Tat. Maybe they’ve improved their quality standards but I just wouldn’t take this risk.

That doesn’t surprise me, Huawei doesn’t sell that many expensive phones to begin with, its more of a value brand no matter how hard they are now trying to pivot.
