Motto in life. You can afford it when you can afford 3.

If you have that £/$1000 keep it till you have 3.

20's I was very spendy. 30's I'm frugal in all aspects of life. Older and wiser maybe but savings are good for a rainy day, unexpected life events, job loss. Debt is never good I have no debt bar a mortgage.

In the end it's just a device for web viewing. As a scociety we are trained that consumerism is good, we spend so we are. Guess who profits from your now empty/minus funds bank account. It rarely brings long term happiness.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Very happy Air 2 user who has zero desire to upgrade right now but I'll definitely be picking up the revised Pro whenever it finally releases.
IPad Pro 2 coming December 2020 ;)

Nope ; the so called New iPad has nothing on my Air 2. I'm in the 10.5 inch camp :), soon to be the latest & greatest ! The wait continues:rolleyes:

I have the original iPad Air, wifi, with only 16GB of storage. I'm thinking the new iPad would be a worthwhile upgrade for twice the storage, and better overall performance. Safari isn't exactly snappy and the re-loading of pages gets annoying.

Air 2 still performs perfectly. No necessity, for me, to have bigger battery.
Shall not be tempted until next 12.9" - and then only for PDF reading, so not in a hurry.

I'm not gonna get another tablet with 2GB RAM.

When Apple released the 9.7 iPad Pro in March 2016, I was all set to purchase it, then I awaited the confirmation of how much RAM it had. When I found out it had 2 GB of RAM and the price was $650, which was $50 more than I expected, I actually passed on it. So I'm definitely looking forward to 3 Gb of RAM is the minimum.

I keep saying iPad but uhhmmm Surface laptop was tempting... and now they have another event on the 23rd of may if it's a surface 5 with good battery life it might be really hard to resist just because it's sheer capability but at the same time it's Windows which can be so "yuck" sometimes so I'm conflicted big time

I went from an iPad Mini 4 to the new iPad.

I did have a look at the iPad Pro in the Apple store but was put off by the price, that and the fact that newer Pros may come out soon.

The 2017 iPad does everything I want apart from not having front (or side) facing stereo speakers.

I am not familiar with the surface book but have a surface pro 2, which I needed to run one windows legacy item. It was ok but the iPad was a smoother less clunky experience. The surface forums were, last I looked, awash with comments about bugginess, especially after windows 10. Imagine its been sorted out by now. I no longer need the windows software.

Windows 10 has come a long way. It's way better than it was previously, but it's a completely different world from MacOS and takes time to adapt.

I cannot see how anyone would rid themselves of an iPad Air 2 for the new iPad. Back to a non laminated display? Thicker? Really just seems like a backward step to me, regardless of the A9 chip. Surely it's wiser just to wait a bit if that temptation occurred.

Personally, I haven't been able to justify a need for an iPad. Having an iPhone already, an iPad only duplicates what I already have. The only benefit I see with an iPad is a larger screen. Unfortunately I find the larger size only makes it more awkward to hold and interact with.

So, if I had an iPad already, I personally couldn't justify updating to a newer one. I can't even justify a much newer iPhone because the one I have is still able to do everything the latest one can do (except Apple Pay - which has no value to me).

The problem with iOS, is that all iOS devices essentially replicate the same functionality. So having one iOS device negates the need for another, unless it is for multiple people.

If iPads were substantially different from iPhones, then perhaps one could easily justify both.

In comparing two iPads, I would have to find that one iPad was completely unable to do what I needed before I could justify buying a newer one. But, since they are both iOS devices, that distinction would be harder to make.

The one exception might be compatibility with the pencil. But that is also dependent on whether you like or need that ability.

For me it was double the base storage and better battery. My air 2 was 2.5 years old and the battery was just not as good. Even new, the air 2's battery is not as good as the iPad 2017.

of course it is ive realized it 5 minutes after making the post :D;)

For my needs, nope not a chance. I have an Air 2 128GB WIFI only since October 2014 and its still perfectly fine with performance. I would love to get a Pro someday, the 12.9 inch to be exact but until Apple actually releases an iPad that's actually a PRO model with PRO features, there isn't any reason for me to upgrade. The only other consideration is getting a mini to go along with what I have already, I LOVE the portability of the mini and I'm hoping we may see an upgraded mini again soon but I'm not holding my breath. Either that or getting a mini 4 heavily discounted now when the new models hit. We shall see.

I've seen several people here using battery life as the main justification for upgrading from an Air or Air 2 to the new 2017 iPad. I'm just curious and this is in no way meant to be a criticism, but what is everyone doing on their iPads that a battery life of 9-10 hours is unacceptable but 11-12 is worth giving up a laminated screen and thinner, lighter chassis? On the iPhone, I get placing battery life at such a high priority since getting an iPhone through the day has historically been a challenge. But with an iPad, I just can't imagine staring at a screen for 10 hours in a single day, and that's coming from someone who takes his to work and uses it to take notes. Seems to me that 10 hours is more than enough to get me through the day. At that point, what does it matter how much extra battery is remaining? You can always just charge it overnight. Is there another use case that I'm missing?

I got 17hrs but yeah. I don't think it's for air 2 users. The laminate/non laminate is overblown on here. At the Apple Store most were asking which was the Pro and which was the new iPad.

Im an ex 12.9 user and happy with the new iPad. Prefer the 9.7 size. The Pro 9.7'in real world use for me is a lot more money for two extra speakers. I'm happy.

No, not sure why I would. The Air 2 is thinner, lighter, has a better screen, laminated glass and is plenty fast enough!

The Air 2 works wonderfully for the most part although will have a occasional hiccup, I'm very interested to see what new Pro models will bring.
