Those who mentioned faster webbrowsing, are you using Wi-Fi 6? Can you give some examples of heavy websites that are instantly there on the new iPad Pro? For my 2018 I had to disable the 2.4 GHz band on my router to get a speed boost in safari.

I’m using Wi-Fi 6 with 250 Mbps fiber internet. I was using it with my 3rd generation 2018 iPad Pro and since upgrading to the new iPad Pro, the difference is immediately noticeable with any website I visit.

I played with around with the new iPad Pro 12.9 at Best Buy and yes there is a noticeable increase in speed but it wasn't a major difference.

I don’t have Wi-Fi 6, my internet download speed is only 58 Mbps. But since I disabled the 2.4 GHz band on my router, a webpage like, apple, macrumors, amazon need 1 second to load and scrolling through that pages barely you can see an image loading on my 2018 and 2020.

I had a 2018 with 4GB RAM. This one has 16GB. The John’s Hopkins COVID website with all the graphs would often cause my iPad to crash out of safari or reload with a warning when switching between various views quickly and maximizing certain panes. It doesn’t do that anymore. Apps install a lot faster after the initial download. Apps stay in memory seemingly forever and even when they don’t which is rare they like flash and load up in a split second most of the time. Not even sure TBH if they’re not just refreshing their data instead of reloading. Having a hard time finding a task to test this thing.

MKBHD did a 1 hour iMovie export on the 2020 and 2021 and the 2021 was 30% faster (17min on the 2020 and 12 on the 2021). For a single generation upgrade that's not shabby.

Virtually all YouTube content creators' videos are around the 10 minute range where there's hardly any difference like MKBHD's last few videos. The fact that MKBHD used a 1 hour video instead of something realistic is further proof that a lot of reviewers aren't up front and truthful.

What a ridiculous question considering the spec jump ?
Not ridiculous at all. In MKBHD review, he said he didn't notice a difference for everyday task in speed department. Aside of better ram so apps will stay longer in the background, I think its more of a placebo effect for simple tasks like web browsing, youtube etc.

Web pages already load instantly on my old iMac 2015 as well as my Air 3 and up.

Please don't tell me that even with 16GB of RAM you had some apps reloading? At 16GB RAM, I expect no more than no reload at all, period. Jeez, my iMac have only 8GB RAM and I never have any reloads...

To be fair, these new chips never come fully optimized out of the gate. Yes the M1 has been out for a bit now, but brand new to ipad os

spent most of their time getting it ready for mac OS lol

And that’s a lie. I have a few iPad Air 3’s and a 12 pro max. None of them load up these safari pages instantly like this new pros dows. Sounds like you need a serious internet upgrade or you’re just that big of a troll. Take your pick

As some others have already said, the loading of web-pages and apps is a lot snappier than the 2020.

I loved my 2020 12.9, it was my favourite of all of the iPad’s I have owned. But this M1, it’s now a firm favourite and has so much more to give..

I am keen to learn of iOS 15 and how the new iPadOS will utilise the potential of the M1 chip.

I've just tested again and yes, web pages load instantly on my Air 3. In fact, its the same speed as my 2018 iPad pro. I have a 400Mbps connection so its pretty fast so it must be because of it. Sure the Air 3 isn't as smooth as the 2018 pro, but I can tell you for sure that's pretty much the same as the Pro for Web browsing or opening apps like youtube etc.

So yeah, I believe trusted reviewer like MKBHD when he said there's practically no difference in speed for everyday tasks. Have you watched some speed test on youtube comparing sometimes iPhones like the 6s or 7 VS the recent ones? For light app speed like web browsing, there's sometime a difference of 0.5 seconds and we talk about 2 to 4 year gap between those devices.

Sure the new iPad pro are better and smoother I don't deny that, but for everyday's task pure speed, I can say for sure people won't notice any real difference unless they compare them side by side.

To be honest not really, apps do seem to be quicker. Currently only on wifi up to 50mb so hard to measure really but iPads have always felt lighting fast anyway.

I mean, I didn't notice it much. Boot times and update times were significantly quicker, but that happens so little that it doesn't matter. AirDropping a few hundred photo's was quicker, not so much in the transfer since both are WiFi6 capable devices, but the processing of the sent files after was noticeably quicker. Affinity Photo is where I had my first "woah this thing is fast yo" moment, though. The program literally booted in mere seconds, like blink and you miss it quick, 1 or 2 seconds at most. Where the 2020 model needed about 7 seconds to boot the App.

All in all, the 2020 model is still quick, no doubt about it, but if this is where the M1 is starting off, I'd say we have some fun times ahead when App builders get to work with that new horse power.

I don’t notice any difference other than battery life and weight. Seems heavier and the battery isn‘t as good. Screen is gorgeous and that camera is pretty cool on calls.

Any place but here or there....
Yes, everything is much faster save for Procreate, which was the reason why I upgraded (More memory for Procreate.)

I like my 11” iPP, but not sure if I’ll keep this iPad Pro if it doesn’t perform better in Procreate. So I may swap for another iPad Air (I love the power button touch ID and I do not need faster download times, responsiveness for other tasks.)

Battery life isn’t great and it’s running hot too. Not sure if I will return today or wait until Friday night to do so.

I had a 2020 11” iPad Pro and this 2021 runs circles around it, but ultimately the Air is more my speed.

Massive difference coming from a 3rd gen which has pretty much the same chip as the 2020 model, safari quicker, 120hz quicker, the whole UI quicker, keyboard quicker, loading apps and game quicker, this M1 iPad feels faster than my M1 MacBook Pro.

Feel sorry for anyone buying these garbage android, Samsung tablets with them crap chipsets ?‍♂️

If I was them I’d give up now, they’ll never catch apple or even come close.

Destroys the MacBook Pro in a few test, M1 iPad is one impressive beast.

I cannot wait to see what iPad OS 15 does with this hardware, as it stands the A12X and A12Z were never fully utilized moat apps and games, but I hope with the M1 and more unity between iPad hardware and Mac hardware, we see iPad OS take a closer step to being a bit of a hybrid of sorts.

Always believed there is a reason why they went with the M1 chip and 16gb ram in these iPads, all will be revealed at WWDC ?

To make insane margins off people buying iPads? I kid. But obviously apple is going to focus on hdr content. Creation, editing etc. Just a guess since xdr is rumored in about every upcoming mac or oled for iPad Air. Games, video, photos, art or anything that can be enhanced with hdr.

However I don’t think turning an iPad into a Mac is on the list.

Hell, for regular usage I haven't noticed much of a speed increase when compared to my old 2017 10.5! Loading some apps is a couple ticks faster, but not really noticeable moment to moment.

However, where I do notice a big difference is when using certain harder hitting apps. For example I love playing with Korg Gadget, which is a music creation app, and on my 10.5 if my project had any degree of complexity and more than a handful of tracks then it would chug and stutter like crazy. On my new M1 iPad I can't seem to make it skip a beat no matter how hard I try to crush it! I love it!

The biggest change in performance I have noticed, and this is a very positive change, is that many, many more apps stay open in the background on my 256GB / 8GB model. As someone who uses a lot of apps and multitasks a lot when working on this device, it is worth this upgrade alone over the next few years relative to the 2018 model.

For my podcast production work the MP3 exports and leveling mono wav files is bonkers fast - very noticeable over the 2020 model. Also that RAM is making a difference with background apps not shutting down and browser tabs staying open.
