Yes, everything is much faster save for Procreate, which was the reason why I upgraded (More memory for Procreate.)

I like my 11” iPP, but not sure if I’ll keep this iPad Pro if it doesn’t perform better in Procreate. So I may swap for another iPad Air (I love the power button touch ID and I do not need faster download times, responsiveness for other tasks.)

Battery life isn’t great and it’s running hot too. Not sure if I will return today or wait until Friday night to do so.

I had a 2020 11” iPad Pro and this 2021 runs circles around it, but ultimately the Air is more my speed.
Procreate is not accessing the M1 chip properly right now - they are working on it (only accessing 2gb of ram). So hopefully soon it will be working better!!!

I have a 2018 12.9 & 11 and was not planning on upgrading - it still runs great. But hearing how zippy it is, I may keep the 12.9 coming tomorrow. Maybe I will sell my 2018 to get the 11". My daughter is getting my 11" to do animation / drawing....

Procreate needs to be updated for the 2021 iPad Pros. Right now they don’t understand the identifier, so Procreate is treating it as if it had 2GB RAM. This will be fixed in a patch.

From Procreate’s site ( https://folio.procreate.art/discussions/4/10/46740 ):

We can't yet say how long it will take us to bring out a patch to make the new iPads compatible with Procreate. At the moment Procreate automatically caps your device at 2GB RAM, due to it being an 'unidentified' device. The good news is that the M1 arrived here at Savage today so we're straight into testing and starting to work on the new patch. :)

What a ridiculous question considering the spec jump ?
Not really a crazy question. A faster CPU may make things like render times or export times quicker in an app; but might not 'feel' any faster to an end user; making it less of a value for a casual user.

Though in this case, it DOES feel a lot snappier.

The 2gig ram limitation is temporarily on Procreate's end and as mentioned they're working on it, but beyond that the iPads are limiting the 16gig M1 Pros to 5 gigs of ram per app. This has been confirmed by multiple developers.

Yes, that will probably be addressed in the iPadOS 15 update is my guess.

Any place but here or there....
Thanks everyone for the update on Procreate and RAM, oh well. I had to return my M1 11”. Hopefully the next iPad Air will get a RAM increase too so I can use Procreate without future hiccups. May you all enjoy your M1s.

Just an update, decided to email Tim Cook about nice tech support and told him how much I love using Procreate with the iPads and Apple pencil and hope his teams can work with Procreate to remove the 2GB cap so I can buy an M1. ? That’s probably not how it works, but it couldn’t hurt to say something.

Thanks for posting that link.

Well, with the Procreate patch released and Best Buy price matching Microcenter’s $70 discount on the 11” iPad Pro 256”, I bought another M1. Still love my Air, but drawing is helping me so much right now, I jumped. ?

Thanks to everyone who posted about the Procreate patch and RAM etc.
