Yeah, the other night when I was at a comedy show at Birmingham Arena. Also, a woman next to me had the silver one so we compared to my SG. We agreed that silver outside of the case looked nice, but not so much inside a black case with the silver contrast at the bottom. Her husband preferred my SG to hers and thought it looked great in the black case. Very much a talking point, and even yesterday at a business meeting I had people commenting in it being the new X and looking very nice indeed. It's not what I bought it for, just a phone and used no different to my SE, but it does get attention at the moment.

I'm in the UK so that's not my experience.
Let me describe the UK experience for you. Is that an iPhone X can i see it. Sure. Stranger legs it with the phone and you are left standing there looking stupid.

That is what I was thinking. Looks like the UK and USA both have their share of thieves. The last thing I want to do is draw attention to the fact I am using a $1000+ phone.

The Sony PSP back in 2005 at Puente Hills Mall is the gadget that drew the most attention for me.

Puente Hills is where they filmed Twin Pines Mall for Back To The Future. I remember sitting inside a book store against the glass window and a bunch of teenagers behind me was watching me play Ridge Racer on it.

Those were some prehistoric times in tech. Sony PSP was the first to show me what Wi-Fi browsing was all about since my phones weren't smart. I used to get free NetGear in my condo and I would use the PSP to browse on it for 3 hrs max. Still only had Wi-Fi "b" and typing was horrendous.

This was before I got the iPod video in Oct 2005. I didn't own a smartphone until Jan 2008. I never get much attention from iPhones because everyone has them! The X will sell a ton. Enjoy the first few weeks of owning one before everyone and their grandma will own one.

I actually have a PopSocket on mine right over the Apple logo. Its the ultimate attention-deterrent because regular folk assume its just some garbage phone and techies get so angry that they wouldn't dare speak to such a dirt bag.

Unfortunately, hiding my iPhone X has resulted in me losing out on all the attention from those gorgeous ladies roaming around the kia dealership.

PopSocket? Just Googles . . . . interesting.

I would hate this. I like people but I wouldn’t want someone trying to look at my phone and ask to see it. I also hate when people point out expensive things I buy or make a big deal about it.

The X will be in the market for three years or more. Then toss in the successors will look exactly like it next year and will still have similar external with the following two years.

At worst, the X sells 50M. That's still 5-10x better than most Android flagships including Galaxy S. But it is expected to sell nearly 100M in a year and 130M in less than two years. That's the X alone. Not including the stronger identical twins that will follow it.

People think that iPhones are Mercedes-Benz or Bentley when it's as common as a commuter car like Honda and Toyota. It's as commercialized as Starbucks with people still eating at McDonald's or KFC for lunch.

Here in the States especially when you can get it the cheapest and through installment plans. Nothing special owning an iPhone anymore. You get that 1 min attention from strangers and they will completely forget about you a minute later.

Last time it felt special owning an iPhone was the very first one. Only one carrier in the States, $600, and sold the least amount. The worst iPhone installed base ever. Less than 10M. But it was the only time it felt fresh and chic (sheek) owning an iPhone.

Yes, happened to me one time. A waiter in a restaurant asked if it´s the new iPhone X. I don‘t like situations like this

I had two servers come up to me in a restaurant last week. I found myself trying to hide the phone subtly.

happens to me quite often. It’s fantastic ! They come up to me very cautiously “ in excuse me but Is that the new iPhone X ? “ once I say yes they immediately geek out LOL. Such an awesome response. I show them the camera and it ALWAYS blows them away, I have a bunch of selfies with strangers and we have so much fun. A lot of them being gorgeous women is a bonus lol made some friends recently with a few of them and it’s thanks to this phone.

Other day I was at the dealership getting some work done to my car. A girl was there with her boyfriend. Same deal, she asked about my phone and I did the routine. Her boyfriend immediately took out his note 8 “ yeah my camera is Preety clear too “

I go:

“ yeah bro my camera doesn’t lag LOL ( I actually laughed ) “ as his had some delay while he moved it around and my X was nice and smooth. It’s clear samsung owners don’t notice that annoying delay/lag on their cameras. Oh well.

But anyways, how many times do you get approached while having your X out in public ?

What’s cool too is that 9/10 times it ends in “ I have to get it ! I thought it was the same thing ! “

This phone is awesome. Apple knows what they are doing.
Agree. With my beautiful and attention getter silver iphone be X in my shirt pocket, I always get attention and admiration.:)

Only once with an iPhone which was the 4. Some of us don't need a gadget to boost our ego. My phone is usually in my holster case.

About 70% I see in SoCal are iPhone users. Most live in $2M+ homes where I work and drive Mercedes. Would they even care? You will always find someone much poorer AND richer than you.

My parents make six figures. My mother collects $1000-$1500+ Louis Vuitton and Hermès handbags and sells them off years later even or profit. More lucrative than a mass-produced phone that depreciates in a few months.

She thinks it is stupid to buy a $1000+ phone. That's not her priority. Same with my Stepdad. Real estate and travel are. They would rather travel like 4-5x per year and go on cruises than spend a G on a phone.

Both either drive Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, or Lexus for nearly 30 years. They aren't rich either but they know what high end is. If you want to be cool, be yourself. Don't need a gadget to boost. That's pathetic. Most don't really care.

Phones are cool but not as cool as a big house, nice car, and big package down there. Some of us can attract women without a phone if you know what I mean. ;) Just be yourself or walk a cute dog. My dog, Charlie, is a better chick magnet than an iPhone will ever be.
Is this Mac Rumors or a personals ad?

Some of us don't need any material items to attract someone. Personality goes a lot farther than anything you mentioned for a quality relationship.

That member you responded to in your post is no longer an active forum member, they won't be responding to you. Regardless, you severely misinterpreted their Post. The OP was using examples of how others are materialistic in the sense of how they interpret their own views on how they choose to spend money.

Besides my friends and I, I have only seen an iPhone X at work and at a movie theater. Not many in the wild yet. I think many people are choosing the 8 over the X, cause of price. Next generation X may be more popular, when Face ID is a little faster.
