Other Have you gone from a + back to a regular size, and why?

I’ve been having a + since the 6 (originally got the regular 6 then went to a plus a few months later, and I’ve had one since).

There are things I really love about having the + but my hands are small and it IS difficult (for me) to use one handed.

If you were a + user and have gone back to a smaller phone, why did you, and how satisfied are you with that move?

I went from my 7+ to the X. Now when I hold my wifes 7+ I find it to be huge.
Still getting the new plus phone this September though. So want the larger screen.

Why is using your phone one-handed some sort of thing? Is using two hands so you don't break a ~$900 device so horrible?

I have a 5 and a 4s as well. I use them with two hands.

Don't get this "difficult to use with one hand" thing as if that's some desirable quality.

I played with the thought of getting the smaller phone last year for similar reasons, wanted to have a device that doesn’t necessarily need two hands to operate but I stayed with the plus sized phone in the end for the better camera and display.

...I'm currently using my iPhone 8 Plus (my first ever 'Plus' sized iPhone) and although the big screen is nice, this is the very reason I will be looking to downsize this September. If they release a new X Plus which is bigger than the current X model but smaller than the 8 Plus - I'm sold!

It can be really difficult if you’re using public transport or carrying something in your hand. I face this pretty often.

Well with my Loopy case (which I love), I’m pretty much always holding it in one hand, so being able to do things one handed is just nice - not mandatory, but nice.

I went from the 5 to the 6+ and like a few here, I loved the screen size but I couldn't comfortably fit the phone in my pant pockets and sit down. I just found it was awkward no matter how I carried it: jacket pocket, when running with an armband, etc. I moved on to the regular 6s and find it the perfect phone size for my needs. It took just a day to get used to the smaller screen size, now I never even think about it. I do miss the battery life of the + though, felt like I never worried about it. I find the 6s, even with a replacement battery, burns through the battery in less than a day, I'm always charging it.

When my 6s dies, I'll probably upgrade to a X size phone, that is still manageable.

I’ve had ever + device issued and upgraded from the 7+ to the X in November last year. I do miss the size of the + and only upgraded because the X was new and seemed worthy enough to upgrade. I use the X with both hands majority of the time and may or may not upgrade to the X + in the fall.

I went from the 6+ to the normal 8.

The screen size is awesome for the 6+ and it replaced my ipad mini for the most part. But the physical size and weight is challenging at times. As others mentioned, sometimes using it one handed while the other hand is full can be a challenge. Comfort in certain pants (I don't wear skinny jeans) and workout shorts can be annoying. The 6+ really swings around in workout shorts so its not comfortable in the gym. The height of the phone really presses against my hips when sitting down in certain pants.

The 8 is awesome for when I'm out. Its easy to use one handed. Since I was used to the 6+, the 8 "disappears" in my pockets..even in workout shorts. The screensize obviously isn't as nice, but its a trade off for a physically smaller phone. I do still use my 6+ and ipad mini at home so the smaller screen doesn't bother me that much. I do also miss the much longer battery life of my 6+. I find myself paying more attention to my use of the 8 as to not run out of battery at an inopportune time.

That said, if I had to pick only one ios device, I'd pick the plus version. But if I had an ipad already, I'd go with the smaller phone.

This is where I would do one of two things. Use an old beater phone while on transport (such as my iPhone 5 or 4s) while my primary phone is safely put away. When I get where I am going, switch back to my primary phone.

All my iPhones and my iPad are setup to bounce iMessage and SMS between them, including my 4s which is still able to use iMessage on iOS 6.1.3.

But I have no life, really, and I'm not in such need that I am required to answer the phone any time there is a call.

That said, I carry two phones all the time anyway…

Because the newest design ( the X ) is smaller than the plus and I love the new design. If iPhone X were larger or the same size as the plus, I would have gotten it. However, the pro is the regular size ( current iPhone X ) fits on my shirt pocket and feels comfortable in my pants pocket also. The con is that it has a slimmer screen compared to the plus.

Same reason as you, hands too small, hard to use 1 handed. Changed from 6+ to 6. Now using an X and i still find it big.
iPhone 6 was the slimest and very light phone, maybe thats why

Pretty sure I'm going with a smaller phone this year. While I love the battery life and the camera on my 8+, it can feel big at times as others have stated. I'm thinking the new X (non- plus) this year maybe. This way I'll still have a stellar camera and pretty decent battery life, even though I'm rarely far from a charger in my everyday routine.

For me it’s mainly emails / conference calls & development tools that require immediate attention.

All my devices are setup properly in terms of iMessage etc but my iPhone is literally secondary work tool for me. So yeah it’s difficult when you have to deal with things immediately when you’re out and about.

I'll add that if you have newborn/toddler, one-handed use is almost a necessity. Apple offers a variety of sizes now so hopefully potential buyers will find one that meets their individual needs and use cases.

I can certainly relate to using a phone while carrying a child. Pretty impossible with the Plus device unless you’ve got huge hands.

I've had some health issues this year and am currently using a cane while walking and I think a phone a little easier to handle may be beneficial.

I went from an 8+ to the X and I couldn't be happier. Although I liked the big screen of the Plus, it was not easy to hold. I primarily had used the 4.7" iPhone's anyway. Plus, since I have a IPP to consume media on, the + was just overkill for me.

I have to disagree. Both my wife and I got by. Our kids either waited their turn or we took care of what was necessary and called/texted people back.

But my wife was a stay at home mom until late 2015 and I work for a weekly newspaper. Nothing I do is critical, especially after 5pm or on weekends.

Same reason why I bought the 10. Don’t regret it one bit. I am really loving the OLED, especially Tap to Wake and better colors.
