Why is using your phone one-handed some sort of thing? Is using two hands so you don't break a ~$900 device so horrible?

I have a 5 and a 4s as well. I use them with two hands.

Don't get this "difficult to use with one hand" thing as if that's some desirable quality.

Everyone has different options, wants and needs.

I went from a 6 to a 6 Plus to a 7 to 8 Plus. I now have a X and it is the perfect phone for me. The regular size iPhones are a good size body-wise. The pluses have a great screen size but the body is just too big, especially if you’re going to put it in any kind of decently protective case. The X is the best of both worlds. Not getting rid of this anytime soon.

Absolutely. And if someone should want or need to handle their device single-handedly that's up to them. But being disappointed that a larger size forces two hands or expecting that one should be able to handle "X" device with one hand is a different matter.

If that's truly the want or need, then as you say, the option is there. The iPhone SE would fit the bill here.

Went from a 6 plus to an SE to a 7. It’s the perfect size and I love that I can go all day without a charge with my smart battery case. My only complaint is that I wished Apple had given it 3 gigs of RAM. It’s annoying when you’re flipping through apps and they constantly refresh.

I went from 6 Plus to 6s, back to 7 Plus, and now with a X.

Couldn't resist the larger screen when the iPhone 6/Plus launched. Though I found it unwiedly at times and really got annoyed at not being able to type with a single hand at times.

Year after I switched to the 6s and it really felt amazing in size and being much more pocketable. First thing that felt weird was having a smaller screen when taking and editing photos. I got used to it, but missed the larger screen primarily for that reason.

With the 7 launch I went back to the Plus and loved it again, lol. Biggest annoyance was pocket ability.

Now with the X it feels like such a good size, yet still has what feels like a nice large screen on it. I'm hoping to use it for another year but I know I'm going to be extremely tempted by the X Plus.

Well I went from the 7 plus to the X because the X had the features I wanted and the 8 plus doesn’t. I’m not happy with the smaller screen size and will be upgrading to the X plus. This is the smallest phone I’ve used since 2012.

I actually have an iPhone SE as my secondary device. It is a lot better to use with one hand but doesn’t have the features that the 10 does. For what I use my iPhone SE for is perfect for it. I love how efficient and speedy is on iOS 12 as well. It feels like new.

I went form a 6 plus to a 7 plus to a X and I miss the large screen and big battery :(. The bigger iPhones have a bigger battery too so one does not need to charge their phone so often.

I readily admit, I'm an Apple guy through and through but I have to give praise where praise is due.
Samsung's Galaxy line whether it be the S9+ or the Note 8 feel like the right balance between one-handed use and a XL screen size. While it is tall, the screen design is narrow enough to not feel unwieldy. The features they've implemented to help mitigate the lack of reach to certain parts of the screen indicate that they actually put some thought behind why a consumer would want a larger phone aside from a larger display & larger battery size. Apple's plus sized phones haven't really differentiated them from regular sized phones. I had plus models from 2 years and while I enjoyed using it, I'd always felt Apple could've put some more though behind the design. The X was released and other than the notch, I'm pleased with the result. Hopefully the X+ will offer additional software features & really add to the experience of using a plus sized phone over a "normal" sized X while keeping the overall size narrower than the 8+.

I've had the 6s and went to the 7plus and now the 8 plus, but this year i got a job at sports club ( not a manager but kind of caretaker) and there is alot of walking around involved keeping an eye on the place, I usually had a jacket on so was keeping 8plus in inside pocket, but now since summer I've had to have the phone in pants pocket and I have to say it's annoying with the size and weight, i think the plus is a home phone, i think this year I'll get the new X and the new iPad, the plus really is not suitable or practical for mobile use, especially for people who go out alot for whatever reason.

“Regular size”. The X is a big phone already so anything bigger is just comically big. The Plus version is for Mr Magoo.

Actually, I don’t really find iPhone X to be *that* big. If anything, if feels heavier in the hand because of the stainless steel bands and Glass back. But I find that the 6.5 iPhone X Plus will likely be very popular just because the fact it will have a larger display and larger battery. Two huge selling points for that phone.

I went from a 6S+ to a Google Pixel (non XL) and now I have an iPhone 8 - the Plus models are too big for my front pocket. I prefer the smaller sized - I hate that the Plus models have more camera features like portrait mode.

Went from a 6 Plus for 3 years to the X. Plus was way too big and heavy, even though I loved looking at that huge screen. Honestly the X is still too big and heavy for my needs. Hopefully we get a smaller iPhone at some point.

plus size for me since they came out......have the X now....wont go back to a plus.
same here...portability was key for me and i still have a big screen.

X you are carrying around all screen
Plus= screen plus bezels (extra casing)

had to use my plus last night due to IOS 12 beta on my x crashing it....really hate the plus now.

For me, I like the extra features of the plus models but not enough to sacrifice mobility of the device.

My questions is why can't apple strive to offer the same features on the smaller sized phone?

This was the case with the first plus model. The 6 plus had everything the 6 did but with a bigger screen and it didn’t sell as much as Apple hoped. That’s why this was a strategic movement by Apple to sell more plus models.

Yes I know its a strategic move to upsell the bigger device, but should the gap between the models be so large?
I feel folks which prefer the smaller size phones are kind of getting the short end of the stick when it comes to leading edge features, which I'm more than willing to pay extra money for.

I have to disagree. Both my wife and I got by. Our kids either waited their turn or we took care of what was necessary and called/texted people back.

But my wife was a stay at home mom until late 2015 and I work for a weekly newspaper. Nothing I do is critical, especially after 5pm or on weekends.

Okay, you do realize you're kind of a special use case, no?

Went from the 7 Plus to the iPhone X and have been more than happy that I made this choice. The X fits in my purses or pockets, whereas the large Plus sometimes would fit in a purse, but not usually in a pocket unless the garment had really large ones. I also like that with the X I have the benefit of the larger screen, as opposed to the regular-sized 7 or 8. I will either keep my iPhone X this fall or will get the next version of it, but no more Plus sizes for me!

I feel you. Before getting my 8 Plus I had the same predicament but then just went ahead and bought the plus model. I don’t really watch much video on my phone so didn’t really need the plus model. It’s only useful to me for the battery life and camera features.

I made choices. Those choices determined other choices and they define my priorities. My wife did the same. We share the same priorities and agree for the most part on our choices.

So, if those choices we made and our priorities place us in a special case category, okay.

But it's not like those choices or priorities were or are exclusive only to us. Just other people chose differently and have different priorities.
