The thing is that the new X plus will undoubtedly be heavier with Apple using the L-shaped battery, the 8 plus is 200g i think so you could add another 30g to the x plus, it's one thing being heavy in pocket but this will make the x plus with a case almost 250-260g

I went from a 6S+ to a Google Pixel (non XL) and now I have an iPhone 8 - the Plus models are too big for my front pocket. I prefer the smaller sized - I hate that the Plus models have more camera features like portrait mode.

I agree that I do not find that fair but that’s what Apple does to increase revenue. Now, there’s the 10. Same size as the 8 with a bigger screen and the improved camera. Win-win. Plus iOS 12 made improvements to the cameras.

after using the phone SE am going too get the iphone 8 i like the smaller size of the phone i think the pluse size too big and too wide i think the iphone 8 too be the right size

I used the 7+ for a while but it was broken (camera didn't work and it had a few other bugs. Outside of that, it was flawless) so I grew tired of it and reverted to a standard 6s. Battery life differences are significant but my 6s's performance on iOS 9.3.3 is flawless. I noticed no difference compared to the 7+. I was used to the 7+'s size, I could carry it, so I didn't really care about it being larger.

I’ve been having a + since the 6 (originally got the regular 6 then went to a plus a few months later, and I’ve had one since).

There are things I really love about having the + but my hands are small and it IS difficult (for me) to use one handed.

If you were a + user and have gone back to a smaller phone, why did you, and how satisfied are you with that move?

I still have the 7+ on my backup Verizon MVNO cell plan for road use in areas ATT doesn't cover as well. But I'm not carrying it on my person anymore. It was too big for my shirt pocket, and I broke the belt clip a couple times when I carried it for over a year. The X fits in shirt pocket (though not as well as my 4 did :)

At this point, I have no desire for a rumored X + model.

I actually have an iPhone SE as my secondary device. It is a lot better to use with one hand but doesn’t have the features that the 10 does. For what I use my iPhone SE for is perfect for it. I love how efficient and speedy is on iOS 12 as well. It feels like new.

The SE would be a better backup phone for me than my 7+, but I'm not going to buy it just to replace my 7+. I'm trying to avoid buying any new iPhone until they support B71 and B14 (for flexibility of carrier choice).

Was a Pixel XL user, then Pixel 2 standard... Herself has my P2 now and I've picked up an iPhone 8. My hands thanked me going from PXL to P2, and I don't even think about the 8+ when I flipped back to iPhone a few months back.

I'm always taken with the idea of the larger device, but having used Nexus 6P for a long while, there's no way I could go back to using something that feels like it needs a backpack to carry it around, and which only fits in pockets on a pair of MC Hammer's pants!

I've not made the switch from large to small, but I've used my daughter's 7+ quite a bit. I see the attraction if using apps is a priority for the user. But for me, I use my SE as a phone and for texting. I have a running app and Google Maps app. That's it. I know I'm a minority. The only time the smaller screen is an issue is with voicemail because I can't figure out how to get the damn voicemail-to-text thing to go away. Anyone with a solution to the voicemail text, I'll gladly write you into my will. :)

My iPhone 6 plus crapped out a couple of months ago, and I'm thinking about going to an 8 instead of the 8 plus.

I went from 5 to 6+ and then the 6s+. When the 6+ was announced, it was a dream come true for me. I always found the iPhone to be too small until that time and I was about to switch to bigger android phone before apple reveal their new sized phone. Since then, I just loved it. The screen and battery life is perfect. Nothing to compare with the smaller phone with poor battery life. I never used, and never understand the need to use a phone one handed. If I'm too busy, I just leave my phone in my pocket and take it when I can. Just that simple.

The only downside I can agree, its true that the plus size is not fitting well in all pants pocket and sometime, it could be inconfortable with some pants and I have to be sure the pockets are big enough when I bought new ones because of this. But other than that, I'll never go back and thats why I was never interested with the new iPhone X, but likely will with new X plus models.

And then add a case that someone will use on top of that for the added weight, but I don’t think it will stop someone from purchasing a phone that large. If you look at the shift in the market, a good number of consumers want larger phones today simply because of the larger display and bigger battery. I think the trade-off is you have to expect with a larger is the added weight, but that is the sacrifice of wanting a larger display.

When the 6 came out, i ran a plus for a couple of weeks and went back to a regular 6.

They're too small to be a tablet, and overly large and inconvenient to be a phone.

IMHO, if you want only ONE device they might be a reasonable "cover both bases" compromise, but if you have a tablet as well i don't see the point.

No, no plans to go back.

Why is using your phone one-handed some sort of thing? Is using two hands so you don't break a ~$900 device so horrible?

I have a 5 and a 4s as well. I use them with two hands.

Don't get this "difficult to use with one hand" thing as if that's some desirable quality.

Being able to use with one hand leaves my other hand to do such things as:
  • taking a sip of coffee/holding a coffee cup whilst waiting for something outside (e.g., in line, etc.)
  • holding something to take a photo of
  • opening a door whilst walking and using the device
  • holding onto a grab handle in a car/bus/etc.
  • flipping people off
  • etc.
loss of ability to use one-handed on the plus size phones, for what?

Slightly bigger screen, that isn't really big enough to do stuff the regular size can't?
Marginally better battery life?

Also, the non-plus size phones fit better in pockets...

I am not a klutz. But I am also not capable of doing more than one thing at a time.

None of the things you describe would be anything I risk dropping my phone over. It would be in my pocket for all of that. Maybe a quick check of things in line, but not if I am holding something, unless I ask my wife to hold it for a moment or set it down. I don't have much of a life outside of work or home.

As to pockets…I wear cargo pants mostly. Plenty of large size pockets.

I get that other people use their phones differently and have different priorities. But that just doesn't work for me.

Completely agree with you but my 8 Plus won me over for battery life and the camera.

I think a few years back probably 90% of us thought that with the size screens of say the 5.5 plus and the 4.7 16:9 display ratio that Apple would keep these size screens and make the phones smaller around that screen size, i mean Samsung done this for a couple of years but has gone big again, I mean in fairness the plus size would be OK if they just made it smaller while sticking to that screen size, now we have a plus coming out that is the same as the current plus with a 6.5 screen, it just doesn't make sense.
[doublepost=1531429077][/doublepost]I really think if there was proper thought put into the plus it could be the best selling of all the iPhones, don't care what anyone thinks there could be 25mm taken off the length of the plus bottom and top bezels and 2-3mm off the width and you could still have a 5.5 16:9 display, that would make the plus size around 135mm x 76mm, In fairness it is possible to have a plus with those dimensions

That would be my perfect phone, along with dual SIM option - a 5-5.5” display with 16:9 ratio with no bezels.

And that's fair enough. But that's my explanation as to why i feel one handed use is important/relevant. Which you initially claimed you didn't understand.

I'm willing to run the risk of dropping it to do these things.

None of those reasons also describe me either above mentioned, and your one of the only few that I know that actually set their phone down without a case on a soft surface, as do I. Its Like a force of habit with a larger phone, where I won’t set my phone down on a hard surface or it just stays in my pocket. The only downside for me carrying a larger phone, is I don’t like having the added bulk book in my pocket, and I find myself leaving it more stationary in other spots.

Will always have an iPad. Give me the smallest phone, please. SE is a great phone, fits everywhere.

When I read these rumors that Apple will kill the SE and iPad mini, I feel like: “Does Apple hate me specifically?”

Tim: quit hating me! Keep the 5 and the mini. If the 5 goes away, I will buy old ones until they don’t work, then I will buy some cheap small off-brand phone for call, and use an iPad for most stuff. NEVER going to buy a large screen phone. Never.
[doublepost=1531479352][/doublepost]To answer the question: Yes! Got a 6, used it for a year, sold it happily when the SE came out. 6 was TOO BIG! Apple customer service...are you listening?

Which you initially claimed you didn't understand.
No, I didn't claim that. I understand why people use their phones one-handed and why they want to.

The fact that people still do this and that it's a desirable quality, despite the pricetag of the phone, is what I don't understand.

A ~$900 phone is enough for me to handle it with two hands and take other actions to protect it, even if one-handed is convenient at the time.

In the past I had. I had the iPhone 6+. I had gotten it for the improved camera and slightly longer battery life. But day to day use just highlighted how big it was for me. I considered going for the 6, but I ended up using my 5S and getting an SE instead when those came out. Currently Im on the X and the size is ok, but I actually wouldnt mind something smaller.

My perfect phone would be the shape and design of the SE, no protruding camera, and the bezel size of the X.
