I'm sure there are other factors at play as well, but if you're in a place where most people just can't afford the iPhone X, then you're not going to see many of them.

I'm surprised they haven't done better in the UK. Around here, 7's and 8's are still far more prevalent, but given how many of those there are, I still see plenty of X's around. I also live in a relatively wealthy state, so that probably helps too. I can spot a X across the room now because of the notch, which was clearly part of the design....
I haven’t a clue if they’ve done well here or not, I’m just guessing really as I have seen no more than 2 in all my travels around the country. I do know it got quite a critical reception here due to its cost and iPhone 8 marketing seems more prevalent in my experience.

None of my friends or associates have an X despite the iPhone being the dominant brand and affording it is not the issue. Perhaps it doesn’t quite have the appeal is does elsewhere?

Wow. That's actually really interesting. I'm in a room with a dozen and a half people nearish to New York City and there's at least a couple of X's in this room. I see them almost everywhere I go. So far, out of my friends who are mostly on Android, one already has a X. I thought other developed/first world/relatively affluent countries would be the same. I wonder if the exchange rate and pricing put a damper on them?

New York is a big city, I would expect that you would see more iPhone X units in your area. Perhaps somebody for that lives in a smaller city, its likely not as prevalent, which could be based on where someone is to actually take notice of the X. (I.e Malls, Airports, ect).

Yes I see them a lot in London on my commute into work. I live outside London. I’ve seen an X 6 times in the town that I live in. However I will say as I’ve been going out less into the town centre then numbers might have been higher.

I should clarify, I'm in the 'burbs ~45 miles away. I live farther away. I see them all over the place in Connecticut.

True I don’t mingle with gadget obsessed people. But generally after the launch of a new iPhone you start seeing them when out and about, shopping, in coffee shops, in restraurants etc. Haven’t seen a single X yet.
Perhaps us X owners aren't about shoving it into peoples faces and just using it. I can't explain it, when I'm wondering around our (shared) office space I see lots in use by people. Perhaps London City/Shoreditch is different (don't answer that :p).

It is my inner nerd to notice sometimes what type of phone someone has riding the bus and train here in Seattle.

I haven’t seen anyone with an X in the wild other than one other person. I just found that a little interesting. Has anyone else noticed that?
I agree. I noticed the same; hardly anyone I see around me, random observation, has the X. I see more of 6 and 7 over 8 and X. I'm certain it has to do with costs.

Sounds like the increasing reality of more people holding on to their phones longer (as mobile technology has been becoming more mature in the last few years) is playing a role in all of it as well.

True, I have a friend who told me he didn't upgrade to the 7/8/X because his phone can pretty much do the same thing those can and he didn't see the point for a few extra BS features (quoting a friend lol). I assume he was referring to animoji lol.

Well my mum is getting the iphone x on monday. No doubt be the day where I have to show her how it all works coming from the iphone 6.

might take a while for her to get used to gestures and face ID over touch ID

Attended four hours worth of training earlier this morning and in a room full (30 Plus individuals) with almost all iPhones, none of them actually appeared to be an iPhone X. They were primarily all iPhone 7’s and 6S’s.

Had a relo turn up for the weekend last night, another X in the house, didn't have to go far to see another one.
Dime a dozen.

Just back from a kids soccer game saw another couple, very common now.

I went out to my daughters dance awards night last night and they were absolutely everywhere. When the kids were doing their dance routine on stage all the screens could be seen from proud parents filming their darlings and the notches were clearly visible. It’s not surprising though as at the bar if you bought 2 pints of Strongbow and a packet of pork scratchings, you got an iPhone X and an EE unlimited contract absolutely free. They were piling up on tables at one point as parents were on between 5 and 7 rounds of drinks. I just hadn’t realised how popular they were until then. Ten a penny.

Still haven't seen more than I guess around 20 iPhone X since launch. No one at work has them and no one in my family has any interest in buying one after looking at the price. What's horrifying me his year is that Apple is going to gimp the LCD iPhone and the iPhone X Plus will launch at $1300 for the 64GB variant. Outrageous honestly but I need that bigger screen. I think I will have to trade in my iPhones from hereon in instead of using them as hand me downs as the rest of the family isn't interested in FaceID or bezelless phones at all.

My "techy" friends have a mixture of iPhone 8's and X's.

Overall I don't see the X that often. Not because the people I know don't want the X but just because they don't care. Their current iPhone is working fine for them or at least fine for their standards.

I see iphone x all the time in the wild. At my job I there are about 11 people with one. So I see them all the time.

The notch is hidden during video though..

Two work colleagues have upgraded their iPhones this week. Both previously had the iPhone 6.

One went with an iPhone 7 and the other with the iPhone 7 Plus. Price was the big influencing factor in both cases - both said they could and would have spent more, but they didn’t see the point when the 7 and 8 are virtually identical once put into cases. Both said the X was flat-out overpriced in terms of the upfront and monthly payments on contract.
