As awesome as that is, and as much as I'd love have one, I bet it costs the earth.

Congrats! :D

I've managed to push myself to 7 miles biking the other day. It's still not as much as I'd like, but I'm getting back there. I'm starting to get to the point where doing cardio feels good again, rather than wearing me straight out after 5 minutes.
Thanks.

Sounds like you are making good progress. Be patient. And before you know it, you will be doing 10+ miles. :)

from 194lbs to 183lbs in about 20 days just by fixing my diet. No sport so far. I will go back doing boxing probably this Friday 6AM, and I plan to start doing martial arts again in a week or two depending on a few factors. I need to bring this belly down...

Got in a 11 mile run this morning (not counting the hill repeats that I did for about 40 minutes). Saw 4 deer while on the trail. One of them looked to be a week or two old at the most. Always enjoy seeing God's handiwork with nature. Have 13 miles planned for tomorrow morning and 19 - 20 Saturday morning.

Got my 17 mile run in this morning. It was very humid and cloudy most of the run. Towards the end, the sky cleared and a light breeze followed.

Somewhere around mile 14.25?, a good looking lady ran up next to me and struck up a conversation. She had noticed me at the park a lot and was curious if I was in training. She was impressed with my pace. Told her I was training for an ultra marathon. She introduced herself and we had a nice conversation for the next 1.25 miles (or so), until I bowed out as my run was done. It was a very nice way to end my running day. :D

Can you say where your ultra will be, I used to be a competitive ultra runner and enjoyed the challenge.

The one that I am keeping an eye on (date wise) is in Canton, Georgia. It is one of those 6, 12, or 24 hr ultras on a 1 mile trail loop. My goal is 100 miles in 24hrs. The other one that I am giving thought to, is in Blairsville, Georgia (The Cruel Jewell 100) and has 33,000 feet of gain and descent through the Chattahoochee National Forest. That race has a 48 hour time limit and is in May, 2017.

Before going to the gym this morning I had one espresso, not because I needed or wanted the caffeine kick, but because I had time to make one and wanted one. After I was at the gym and hopped on the elliptical I could feel sluggish and my legs didn't want to push very hard. Then after several minutes I had this burst of energy that hit me! The espresso had kicked in and the 160mg of caffeine from one doppio really paid off. You can really see on the heart rate graph from my FitBit when that happened.

Did 21 miles this morning. Ended the week with 69.4 miles. Legs felt good in spite of quads being a little sore from doing hill repeats on Wednesday. Set new PR's (personal record) for the 10 mile, half marathon, and 30K distances this morning. Didn't know that until my run was done. The splits for miles 13 through 21 were faster than the first 12 miles, which I was pleased with, even though I ran a little faster (heart rate zone wise) than I intended to.

Wore a new pair of Altra Repetition this morning. The stack height is much higher with that model, than the Altra Provision 2.0 which I usually wear. I could really tell a difference during the run, as well as after. My legs feel more refreshed than if I had run in the latter model. I will save the Altra Repetition for Saturday long run.

If any of you have never tried Altra running shoes, I encourage you to give them a try. They feature zero drop and a wide (foot form) toe box, that allows your toes to splay out naturally, giving you more comfort and power during your run. The shoes also help promote good running form.

@Huntn, in the 1st post of this thread you mention wanting to lose about 30 lbs. Have you accomplished that goal? If not, how are things going in your pursuit?

Sadly, altough I'm now spending 4.5 hrs per week swimming, have no idea how many calories that represents (50 laps, 75M pool, 22,500M, if my figuring right 14 miles/week) my weight loss is about 5 lbs with improvement in my physic. o_O Thoughts?

We are all different and although swimming is great for you, I think high intensity cardio is the best recipe for weight loss if that's your goal. Swimming can build a lot of muscle in which case you shouldn't rely so much on the scale alone.

All I can credibly speak about is my personal weight loss journey. I found that I was able to lose weight more effectively by controlling my diet as opposed to using exercise. I followed a simple and natural eating plan that required eating certain daily servings of proteins, fruits, vegetables, and starches along with drinking 80 oz of water daily. With this plan I was able to lose significant weight. I am very active now, primarily racquetball multiple times a week, but my weight will still fluctuate depending primarily on my diet. I can answer more specific questions if you have them.

Got in a 13 mile run after work today. I haven't run in the afternoon for a long time (since I was a noobie). It was about 13 degrees hotter than my usual morning time run, along with the high humidity. Not my best run. I could tell as soon as I got going, that it was going to be one of those runs you just have to push through. It was certainly that. Tomorrow I can run first thing in the morning. Hopefully, it will be a much better run. On the bright side, i saw 4 deer and almost stepped on a snake as it was crossing the trail right as I was coming by. At first I thought it was a Copperhead. Once I got a better look, I saw that it was just water snake covered in red dirt.

If budget allows, it would be a good idea to wear a heart rate monitor while you exercise. That way you will know for sure how many calories you are burning etc. There are a lot of variables involved with burned calorie calculation. As such, you aren't going to burn the same amount every time, even though you may do the same distance each day.

In addition to the aforementioned, I would also suggest getting a food scale and weighing everything. That will give you a more exact idea of how many calories you are consuming each day. And if you use an app like MyFitnessPal, make sure you double check the food listing as a lot of them are wrong. And the app is also bad about overcalculating calories burned during exercise, when it is linked to an exercise device.

Make sure not to eat back all your burned calories, when you are tallying up your total meal calories for the day, lest you find yourself not making any progress or worse, gaining weight due to wrong calculations or data.

Another runner here. I run 10kms every 2 days with my dog. It really has changed my life and hurt my knee but I can live with that.
What kind of knee problem are you having?

Actually if anything since starting swimming, I'm not as careful about my diet, although I'm not over eating, I am eating more stuff that is not considered good for you such as deserts. I need to notch that back.

It seems to come on after the first 5k or so. It feels mechanical. Gets aggravated when I twist my body to one side as if I were trying to rotate it
If you press your finger in the groove on the outside of your knee, is it painful? Do you feel a dull twinge in the knee when walking down stairs?

When did this first occur and how long has it been going on?

I don't feel anything when touching it or when walking down stairs. Came out of the blue in October during a run and it hurt bad enough that I nearly threw up and sweated rather excessively. Took a week off, got better and slowly disappeared. Over the winter I ran less, then I got back into it in February and up until last month I ran sidewalks in my town and it came back. Now I can only do trails. I think my shoes might some something to do with as well.

What kind of shoes have you been wearing? Do you log how many miles you have run in them?

Are you a heel striker, mid-foot, or forefoot runner?
