i think i bricked it.

i tried fixing it using ibrikr.

what happened is..

i jailbreaked my iphone, and then decided i needed more music on it then there was. it was synced with a friends library, so i wanted to wipe it and sync it with my own. i tried to sync and got the errror "the disk could not be read from or written to" so i decided to restore factory settings. i got an error, and the iphone went into recovery mode. i tried restoring firmware 1.1.1 (what it was before all this happened), i tried to "restore and update" and i tried restoring to 1.0.2 as most tutorials recommend. nothing ever works, i always get an error and the iphone stays in recovery mode

PLEASE HELP!

Restore and update to 1.1.2 and then do the downgrade and update thing.

Which part gives an error? And what error?

after it "prepares for restore" (which takes a REALLY long time) it says

"the iphone "iphone" cannot be restored. An unknown error has occurred (1604)."

hmmm...im unsure of what im supposed to be doing.

it says to double click the ipsw file, which i do. it makes my iphone load the apple logo, and brings up itunes, which gives me the same "iphone is in recovery mode, needs to be restored blah blah" message. i click ok, and i dont know if i should be waiting or click the restore button.

i waited for like 60 seconds and nothing seemed to happen, so i clicked the restore button and it gives error 1603

i have had this before just make it into recovery mode do this click and hold the sleep/wake and home button until the screen goes black, let go of the sleep/wake button and keep holding the home button until itunes says its in recovery mode and restore it worked for me hope it works for you :D

its been in recovery mode. thats how my problem started. it wont restore. thats in my first post.

and. if it makes any difference.

its a picture of the usb cable and an arrow pointing up from it to the itunes logo.

not the yellow triangle that i often read about.

see if you can get iphuc to kick it out of recovery mode, then do restore and update.

The commands to try are:
cmd setenv auto-boot true
cmd saveenv
cmd fsboot

on a mac: http://code.google.com/p/iphuc/

on windows: http://code.google.com/p/iphucwin32/

Then just run it by clicking on the file, no need to use command prompt, it will open a command prompt type interface, but you don't need to open it in command prompt

any luck yet?:)

Polishmacusers method is what I did as well when I had this happen. Perhaps try it again?
