Didn't say 'it just works' - I said that *eventually* it worked, after trying for ages. Pretty crap that it didn't work first time but at least it doesn't require a trip to the Apple Store or anything.
I wasn't referring to you. I was saying in general.

Do you have a fanboy identity complex? :D

Mine finally worked. I would keep trying the store & I finally got a connection. The upgrade is finished & I am back in business. Whew.

My iPhone was finally updated, activated, and resynced! :D

I'm just really glad to see that at least there were others having the problem as well. Nice to have a little support. Thanks for all the posts guys. Helps keep some sanity during this whole fiasco.

DJClay...

Exact same problem.

My mum's iPhone was still on 1.1.3, so I upgraded to 1.1.4 first as it told me to. Now, there's no service/reception (I'm UK) on her iPhone and it has the same, Slide for Emergency screen. Argh! She'll eat me.

I imagine Apple's activation iTunes server is getting a battering. I hope things will be better soon.

Exact same thing happened to me. Click all of your itunes apps on the left side of your screen, then keep clicking back and forth between those and the iphone on the left side. It worked for me, i was having the same error and now i am safely restored with everything how I left it earlier with the beta of 2.0.

Stay calm

Right. You can still buy stuff, like music and apps and videos for your iPhone. You just can't use your iPhone that you've already paid for, and are paying usage charges for.

That's new... My regular -9838 message from iTunes has changed to a -4 message when it fails...

I tried restoring again and I've twice had the error message that it can't access itunes store but I've kept the phone attached this time, it's been there for ages now (i think about an hour)

Yep - got in about 10:59am EST (just before the west coast started to try to activate).

Finally, after trying many times, I got my mine to connect and reactivate. It's synching now.

This is really a major snafu on Apple's part, trying to do a MobilMe and iPhone 2.0 rollout internationally, all simultaneously. I guess "Phased Deployment" is not in the Apple Dictionary.

Finally was able to re-activate my phone after downloading 2.0. Upgraded my phone and now all kinds of bugs.

I would suggest to wait on upgrading as it needs to be patched.

Aside from not being able to use my phone for 1 and 1/2 hours because of the itunes failure to connect. Screen freezes, having to hard reset. Touching the top of the screen reacting as if I clicked on an object on the bottom. etc...

Servers Are Down...

Hey All...

I just got off of the phone with Apple Iphone Tech support (3:00pm EST) and was told by the tech support that Apple has shut down their servers until they can fix the problem. He told me that they have been down a few hours and unsure when they are going to be up and running - I was told to try later.

Your probably in the same shoes as I am in...upgraded Itunes, than downloaded the 2.0 upgrade - problem is that now that the servers are down, there is no way for the phone to actually activate the 2.0 which is done through your iPhone connection to the Itunes store - unrelated to the Itunes Store icon alone.

You can activate your 2.0 at any computer that you have an account so if your like me, and about to leave the office, you'll be able to activate it at home.

This could have easily been avoided by having the 2.0 upgrade earlier this week...good planning Apple! Your not running this this company out of your parents garage anymore - a trained monkey could have seen this coming - how could you guys have missed this?

Stuck on "Preparing iPhone for restore..."

I was able to connect to iTunes store, download update 2.0, and backup the phone. Go team.

Now it is stuck on "Preparing for iPhone restore..." and my phone is stuck on the icon that means "plug your phone into iTunes" even though it IS plugged into iTunes. Whatever shall I do?

If this is you too.... You are not alone!

Sad and happy all wrapped into one. But more the other.

On the bright side...

you can go waste time waiting on your iPhone to restore by getting a free slurpee at 7/11. Look for the silver lining! ;)

(Trust me, this whole thing angers me as much as it does the rest of you!)
