Can you get me one too? 🙃Great! I'll be sure to swing on by and pick up an Aston Martin today after work.

I have never had it lock up my screen, it has crashed though and when it crashes it is immediately at the default screen for the display.Actually, it's a huge deal, especially if it controls your driving displays.
I've seen CarPlay freeze quite a few times. You notice the map hasn't advanced for a while because the connection is completely iced. The only way to reset it is to dig into the phone settings and reconnect, an operation you should definitely not be trying while driving. This is merely a pain if you need nav instructions, but dangerous if it impacts your driving displays or if you attempt to fiddle with your phone to fix it.
No carmaker will want to turn over control of their driving displays to a system that could bug out at any time. Apple would not want any part of such a thing either.
What do you think is missing for apps? The ones that work for me make sense, navigation and apps for listening to audio content like radio station apps, audio books, music etc. Not sure what other app I would need to work on a display in my car while moving.any changes to the old carplay versions?
When will they allow us to play media (when parked) ?
And their awful tight grip on what apps they allow in carplay really devalues the whole system
Volvo has integrated Google in their infotainment system few years back, just like Apple wants to do now. Default map in Volvo cars is Google Maps. (Instead of Volvo’s own like before)I don't see anything in this article which would show "Google [and Amazon are] way ahead on this" [infiltrating other car brands].
This is one I've never seen. Mine just goes completely unresponsive from time to time. I suspect this depends on the car and the OS it is running underlying CarPlay. So it could be blamed on the carmaker, for whatever good that does for a driver. And either way not good enough for taking over driving displays. The other issue I see quite a bit is the amount of time it takes to establish the connection. Sometimes it's almost immediate. Other times, I can drive a block before the CarPlay UI appears. Again, not good enough.I have never had it lock up my screen, it has crashed though and when it crashes it is immediately at the default screen for the display.
While agree it is not a good thing to deal with while driving, if it does not hinder or stop you from operating your vehicle safely you can pull over and fix it, there is literally no good reason why you would need to fiddle with it while driving.
In my current vehicle which is a Toyota, does not lock up during CarPlay. It does have a problem with connecting in the beginning. Some times it works fantastic and some times it’s hard to get it to connect. But this is not an apple problem I think. It’s the vehicle that is doing it.I have never had it lock up my screen, it has crashed though and when it crashes it is immediately at the default screen for the display.

Elon Musk becoming Apple's CEO is nightmare fuel.I wish Tesla would stop being so stubborn and adopt CarPlay but Elon has still an axe to grind with Apple because they wouldn’t let him become CEO. I wonder what Apple would have been like with Elon as CEO.
Almost! Actually, there is not a setting that controls this. Google Maps always shows in the upper screen UNLESS you are using CarPlay AND you have asked Apple Maps to navigate you somewhere. In that situation, Apple Maps takes over the upper map screen. When you end navigation, Google Maps returns to the upper screen. If you are running Apple Maps, but not actively using it for navigation, Apple Maps will only show in the lower screen. So you have a Google Map up top and an Apple Map below. One amazing thing that you have in your car is something that many people have not discovered yet. In settings you can set the map display in the driver screen to change from Google Maps to Apple Maps. One of the few cars that can do that.
I am thinking about getting a 2025 navigator. Lincoln has not announced anything about it yet, but the internet doesn’t wait. The spy shots are already out there. It’s going to have the same scene system that you have but just bigger because the navigation is so much wider.
Hope you’re enjoying your new car!!
Borg ui reminds me of Winamp. And that’s a good thing.View attachment 2358672
Pffftftt, LCARS is old skool, lets Borg it up. I don't know how fast I am going but this is all I have ever wanted. Is Seven the in car assistant? I'd pay extra for that!
Can't wait for this, instrument panels are awful and should be customizable.
mainly highway info. there is a local app here in the EU that alerts you of traffic hazards etc. always having it running on the phone but a carplay app would be great. they said apple won't approve their carplay submission. What do you think is missing for apps? Highway info is there in navigation apps if they support. Here in Canada I use Waze and I am warned of everything from train tracks, slow moving traffic, dead animals in the road, red light cameras, police, and so on. Waze is not the only one that offers this either.mainly highway info. there is a local app here in the EU that alerts you of traffic hazards etc. always having it running on the phone but a carplay app would be great. they said apple won't approve their carplay submission.
But I would also like VLC player or YouTube to listen to my playlists and to watch things when I am waiting somewhere while parked.
Screen-mirroring in landscape mode would also be cool.
There is so much that could be done with. But no
the fact that apple decides if an app is allowed to have a carplay app is just absurd.
I am not a Google user, and I never want to be one. I won’t get a google account. I won’t be “logging in” to my car with google. I refuse to be data-collected by google. My new 2024 Lincoln Nautilus has most of the things described in this article. It is all powered by Google. And that doesn't mean Android Auto running from my phone. The car itself has an Android-powered interface in a lower control screen and the 48" wide panoramic display screen across the dashboard. Google Maps is embedded on the top screen along with 3 widgets (Media, Clock, Weather, Fuel Efficiency, Tire Pressure, Trip Odometer, etc.) at a time and also the core driving-related elements directly in front of the driver. It also allows you to use CarPlay (or Andoid Auto), if you desire. I use CarPlay for Music (projecting the graphics up to the media widget) and Messages, Calendar, Podcasts, etc. I leave the CarPlay Apps screen on my lower screen full time. I can say "Hey Google, raise the temperature in the car". I haven't bothered to see what else I can command Google to do yet. But, I love how this all looks and works so far.
If Apple can get some of these manufacturers to do what Google has done for Lincoln, then it will be a good thing, I think. But Google seems to have a jump on them in doing so.
I can install apps to the car using the Google Play store. Waze, for example, would run from the car's installation. Not installed on my phone.
Only three car manufacturers that don’t have CarPlay. Tesla, Rivian, and GM electric vehicles.Just wish Elon would get on board… sure miss CarPlay in my Tesla.
No CarPlay, no purchase.
