it will sell out within hours or even faster because its a product launch and with apple products maybe scalpers will try their luck, long term demand Is something different... at the end apple will never admit an flop, we will only see if it is a flop when product cycles takes a long time.

I don’t get the “it needs to be lighter and slimmer” comments… it’s lighter and slimmer than most headsets, but those don’t get the same criticisms and still aren’t called “flops”.
Same laughable criticism about the external battery. I don’t necessarily want the battery on my face. I want a hot-swappable battery, different battery capacity options (maybe 3rd party solutions), and a way to use it while plugged in if I need to use it longer than the battery life. I don’t want that extra heat on my face. These all seem like great design decisions for the Vision Pro.

If that long. I would not be surprised if they are hard to find after a week or two. After two months I would suspect one would have to pay a premium to buy them on eBay.

I might even consider buying a couple and not even opening the box with the intention of reselling them within a few months for profit
Good luck getting Apple, the only one around, to just sell you a few of them.

As a dev from Canada, I plan to fly in and grab a unit. I just need to pick a city from this gorgeous country. I‘ve seen the East and West too many times so I‘ll aim for the Center or South. Or, is there a store in Anchorage??

Apparently there is an Apple store in the mall in Anchorage. Have fun!

It’s ridiculous how simple-minded some opinions here are. The Vision Pro will not flop, this isn’t even the consumer version. There are too many tech enthusiasts and show-offs who will buy this. Apple knows this. Apple’s intention is to get people excited about the Vision line of devices and get them accustomed to this type of price point. Apple is not selling you an Oculus, they’re establishing a new computer-level hardware platform, and we should be excited for this, whether it flops or succeeds. If anything, some of this tech will trickle down to the Macbook, iPad, iPhone, etc.

The goal of this iteration of the Vision Pro is to demonstrate this tech publicly and get development for it rolling, so that everything will be ready when the more entry-level, mass-produced Vision line drops. This intention is obvious since they named this one the Vision Pro, lol.

(This reminds me of the iPad and Apple Watch, which were fun toys in their first generation but showed their true power in the iPad 2 and the Apple Watch 3/4.)

Interesting to know more about the store displays. Will take some time before it is available in other countries. Might even happen only in 2025

I can’t wait to see this technology develop. Obviously everyone wants the hardware to become as light and as powerful as is reasonably possible over time.

The price is also a factor, so it’ll be interesting to see that aspect evolve. Maybe it’ll never come down in price, but I agree that there will likely be a non-Pro variant, so that will have to be less expensive.

I’m very curious what will be the killer app features. Will people want this more for multi-screen work or more for immersive media consumption?

They had my attention when I learned of movies being available in 3D. I know the PSVR for the PS4 had 3D, but that required 3D Blu-rays, which are almost non-existent at this point. Here, you can simply watch something from iTunes or I assume Disney+ that will offer a 3D version for the AVP.

Like others have said, this version of the Vision Pro is for testing purposes. Developers can try new things and see what sticks with the early adopters. By version 2 or 3, we’ll start to see a clearer future for this device.

A lot of people don’t even know this is coming, since the majority of people out there don’t watch Apple’s keynotes. Apple will need to pull out all the stops to ensure that when this launches, people are talking about it.

This is going to be the biggest product flop ever. Mark my words.
Nah this is the future of tech how we see it. This is just the start of this category. It will in the end build to glasses the tech will then only go to strength to strength. this first gen isn't for most people but it will sure sell quickly given the amount they will sell.

apple have spent too much on this to fail. first gen shouldn't be the measurement on it's success due to the volume and price.

Sounds to me like it will only be sold at Apple at first, and not at third-parties like Best Buy. Just based on the speculation that an Apple Store employee would need to advise you about sizings, etc.
Yeah there won't be enough produced to sell anywhere else imo.

won't be available here in UK until late 2024 so guess we will see how good it from US buyers and reviewers. one thing is for sure all we will see all people talk about is vision pro when it's out. nothing else will matter

i do think there is a future for these headsets and i'm not just talking about apple. mixed reality headsets could replace smartphones. not entirely but there is potential for them to be the next big thing.

it just won't happen any time soon. this headset is super expensive and 99% of people should NOT buy one. apple is already working on the 2nd gen model so this just feels like apple is wanting to get something out the door to get the ball rolling. the only people who should get one are developers, fanboys, and people with more money than sense.

personally i don't think i'll buy a 2nd gen headset. maybe not even 3rd. once the technology improves and matures then i'll jump in. most people are going to want to wait until we get an SE model. my first Apple Watch was the 2020 SE and i didn't even keep that long. S9 is the first Watch i've been happy with. I did have the OG iPad but it sucked. I didn't get another iPad until 2021.

So yeah wake me up when we're in 2030.

If you think of this as a headset, you're already incorrect. This is a full-throttle computer for your face; completely new and different animal.

The iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch are not full-throttle computers, you already don't expect them to perform at the same level as a laptop or desktop. The Vision Pro can operate at that level — making it a completely different animal. That's why it's $3500.

Yes the 2-hour battery life is atrocious — it will improve. I'm unhappy with many of the design decisions in the Vision Pro, but I understand the product vision.

You have to remember this is only v.1. In a few years, the price will come down and the unit will not be so bulky. Meanwhile, I'm waiting to see what the Apple stock will do when product is released (the Apple stock is almost at a 52 week high, again).

This is not a neglected hobby like ATV, Siri or HomeKit. They are fully aware this must become a success as their entire reputation as a premium tech innovator depends on it. I guess within 12 months they will announce a successor and soon after a cheaper model.
EVEN IF it flops in sales. apple has basically stopped reporting sales and will group this and another product together to hide poor sales.

why will they do this.... Well its like you said.. THEY HAVE no choice they will make a gen 2 and a gen 3 even. Giving it the impression that it is a hot seller and people are buyin git. Do it enough and it might take off that way.

I have to agree. And I have a pretty good track record at calling these things. I thought Apple Watch and AirPods Max would be a success because they're status symbols and easy to show off (although AirPods Max took a while to get there, it's very popular now). I thought HomePod would flop because there's better speakers at that price point and Siri sucks. I said foldable phones would flop, and that seems to be panning out.
Until Apple makes a foldable iPhone.

I wonder if Apple will eventually implement a feature that detects the faces of children and blocks them out of using the device. I can imagine someone is going to allow their toddler to play with this thing for way too long and ruin their vision or brain development, maybe even their inner ear balance. Imaging getting vertigo in the real world but feeling fine in the virtual one. I would imagine people are going to be ready to sue to stop them from allow full access to kids under a certain age after seeing what iPads have already done to a generation of childrens development.

Your objectivity is 20/20.

Spoken in the true spirit of Henry Ford. There is a method to the madness and a logical process.

At least you know what kind of consumer you are?
