It will of course sell out. Apple is great about limiting supply to the available demand.

However, the return rate (which Apple will never admit to) will be astronomical. The added limitation of buying them in stores, is likely to help address this. Sell it only to people who really really want it, and not just to people who can afford it.

Having owned 4 different VR headsets, there is just a limit to how much time you are going to want to be wearing it. Within 2 weeks people will be putting them in a drawer. It doesn't "do" anything that you can't do with a combination of other devices. Everyone who buys this is already going to have an iPhone + watch + MacBook + iPad.

I think Meta is closer to the first break through device with the AI powered sunglasses. It will take a decade for the tech to arrive to enable a truly mass market Vision Pro.

I’m not sure why this display is very shocking since it looks basically identical to the current Apple Watch display.

Anyways, I think this thing is going to have slightly disappointing sales after the release window but the product category will pick up later. I really think this is the first genuine useful attempt at this class for anything but games. The price needs to come down and battery life needs to go way up.

Even the Quest Pro had awful fuzzy text that hurt your eyes, a horrible problem for a productivity device to have. Reviewers were talking about taking notes on their iPhone through the passthrough camera on the VP. That’s a game changer in clarity for both the screens and the pass through.

Those 400,000 units will likely sell out in the first two months. People are underestimating how well this thing will sell.
They’ll be bought to brag about purchasing power “baby, come to my place and see the new iDevice” or to leave it sealed and try to sell it in a few years as a rarity

It’s the beginning of a new dimension in computing
Might be slow to adapt to
(Price wise) but as it progresses and prices go down there will be adapters

You really can’t judge how other people will use this. People aren’t spending 3500 for it to be used for a few weeks then in a draw. This potentially will be able to do tasks far better than any of the current products. Maybe for some it will completely replace their ipad for a lot of the tasks during the day. Granted those who take theirs away on trips will need a fair few battery packs to last but I can certainly see using this a lot during the day. Not that I’m likely getting this anytime soon but I can see a use case where it’s worth checking out.

You dream general. It will be interesting to see how many are put in drawers or returned after the novelty wears off

People always doubt Apple's expensive launches and they always succeed.

I have to agree. And I have a pretty good track record at calling these things. I thought Apple Watch and AirPods Max would be a success because they're status symbols and easy to show off (although AirPods Max took a while to get there, it's very popular now). I thought HomePod would flop because there's better speakers at that price point and Siri sucks. I said foldable phones would flop, and that seems to be panning out.

I'm something of a Nostradamus myself - I was saying just the other day the automobile and electricity would be huge; and hey, here we are.

Completely agree. I'm waiting for the reviews because I can either buy a 40" widescreen curved monitor or the headset. The headset I can take outside in the summer and work from the garden if its done right. Interesting times

I called atv+ a flop at beginning and sticking with it. Along with HomePod. AirPods Max (as it is now ).

Thing is Apple isn’t exactly going to tell you it’s a flop. It may linger around. You may see a new version you may not.

Like AirPods Max this will be interesting for the first few months at launch. It’ll die down. Supply will be limited which will create a sense of huge demand but it’s just the typical initial demand.

Its biggest draw is the emotional tugging they’ll throw at you about 3d videos. But still the 4k cost plus the hoops you to through to wear this thing, limited apps and software, clumsy inputs, isolated experience, can’t use more than 30mins, potential eye damage, etc will still be way too much.

Theres no harm in waiting. Have to see how these things are handled. Can we call it a flop? Sure as is it would be. Depends on what comes after and if apple really throws its weight at it.

Because I think we could all argue that HomePod, atv+, etc could be much better (or viable even) if Apple really doubled down with them. But it’s this history of Apple not doing nearly enough that is the concern with avp.

I am really curious to see if this will provide an "infinite" sized screen or not. If I can get a large screen experience supporting multiple monitors, while being fed by my MacBook while I'm traveling (at a hotel), then I am so there (imagine packing that much screen real estate in your carry-on bag). :) If it really is just a platform for watching movies, photos and iPhone videos along with limited VisionPro apps, I may pass. I keep dreaming of screen real estate but don't see anyone demonstrating that, so I'll hold my breath...
Since I do wear corrective lenses, I am curious if they can configure a ready to use VisionPro in the Apple Store that I can leave with, or do I need to wait for the custom lenses to ship?
Also I am curious about the audio performance: if I want immersive sound that cancels the environment I'm in, the audio system doesn't look like it would be effective (unless it lets you switch audio to AirPods Pro or something small that provides sound cancelling.)

The scenario of being in a hotel with your Mac and hoping to have multiple monitors? I’m thinking it’ll be clunky at best. Need solid WiFi or whatever connection with Mac. Need to use MacBook itself really for kb and mouse or have bt devices. You just have to ask yourself if it’s worth the hassle even if you get it all to work.

Shouldn't be that hard. Either plug in your Vision Pro to your Macbook via usb-c or airplay and it should be good to go, no? I haven't had to run airplay mirroring on my Apple TV via a router since 2015, so I expect the process to be pretty seamless overall.

I actually disagree with you about AirPods Max, that's been a hit lately.

Most Canadians live within 100 miles of the northern US border. Alaska would be out of the way to go to.
Yes, you are absolutely right. The poster was replying to me where I mentioned the possibility of flying to Anchorage to visit at the same time. It has been a dream of mine for a few years now…

HomePod was reworked and re-released with success (and replaced the Hi-Fi).

The iPhone 6 sold 13 million units on launch weekend.

Apple Maps is still around and supported.

How aren't these successes?

HomePod: a re-worked product is not the original.
iPhone 6: 13 million units does not make bendgate go away.
Apple Maps took years to get right.

Your assertion that Apple launches are *always* successful is demonstrably false.
