Makes no difference to me. I went with blue tooth ear buds about a year ago and haven't looked back. I hate any tether that restricts where or how I carry the phone so blue tooth was the answer for me.

well this isn't apple's solution. apple will make a pretty white one for only $20 or $30.
Let's get a couple of things straight.
1... Apple will remove headphone jacks and taunt it as a "feature".
2... Apple fanboys will cheer during the show
3... Apple will sell the adaptor for A LOT of money.

If this stimulates the wireless headphone industry to improve then it's a good thing. Obvs not a good thing for buyers still beholden to 3.5mm cables, but really we're getting close to that being a problem of the past. Personally I only have one set of speakers left I actually have to plug in - the rest of my speakers are BT/airplay or sonos, and I use BT headphones.

I disagree, the 30pin was a Apple only standard where as 3.5mm is universally used. It's more akin to Apple dumping CD ROM drives.

Stop crying everyone. The future is zero cables. Wirelessly charging and wirelessly syncing (if you still sync from your computer LOL). The iPhone 8 might not have a cable port for all we know and I'm totally excited!
Completely different. 30 Pin to Lightning is an improvement. 3.5mm headphone jack to Bluetooth/Lightning has more cons than pros. Bluetooth is wireless (pro), everything else is a con (ex. worse sound quality, using it across multiple devices, keeping it charged).
Same with Lightning headphones (only will work with Apple iProducts (no Macs yet), can't switch between any platform).
Umm, lots of people. USB 3 would have been better for everyone. Lightning cables are more expensive, built cheaply and no one I know cares about having the thinnest possible phone. It's killer feature was being able to go in upside down.

I disagree that this is comparable to when Apple removed things in the past.
When Apple removed the floppy drive, it was pretty much useless. 1.5mb of storage by 1998 was already laughably small - floppy disks was undeniably on their way out already and pretty much totally replaced by CDs. When Apple removed the CD/DVD drive from computers, those were also on their way out as streaming was taking over music and movies and USB drives were taking over file storage. The same could be said of when Apple got rid of the serial port, etc.
Further, Apple was not the first to make a smartphone without a physical keyboard, there were quite a lot already on the market - Apple was just the first to make it work very well.
The 3.5mm audio jack is not the same. It is not inadequate for the time and thus it is not on its way out and the replacements are not prevalent.

It funny how so many people complain about the progression of technology. It's a wireless world and if you think one of the main the leaders in the industry is not going to be at the forefront of it you are crazy. And omitting the headphone jack will also help in waterproofing the phone.
