It’s what I currently own so yeah. If I could do it again and had £2k to spare i’d get the metric halo lio8. Anyway, do other people have an interface by eg rme etc and are you able to record into logic etc with secure boot turned off?
Why you don't keep Secure Boot as default (enabled) and just enable external booting? HighPoint SSD7xxx cards still boot with the standard macOS kernel support for the Broadcom switch, you just can't use the HighPoint drivers (not yet compatible with SecureBoot), or SoftRAID, but won't disable audio routing via T2, what I imagine is the problem with your audio interface.

Like I mentioned, I have already solved the problem by using disk utility to create the raid and have re enabled secure boot. I would prefer to use the HighPoint drivers and get the speed benefits, interface, fan control etc though.

“Do not buy a HIGHPOINT 7101A-1 for a 4X4 NVME RAID with a Mac with a T2 chip & VRS8. The PCIe setting requires for the T2 chip to be turned off, and audio will not flow to any DAW.
I don't think disabling Secure Boot turns off the T2 chip.

I've been running a 2019 Mac Pro all day every day for 4 months now with 2 Apollo x8 interfaces (thunderbolt) running in Logic and Cubase, and a fully loaded 7101A using the Highpoint drivers with secure boot disabled. My primary Apple boot SSD is encrypted, which is done by the T2 chip hence I don't think the chip is turned off by disabling secure boot. I've had no problems at all.

This is great to know thanks. I’ll go back to slate with this and ask why their interface isn’t also working with secure boot turned off.

Just a thought - have you granted permission for your audio apps to use the Microphone? This is a requirement in Catalina - I'm wondering if that might fix your audio issue and the whole Highpoint thing might be a red herring. See screenshot below - you will need to click the padlock icon and enter your password to make changes.

That was the trigger for the suggestion actually - when I installed Luna it asked me to grant permission for the microphone, which set me wondering... :)

You've posted in the forum for the new Mac Pro 7.1. You might want to repost in the thread appropriate for your machine. Cheers.

thanks for the information. But unfortunately I can only operate the HP in slot 5 because I have installed two 5700 MPX modules. Would the card also work in slot 6 there only x8?

Why not use the Expansion Slot Utility on MacOS and change slot 5 to use Pool A? That fixes the issue. The details on how to do that are right in the OWC article that was shared.

Hi,

I've been burned by the Highpoint 7101A-1. I'm on a mac pro 2019 and get the kernel panic when the computer goes to sleep. MY 7101A-1 is setup in raid 0 with 4x 2tb nvme's. I've pretty much given up on trying to fix the kernel panic issue. However a new problem has arisen which is that because the highpoint requires disabling secure boot my audio interface (Slate VRS8) will not pass audio into the computer. So, i'm wondering about re-enabling secure boot and using softraid instead to create a new raid. What i wanted to ask is what are the steps i should take to achieve this? For example...

- re-enable secure boot
- reformat raid in disk utility
- use softraid to create new raid
etc?

I haven't done this before so want to avoid screwing something up etc.

Thanks for any help

Just checking, have you tried just disabling sleep or changing the pool allocation of the card? I have two Mac Pro 7,1's both with the HighPoint 7101A cards, and not a single problem with either. In both cases I have the card in slot 5 and in both it's allocated to Pool A. Zero issues since late December 2019.

This is my current setting, which is less than ideal, since both Sonnet m.2 4x4 are overloading Pool A, but this allows me to avoid the panic-while-sleep issue. As long as I don't copy from one Sonnet to the other Sonnet, I am getting the speeds I expect, so it's workable for now.

Even if I set my settings to pool B, I still have the panic error. Had even now removed an MPX module and operated the HP in slot 3. I also get the panic error here. I don't know. Wonder if another raid card (e.g. Sonnet) doesn't worry the same ...?

Sonnet uses the exactly same Broadcom PLX PEX 8747 PCIe switch and have the same problems waking from sleep.

OWC card uses a different one, ASMedia ASM2824, and still have the same problems.

It's a Mac Pro problem.
