I need help in getting the HP 7101 drivers to work. I have installed the Highpoint 7101 on my Mac Pro 7.1 with 4 Samsung970 Pros. I am trying to set up a Raid 0 array using the Highpoint software. I have installed the drivers and the GUI but the GUI cannot access the adapter. In system info screen, the HP extensions are installed but show as not loaded. I have reinstalled the drivers several times but to no avail. I should mention I have turned off secure boot in recovery mode.

I would appreciate any help in getting this to work. Thanks.

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers and GUI after disabling secure boot? Also, I assume you properly gave the drivers permission to run in the "Security and Privacy" preferences? You should have been notified during install, but you should also make sure that it's set to the "Allow apps downloaded from: App store and identified developers" option.

So you are using a raided highpoint to boot your 7.1 nMP?

No, I didn't feel like going that route. I am booting off the primary drive that came with the 7,1 and using the array for some heavy file work/scratch/cache drive.

I did all all you have suggested above. For some unknown reason, after several reboots, system preferences finally popped up a “do u want to allow....” Now working. Thanks all for your help!

the latest driver and webgui support fan speed control

aber ich seh keine möglichkeit im webgui am cMP
Are you saying you installed this driver and it worked for you? It doesn't work for my card (has v2.00 embossed on the PCB). Further, I emailed Highpoint and got a reply. Here's what they said:

Only new inventory have this feature added, in other words most likely our Reseller inventory doesn't have this feature enabled. But, if you could enable this feature for you if you could ship back the product to us.

They also offered to create an RMA number for me to ship it to them for updating my card.

HighPoint really should have changed the model number for the v2.0+ models and it's only confusing buyers and resellers, but really believe that's part of the plan right now. They're trying to clear old inventory as quickly as possible...

I think that this v2.00+ that can disable the fan is possibly just a firmware updated card. I really want to see high resolution photos of this version to confirm or disprove this.

Btw, in the past HPT updated some of the SSD71xx cards via an EFI shell firmware updater.

It sounds like it’s best to wait a bit until this clears up, and until possible new hardware gets announced at CES as well I guess.

i change my fan to this (2 pin) and the horrible high sound is gone

yes, my v2,00 has a 2-pin fan and i think this is the different to the new v.2.00+

so only the cards with 3-pin fan can regulate the fan

the temperature is up from 106F to 111F in idle mode and goes max 122F in full access

HighPoint uses 2-pin or 3-pin fans without changing PCB versions. There are v2.00 PCB cards with two or three pins fans.

I have to remove it again; -)

but it's the same connector as in the picture in #1,310, but without the blue wire

I'd expect that they used the 2-pin connector mounted on the 2-pin pads at the left.

OK, so I have a 3-pin PWM fan and a 2.00 board but no ability to turn off the fan with the new software. My money is on it needing a firmware update to fully enable this. Not a big deal...with the new fan mine is now silent and runs plenty cool.

my v2.00 has the 3-pin connector on the PCI side, but only a fan with 2 wires
so apparently an interim version

and yes, the new fan i installed from digikey is great

I've talked before that HPT changes the fan setup frequently at will, but your config is one that I didn't expected since the PCB has the pads and the support circuit for the 2-pin fan connector.

So, SSD7101A-1 PCB v2.00 have at least 4 versions:

  1. 2-pin fan with a 2-pin fan connector connected to a 2-pin fan header,
  2. 2-pin fan with a 3-pin fan connector connected to a 3-pin fan header,
  3. 3-pin fan with a 3-pin fan connector connected to a 3-pin fan header,
  4. 3-pin fan with a 3-pin fan connector connected to a 3-pin fan header and firmware that enable you to disable the fan via software.

Wow, that reads more like a v2.1, v2.5, or v3.0 should have been issued.
The most recent one (3-pin fan with a 3-pin fan connector connected to a 3-pin fan header and firmware upgrade that enables you to disable the fan via software), should have a different PCB version or different SKU from the other v2.00 versions that can't disable the fan.

The way High Point is doing right now with all these fan options with the same PCB version and SKU is a mess and makes very hard for a buyer to find the correct one.

but the digikey fan option is good for the cMP

and with the mMP i think it would be better to take the fan completely off the board and also remove the screwed on plate at the fan side and leave the heatsink up

Received a response from HighPoint regarding the 7101A-1 fan:

" Dear Scott,

Thanks for contacting HighPoint.

Our new SSD7101A-1 inventory already supported this feature ( see attached), but we cannot certain how soon our Retail Resellers will have new inventory in stock therefore we would suggest customers who interested in this feature buy direct from our estore -https://estore-highpoint-tech.com/products/ssd7101a-1?_pos=1&_sid=3d2977e26&_ss=r

Thanks.

This is the image supplied by HighPoint, which confirms this is a new software controlled feature but only available on very recently produced devices.

Only purchased my 7101 2 weeks ago (from B&H Video) and it doesn't support the fan speed set option.

I'll make a further enquiry regarding firmware updates for existing devices to enable this option.

Received further response from HighPoint:

" Hello Scott,

In order to enable Fan Speed Control feature on SSD7101A-1, we need to reprogram the controller in our facility. Let us know if you can ship the unit to us, we will issue a ship back number and ship to address.

Thanks.
