I keep reading there are notification issues with Huawei phones due to their power management or something. Would drive me crazy and it's one of the main reasons I haven't tried one of their phones yet.

I like the Nova Plus, but I don't want to deal with notification issues.

EMUI 5.0 seems to fix some issues, like a better notification panel. Thank God.

What notification issue are they referring to ? I get all my notifications.

Also if they mean the nag prompt of an app using power in background you can simply tell it to stop monitoring them altogether or opt to simply ignore and not warn you. You can even do this on an app by app basis.

For folks who have lamented the likes of Facebook on Android, it's a great to know Huawei have this covered because it does work.

The Honor 8 whatever it's doing is doing something right power wise as this device has the best standby drain of any android phone I've ever owned. It's akin to iPhone standby drain.

I have a few in my drawer I go back to once in awhile and they still have battery life, I think the Moto X Pure is one and the Samung Galaxy 6 Edge Plus was another. Unbelievable since most others are fully drained.

BTW, if I can get the Honor 8 at $50 off today at BB I will probably go for it. AND I will not get the picture quality from the camera that you can. :)

On other forums I've read people claiming they don't receive WhatsApp new message notifications or new gmail email notifications, for example.

From what I've read it looks like this happens when they select different power management options in settings. There's one called performance I think which keeps everything working fine in the background, but there are others for prolonging battery life at the expense of multitasking, and therefore notifications don't come as usual.

Something like that.

Maybe it's due to another thing. I dunno. It's what I've read.

Currently using one of these as my main phone, as I've loaned Herself my N6P while her LG G4 is in being fixed.

EMUI really is an iOS clone, visually. There's no getting round that in any way... Pretty cheeky, but they have their reasons I'd say.

EMUI (and the already mentioned insane power management) aside, this is a ridiculously good phone otherwise!

Now I've tweaked the power and notification settings, stuck Nova Prime on, and imported my layout from the N6P, I have to say I'm pretty impressed with it.

Performance wise, it thrashes the N6P at times, particularly when installing apps. That's pretty freakish to see...

Dual SIM is something I really wish Nexii and Pixel had, as it's a feature I've really gotten used to in the last week or so. I know it's not exactly special, but it's useful beyond belief, given signal black spots on my main network (Three UK).

Actual phone performance in general is pretty excellent I'd say, although I've not tried any games (and won't), plus I've had no compatibility issues with apps that I've seen mentioned elsewhere.

Were I not retaking my N6P, I'd be more than happy to keep rocking this phone though... External finish IS beautiful on the blue version, but it definitely needs a case as it's slippy as a greased up thing, not to mention the fingerprint magnet!

That's my 10 pence worth for now...

Do they make or have plans for a 5.5-5.7" phone of similar quality?

6.6". Or, perhaps look at the P9/P9 Plus but probably higher price bracket.
