Going with the Midnight Blue Leather Smart Cover for the front and temporarily using a cheap TPU cover for the back until I can take it to either Zagg or Ghost Armor to get the back done. I was originally going to get the tempered glass screen protector from one of those companies as well, but the performance of the Ghost Armor on my iPhone left something to be desired for the price, and the cheapest Zagg is $60 for a product that I can buy on Amazon for $14. Needless to say, I went the Amazon route and got it from Anker. We'll see how it hold up.

I got a skin from slickwraps.com and I love it. Very durable and they have tons of designs. Plenty to protect my ipad back and front. Waiting for a leather vinyl wrap cause I love the feel and its easy to hold, no slipping when set down either.

Im not brave enough to go for the Smart Cover. Plenty of ipads with the left side damaged from the cover. :(

When I finally get my 12.9" I think I'm going with the Smart Cover and I'm going to cut up a pair of old canvas khaki pants and sew together a sleeve for it, perhaps lined in panda fur.

What do you want to protect? Its solid metal.
iPad is a work tool. It can get some scratches. So what?
I usually want the resell value and it's higher without scratches.

I'll say with iPads I'll go back and forth. For this iPad I'm going to do just the Apple sleeve, and leave it naked. When I need to type, slap on the keyboard front and move on...

My phones, I prefer the leather apple cases...a naked iPhone is slippery.

Sounds like you're thinking of the first gen smart cover with the iPad 2-4. Those had a metal hinge that could rub against the iPad. Since the iPad Air, the hinge has been made out of whatever materials the rest of the case is: microfiber facing the device and either polyurethane or (now) leather on the outside.

What TPU cover are you using that is compatible with the Smart Cover? I want to get this Moko one (which states it is not compatible with the Smart Cover but their support say it is compatible with the Smart Keyboard) or the Luvvitt one (which looks too small to fit the Smart Cover). Thanks.

I bought that exact Moko actually. I know it says it's not compatible with the smart cover, but it's strange because except for the extra thickness, the Smart Cover and Smart Keyboard are the same dimensions. I took the gamble for $8. I think the reason might be that the corners are raised to keep the iPad in the case, but if it affected the Cover it should affect the keyboard too.

Do you mind posting some feedback about how it fits, when you receive it? It isn't Amazon Prime, in Canada (yet), so I wouldn't end up receiving it until late June or early July, so I wanted to be sure it fit. Thanks.

I tried using my current 9.7" IPP naked on the back when I first got it. I had the ridiculouly expensive front cover. I just did not like that naked back side so ordered that ridiculously expensive back cover too. Was actually surprised that for all its $140 (for both) I really do like it. And now....I am gifting the IPP and covers to my 17 y.o. Grandaughter! after ordering a 12.9"!

Anyone aware of slim and thin full cases that have a loop for the pen?

I don't care about the rear camera or mic, so I'll try to use my old rear cover.. at least for now.

Guess any third party sleeve made for it works, but why is everybody so scared about a few scratches? The back of my Air 2 now has a scratched, matte patina, with stains of something I cannot identify, some of it probably paint,BUT,the old workhorse still do it's job, just as it did when it was new. It's not the back that's important when it comes to iPads,it's the screen and the function.

People have different priorities. It's pretty simple.

I mean why sweat that huge gash your kid's bike made down the side of your new car. It still drives the same, am I right?

I have the Apple leather Smart Cover in midnight blue. Has anyone else with the leather Smart Cover noticed the protruding camera is starting to indent and mark the front of the cover when it is folded back (only a couple of hours use)? Very annoying and wouldn't be an issue if they still did the one piece leather Smart case

I'm stumped....

Apple sleeve is going back. Not worth the money. Looks ugly especially if you are not carrying the pencil that day.

Moko clear snap case & case/cover combos are going back to Amazon. Plastic has no scratch protection. I just know it's going to scratch my bezel. The snap case didn't fit well at all. I didn't even try the case/cover combos after peeling the snap case off.

Apple pencil case going back... keeping the belkin one that holds the accessories.

It appears Incipio is no longer making their Feather line for iPads (the last version I can find on their site is for the iPad Pro 12, 2015 version - which they're discounting currently https://www.incipio.com/feather-ipad-pro-case.html). This would have been my choice, along with either the Apple Smart Cover or Smart Keyboard Cover.

I've looked at wraps and don't think I can pull the trigger. Thinking about the process of applying a screen protector makes me want to bounce my head off the desk - those wrap installation videos inspire dreams of tall bridges.

answers about no silicon case

I can't fathom the decision making there. I'm still thinking some sort of supply issue, or other off-the-wall cause.

Edit: no longer making protective cases, however, may help shorten the long lifecycle curve that has been blamed for low iPad sales volume..

So I put it on today. It’s not bad, except the power button is stiff and it would decompress the button. Ended up cutting it out and it works great. TBH the case edges are too bulky for me. I’ll eventually replace it with a good back protector.

So what are you using? I bought the ASK and leather sleeve. I heavily want to return both because I can’t sit with the price for the sleeve and I would replace the ASK with a Smart Cover maybe.
