Been out of the country for a week, so finally got my mitts on my 10.5 iPad Pro, and first impressions are that it's fantastic. Coming from an iPad 3 it's a huge step up. The wife can have her MacBook Air back now! :)

Good to see some reasonable debate and feedback without prescribing it as a ‘must-have for everyone’ from people here! From the comments, and my own use this past week, it’s a very capable device and can certainly meet a lot of user needs. That said, it won’t work for everyone. And for those it doesn’t work for, at least you gave it a shot.

I’ve found that, for my current needs, a 27-inch iMac at home for heavy lifting and long periods in Office works great with the 10.5 as my portable workhorse although I know I’m rarely taxing it in terms of power. I’ve decided to keep my 12.9 (or rather my family have) as it’s working great for their requirements.

I will say iOS 11 is another step in the right direction. The beta has been really stable for me and I am already missing the dock on the original 12.9 Pro which will remain on iOS 10 until the public release.

I traveled this week for business and it's such a better "secondary" device to bring along on a business trip than the 12.9 iPad Pro that I had. For some things I *have* to bring along my work PC laptop, but this is a great device that can be thrown in your backpack for reading, movies, writing, browsing, Facebook, etc.

The biggest surprise to me about the new iPad is just how my use of it has changed by having a Smart Keyboard attached to it all the time. Much as I love the virtual keyboard, its so nice to have the full screen available all the time and my typing is more accurate and faster too. As a result I'm using it much more as a second computer that goes with me anywhere I go in the house and office rather than just for content consumption.

That's my reasoning for getting the 10.5, the iPad will not be my primary device, and so far I'm happy with the 10.5 in that role :)

I never use the Digital Keyboard unless for shorter texts. The physical keyboard works best for when typing longer documents. And the Smart Keyboard serves as a cover as well, which is nice to have.

iPad Pro +Pencil ; i'd say a match made in heaven:D. You never run of Pencil juice, it simply charges in a matter of seconds. I am completely hooked on my new travel companion; let the globetrotting begin. Suffice to say value for every penny spent so far

A couple weeks in after going iPad Pro only, I have been super happy with the 10.5. I sold my MacBook and I have found that I can accomplish everything I need to without issue. iOS 11 definitely adds a lot of functionality that I was looking for. I work in management and I am able to do everything I need to from my iPad. Email, spreadsheets, documents, web browser, messages, photos, music, maps, server management, everything is much simpler now. I think iOS is becoming a more viable and fun OS over macOS.

Sure thing! the size in hand isnt so big, its only slightly larger than the old 9.7" but going from 7.9 to 10.5 screen makes a huge difference. only thing ive noticed is the resolution, obviously, seems a bit lower, and Chrome I dont think, or IOS10.3 is set up to deal with the new resolution, and I think its scaling some apps at like 1.2x which makes them look less sharp. Hoping IOS and app updates resolve that.

Thank you so much ! I'm sorry not to have answered sooner ..
I'm going to wait a bit but will definitely bite the bullet some time soon . Your pictures a a great help .

I just returned a 10.5" after evaluating it for a little over a week. Here are my thoughts:

Held: The 9.7" feels more comfortable in my hands and I much prefer its on-screen keyboard size and spacing when using the device in landscape mode.

With a physical keyboard: The increased size of the 10.5" makes using the device with a keyboard easier on your eyes. Physical keyboards for the 10.5" are fairly close to full-sized, and typing on them feels pretty comfortable (though not quite as good as on a laptop).

Bottom line: If you plan to use your iPad mostly as a laptop replacement (i.e. with a physical keyboard) or really need the additional processing power of the A10X, get the 10.5". Otherwise, stick with the 9.7".

Hi what is split view like on 10.5 compared to the 9.7? Does it make it not so cramped now?
