My apologies in advance. I need to write this before I spend money ? I shouldn’t spend. In no way do I need a new XDR iPad Pro. My 2018 11” iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard are amazing together. A12X and 4GB RAM. Almost 3 years old and Apple is giving $455 Trade in Credit which is solid for a almost 3 year old device. Plus I can sell they Magic Keyboard for $100. That’s $555 I can put towards a $1099 12.9” iPad Pro.

Which makes me think, should I take advantage of this solid opportunity?

How Can Apple top this for 2022 ? Or will it’s be a A12Z non upgrade or a M1S chip not a full M2 chip. ? And the 8GB RAM are probably part of the SOC for the M1 so that’s why we get 8GB RAM base.

In short from an iPad Perspective Apple can’t top the XDR iPad Pro next year.

Does any disagree ? Could they pull an OLED Display from their sleeves ?

Personally I am expecting an M2 for the next pro (which will probably be a nothing more than a spec bump like going from A13 to A14 type of bump) it will probably be thinner, I doubt the design will change unless something changes with how the Apple Pencil connects to it.

After this release one of the main things I am looking for as an upgrade would be the camera changing to top landscape.

That’s not what I meant. And my poor communication skills are to blame. I’m saying this is hard to top. And it’s a solid 2-3 year iPad Pro.

My comment was just tongue in cheek and was just meant to crack a smile. I totally agree with you: this is going to be a fantastic iPad that will be seemingly hard to beat!

I think the next update will be incremental and also bring the mini-LED screen to the the 11” iPP. I’m with you — the new 12” iPP is a solid buy!

WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A WIDE SCREEN FORMAT, INSTEAD OF THE OLD 1980 SQUARE TV. AND HOW ABOUT THE IPAD PRO 14’.... WITH 16:10 ASPECT RATIO.... I USE THE IPAD PRETTY MUCH FOR VIEWING... NO ART,NO DEVELOPMENT....

I agree they will have a hard time to top it in features, the XDR display will be something else. I can't imagine how else could they push it further, hardware wise. Maybe with micro-LED, one day. But then what? This processor will last for 5+ years, realistically. Only the iPad OS need to mature, separate more from iOS.

Hardware wise it sounds great. Being useable and practical in a meaningful way with iPadOS 15 is another yet to be seen story.

I was really hoping for the TouchID button from the new Air to also be on the Pro, alongside FaceID. Or underscreen TouchID. I would love both options of authentication.

Definitely next year they need miniLED on the 11" too. That's going to be the deal breaker for me, and I can't imagine that's a minority opinion.

Why no U1 chip.. this is now in two generations of iPhones but not on the brand new iPad Pro. The functionality it offers seems really cool. Apple needs it in more of their devices.

Moving the front facing camera to landscape would be ideal. Or better yet, cameras on both orientations that work in tandem for an even fuller spatial capture.

I'm sure the next model will have an M2 or some kind of chip bump, but meh. Doesn't seem necessary or interesting at this point after the leap to M1.

For the people who keep wishing it ran actual macOS, should that ever happen, it would be really cool, using U1, if you could like mount iPads on your wall all right next to each other and they automatically turned into a giant grid screen with all cores working together, controlled by one bluetooth keyboard and touchpad. ?

I sold my iPad mini and am considering moving on to a iPad Pro. Does anyone here know if next years lineup will be redesigned.

The ‘21 iPad Pro is a very solid piece of hardware. But Apple almost always comes up with improvements that will entice consumers to upgrade. Does that mean next year’s Pro will make this one obsolete? Absolutely not.

Even with the massive spec bumps this year, last year’s Pro models aren’t irrelevant now. iPadOS will not leave behind any device made in the last 5-6 years at least.

But if we’re being totally honest, the 2018 Pros are still fully capable today and can take on any app you throw at it. Just sayin’.

Dont expect a new ipad pro until early 2023...and no Oled...apple is not giving us mini-Led just for 1-2 years (they will keep min-led until micro-led is ready, so 4-5 years at least)
Except the next gen 11" ipp to get that mini-led also and 100$ increase in price
Oled probably/maybe will come in the next ipad air

I was going to say that Apple could add some type of MagSafe charging to the iPad Pros, but as I thought more about it, it’s more likely that it doesn’t get upgraded next year - sticking with Apple’s 2 year cycle, as Serban55 suggested. After that, I expect we’ll see an additional Thunderbolt port added, although here too, as wireless speeds continue to increase the need for wired connections will diminish.

I’ve been using my 2018 12.9” iPP for the past couple of years as my daily driver and consider it to be one of the best “computers” I have ever owned. There are a few functional improvements I would like to see, such as the FaceTime / FaceID camera getting moved to the landscape position, and of course it would be great if they could get the battery life above 12 hours a day. That was my biggest hope for this release. The iPad Pro is so good, that between work days lasting more than 10 hours AND then my using the iPP for news / entertainment after hours, its all-day battery is not lasting all day.
