I picked up an IPP 12.9” (2022 model) earlier this week and have been absolutely blown away by it.
I have had iPad’s before, never the 12.9, but not had one for a few years now and the last one I tried was the updated iPad Mini when that came out. That was quickly returned, as for the price of it, the screen was just awful. I didn’t enjoy using it at all and found the size a bit pointless for me outside of the Kindle app, which is really where it shone.
I wanted an iPad, as my Chromebook (what I use for most of my web needs) is years old and will no longer receive updates from June this year, so it was either go for another Chromebook, or do something else.
I went for an iPad in this size as to be honest, I wanted the best screen. I watch content on my Chromebook and hated how bad the screen was on that (was pretty low res) and I’ve been chuffed with the screen on the 12.9 IPP.
I picked up a Magic Keyboard today. Really ummed and ahhh’d over whether to pay such a lot of money for it as I didn’t know whether I would even like it but I was finding the iPad difficult to hold for extended periods and missed a keyboard so thought I’d give it a go and at least I could return it to Apple if it wasn’t suiting my needs.
Typing on it now and wow. I am chuffed with it.
For my uses, this is the absolute perfect combination. All I ever used my Chromebook for was web browsing, streaming content, emails, forum posting / Reddit and YouTube, (couple of hours each day), and having this set up now makes all of that a much nicer experience.
I have also started to use this iPad as a magazine reader which has been a great experience.
I know that the overall cost of this combo is very expensive, and compared to a replacement Chromebook it is eye watering, but the iPad pairs great with my AirPods, I can pull it right of the Magic Keyboard and use it in ‘tablet’ mode as a traditional iPad and still get that experience, but I love how this now just sits on my lap really sturdy and lets me use it like a laptop. It’s the best of both worlds that these Chromebooks try to offer (touch screen, screen flipping right over into ‘tablet mode’) but just falls short in comparison.
I don’t plug things in to my iPad, I don’t need MacOS otherwise I would buy a MacBook. I’m really pleased with the experience the iPad and Magic Keyboard is giving me so thought I’d post in here seeing as there seems to be very conflicting views across the board!
