Pretty horrendous. As expected. I think this is the worst beta in terms of battery life. I've now turned off the Search items to see what effect that will have but I like having those features on. We'll see. No worries though. This is a beta after all ;)

After a couple of hours I turned off all the search items, battery IS better but not quite like it was prior to this beta. Still better though.

The battery drain is pretty intense. It wasn't even this bad on iOS 7 beta 1. If I downgrade to iOS 8, how will it effect my watch which is running Watch OS 2?

I heard Watch OS 2 is horrible, how do you find it? Wondering if I should do it...

It's about as buggy as you would expect a beta to be. But it's definitely usable. The thing is, the best new features of Watch OS 2 won't even be of use to you until after all the devs write their apps for it. It doesn't really do anything new and cool that's worth tolerating the bugs for. If I had the choice to downgrade right now, I probably would. I say don't do it, not until at least beta 3.

Won't do it. I was just reading another thread and there are too many horror stories and a few bricked watches. I'll pass for now!

Yeah, thankfully my watch still works pretty well and it'll only improve with time. But if I could do it over again I would wait a little while. Hopefully beta 2 will roll out soon and the updates will be frequent.

I first upgraded my iPhone 6 from 8.3 / disabled searches but my phone was remaining rather warm...
I have just backed-up and wiped it's currently restoring and i will let you know if it helped (like it did in most cases on iOS 7 and 8)

Fresh install and then restored from an iCloud backup.

Battery life is horrendous, get around 5 hours of use on my 6 Plus. Usually get around 12-13 hours. But, that's the life of a beta user

Don't think turning off searches really helped. My 6+ chomped down 7% of battery in 30 mins. Usually it's just 4-5%. As I'm typing I see 1% drop in like 3-4 mins. Lol

Added: sorry it's 10% for 31 mins of usage. When usually 10% gives me an hour.

Exactly. How can they say this gives an extra hour of battery life? Certainly no alpha build would give you an extra hour and if they're using a better beta version, why didn't they release that one?
extra hour tested with stock app and regular usage... it's a developers beta for a reason, so Apple can get feedback and let dev's know what needs to be changed in there apps to get that extra hour for users.

Thanks, had no idea that's what betas were for

It's difficult for developers to focus on their apps when the device's battery doesn't last that long

Anyone try killing all apps before heading to bed? Also see if there's any drain overnight in Airplane mode.

Every night I kill all my apps, put it in airplane and set it on my nightstand. It was at 78% when I went to bed, dead when I woke up. I'm thinking of doing a fresh restore of iOS 9 to see if battery life is better, because the battery life now is horrendous.

Thanks to some of my developer friends on Twitter, I learned that the majority drain has Siri to blame!

Due to Siri being contextual and and having features such as the new smart GPS locations, Siri dominates battery. Turning off Siri GREATLY IMPROVES battery. While it helps save a lot of battery, I found that even with Siri off, and 'low power' mode on, my battery is still MUCH worse than iOS 8.

With iOS 8.4 I usually get, nearly, 24 hours of standby, and 12 hours of active usage on my iPhone 6.

With iOS 9 Beta 1 I get 5 hours of standby and 2 hours of usage on my iPhone 6.

(With iOS 9) I charge my iPhone 6 up to 100% battery, and unplug it around 11 pm. I go to sleep without using my phone and when i wake up at 6:20 am (7 hours later) my phone is at 32%. Not sure why I get better usage time than standby time sometimes, but, just telling you what I know!

All my iPhone settings are configured to the lowest settings. Background app refresh has always been off for me. I recommend that EVERYONE turn background app refresh OFF no matter what, as turning it on honestly doesn't make a difference in usage features (it has no real use with it on), but turning it OFF will make a huge difference in battery. I've been doing this since Background App Refresh has been a setting, and I've not been left out of using any features due to turning it off, the only thing I've experienced is BETTER battery.

Also, there are quite a few location services settings turned on that drain battery, and aren't useful to the user. If you navigate to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and scroll to the bottom and select "System Services"

Turn off everything except 'Find my iPhone". If you use the 'share my location' feature in messages then you can and should keep that settings turned on to allow you to continue you to use the feature.

If you use spotlight for location based searches, keep that on as well. Near the bottom, turn on Routing and Traffic if you use Maps a lot, or jut want to have the feature on in case you ever do need to use Maps. Otherwise every other settings in here is NOT crucial by any means, and should be turned off to conserve battery, whether you are on iOS 7,8, or 9. I've always turned everything off, except for Find my iPhone and Share my Location, and I have never had any problems; only better battery!

Everything else in here drains your battery on system aspects that users don't actually interact with. Things like Call Network Search basically tracks where cell servers are and sends the locations to Apple. Things like this kill your phone battery, and don't truly affect you. You can Google what each one does if you are nervous to turn them off, but trust me, I've had them off for years, and I get great battery (as long as I'm not on iOS 9 Beta software LOL).

If you accept my advice, I can guarantee better battery for everyone! In order to attain better battery, turn Siri OFF and turn Low Power Mode ON (and keep it on until the issue is fixed). System Location Services should always be off, other than the ones you specifically know you use (Find my iPhone, Share my Location, and Routing and Traffic).

Maybe you just have some settings adjusted wrong! Or maybe low cell signal causes your problem, which isn't something you can really fix. What phone do you have?

iPhone 6
Background Refresh all off
full 4G coverage but mostly on wifi
Auto App Updates Off
Checking Mails manually - no push
most location services things off

i blame Spotify and Snapchat in part. Even went as far as deleting the FB app and using the mobile page instead

Should be fine. hm. have you checked your battery stats? Mind posting a screenshot of the battery usage page to show me what apps use what percent of the battery?

I've returned to 8.3. No matter how nice things are in 9 beta 1., I can't accept charging my phone every few hours daily.

Will return once the battery improved on the next beta.

I have discovered that the battery drain has something to do with cellular. As I said above I (with iOS 8) would go to bed with 100% and wake up with 99% or 100% and my phone would last nearly 2 days.

With iOS 9 I would to bed with 100% up with 30%. I put my phone in airplane mode before going to sleep this time Though and I had 100% when I woke up.

I'm not sure if it's wifi as well, but some form of data connection causes battery drain.

I must agree with you. Some have reported that their iPad Air 2 cellular have the same drain issue yet my Air 2 Wifi only does not.

I'm downgrading right now. I tried to stick to it but it's just not worth it. I'll try again with beta 2.
