Sure its iconic I agree with that. What I am saying is that they have not really added to that design because people like the way it is. They don't know anything different. Also when I was saying Apple plays it safe I was talking about software iOS. I think they could do more they really have not done anything to really change it. Again it works so maybe they don't have to, but I just think they could do more.

You keep saying they could do more. Did you have anything specific in mind?

Yea I think they could change the look of iOS. I think they could be the biggest thing. They keep giving us the same look each year and that is what I mean by playing it safe. If they could give iOS a more modern look that would be great. Add some quick settings what people have been asking for. Those are the things I think they could do and really not have to do to much.

They have done this before, so why can't they do something we did not know we need or wanted.

Quick settings I agree would be great, but hardly game-changing. If they did add that, I believe it will be considered an incremental upgrade, just like adding copy and paste was. As for looks, well, if they made it look different but it did the same thing, personally, I don't see the point. And like, for instance, when they changed the look of iTunes by getting rid of the colors and making everything grey, they made it HARDER to use. So I guess I prefer they play it safe, and not change anything unless they have to.

As for giving people something people didn't know they need or want, as I believe I've said before, that kind of change just doesn't happen every year. Maybe the rumored Apple TV or iWatch would be that kind of a product, but I just don't see the iPhone getting any revolutionary changes. I mean, think about it, if the iPhone underwent a revolutionary change, it would no longer be an iPhone -- it would be another product. Like, when the MacBook got a significantly thinner and lighter body, it was no longer the MacBook, but it was the MacBook Air. A significantly smaller iPod became the iPod Nano. And talking about the Nano, that's a product Apple keeps on changing frequently, and not always for the better, lol.

I don't know that the Apple press release says what the MR article thinks it says.

Here's what the Apple PR says about Ivey: "Jony Ive will provide leadership and direction for Human Interface (HI) across the company in addition to his role as the leader of Industrial Design. His incredible design aesthetic has been the driving force behind the look and feel of Apple’s products for more than a decade. "

Here's what Apple's PR says about Federighi: "Craig Federighi will lead both iOS and OS X®. Apple has the most advanced mobile and desktop operating systems, and this move brings together the OS teams to make it even easier to deliver the best technology and user experience innovations to both platforms. "

It doesn't sound like one has sway over the other. If anyone in this reorg statement has that kind of overarching primacy, it would be Mansfield, based on the wording of the PR: "Bob Mansfield will lead a new group, Technologies, which combines all of Apple’s wireless teams across the company in one organization, fostering innovation in this area at an even higher level. This organization will also include the semiconductor teams, who have ambitious plans for the future. "

Just my thoughts.

Well look at android. After 2.3 they went to 4.0 and it was great. Up until then they had only made small changes to it. Apple could do something like that and just make it feel different. It could use a fresh look.

IMO, up to 2.3, Android was kind of incomplete. 4.0 brought it up to par with iOS. iOS, on the other hand, was very polished from the beginning. So it is just fine with incremental updates, no need to do that kind of "leap."

What would be interesting to see is whether the next Android update would be just incremental or a big leap forward. I'm thinking that since they are now caught up with iOS, it'll be incremental. But we"ll see.

Oh dear "caught up with iOS" really? No going to argue that point, but I do not think the next android update KLP will not a major upgrade. IOS on the other hand was really good from the beginning, but that does not mean that it does not need something new. While iOS started of good it has not really changed, so I would say it has gone a bit in the other direction. While it does work and work well it has not really moved forward that fast. It works and does it pretty well just does not feel like something from 2013.

Keep in mind while iOS started out "good" it did that with some pretty big concessions: no user installable apps, no copy and paste, no MMS, etc.

But what it did, it did very good.

Yea I think it has done all the things it has done well. It just has not progressed as much as I think other OS have.
