How about the weight? I wonder how heavy it feels with the case.

The leather smart case is extremely light. It fits the iPad Air 2 well.

It never occurred to me to think about how it makes the iPad "bulky". It's fine and meets my needs. I love the dark navy ("midnight") blue color. It's hard to get this color in leather - usually just black, brown, and tan.

After reading some of these threads it reminds me of the fairy tale, "The Princess and the Pea". Some people are so discerning of faults, real or imagined.

It is indeed thinner. Just make sure to look at the little tag on the back -- confirm that it says: Air (Second Generation)!

You can also see from the pic on the back... The Air 2 cases show a single row of speaker holes in the picture, whereas the original Air cases show 2 rows of speaker holes.

Mine sits pretty far in, which I'm comfortable with because the cover kind of fits in the lip more securely. It's a plus and a minus. I'm giving it a few days before I decide. Mainly I just like that it matches my iPhone case.

I kind of like how there's a slight lip around my iPad air 2. It makes it easier to hold since the sides are so narrow. Strangely I had the same case for my former Rmini and it felt very different.

I bought the smart case and returned it pretty much immediately for the smart cover. It completely defeats the point of the iPad Air. I was hoping for a super slim fit, but it's too bulky. Too bad, because the colors look great.

Exactly, such a shame since I love the one on my Air.

Have you actually tried the Air2 case? Because my Air2 with case feels exactly like my Air1 did with its case. And the texture of the Air2 case feels nicer than the Air1 case, too.

Looking at what BestBuy has to offer on smart covers but in store I couldn't find one that said iPad Air 2 on it, just iPad Air.. There IS a difference isn't there?

yes there is the cutouts are completely different, i tried the smart case for the air 1 on my ipad air 2 and the camera hole is completely in a different place, the speaker holes are covered due to changes to the the speaker holes too
also no more mute switch and so the side cutout on the air 1 smart case is off balance with the volume buttons on the new air 2, its a mess. im going to buy the smart case for my air 2 tomorrow.

only thing i cant decide is if i should buy a black one like i had for my air 1 or a midnight blue. i have a space gray ipad air 2. what u guys think?

It's awful, I'm going to return mine. Much better aftermarket cases out there.

really? like which aftermarket case? because i dont see any high quality comparable leather case out there on amazon or anywhere, no aftermarket case will feel like the apple one.

I saw one in person today looks/feels like the pictures show. It isn't the same snug fit imo

Well, could be there's some variance among individual cases, because mine fits very smug, exactly like the one for Air1 did.

Mine is pretty snug as well, also no gap or light coming through by the headphone cutout, completely sealed

Does your cover fold flat on the back when it's open? My cover doesn't seem to want to fold flat.

Here is a pic of my iPad 2 in Smart Case lined up next to my iPhone 6 Plus for comparison

The smart case 2 is IMO better than the smart case for the first air. The cover actually sits flat on the screen. The lip is a bit bigger but doesn't feel as harsh on the hands. I hated the first smart case when I first got it, it almost chafed a guys hands.

Almost purchased one at the Apple Store, they had the navy case and the color looks awesome. Hoping it was the same quality as the leather case for iPhone 6 plus, I asked if they had a case on display and they opened the package so I could take a closer look.

IMO one of the most important parts of the case is the lip where it meets the display. Like I mentioned, I really like the leather case for the plus but the iPad air 2 case was nothing like it. Instead of the lip rounding off and making a nice transition to the display, the lip curves out and makes the iPad look and feel like its sitting in a bowl. Fail.

Also why didn't apple make their cases and covers multi fold like the aftermarket origami cases and covers? Seems like a no brainier. Poor market research on apples part. Fail.

At $80 I was expecting a lot more. Could justify the price if everything else was good but this was the third strike.

Yup it's sunken in the lip is horrendous. Poor design by Apple.

I was thinking about getting the case but I don't like it that you cant snap the front cover off when you are using it. It is all one piece. Might have to get the smart cover instead and a separate back of some kind.
