I noticed “Optimised Battery Charging” working initially, but after a few weeks or a month it stopped working or appeared to have no effect: always continuing to fully charge to 100% and never stopping at 80.
I figure that the phone learned I was a heavy user and wanted to always charge fully, but that’s despite not often letting the battery go below 20% and hardly ever below 10%. I don’t recall it ever going completely flat.
So I think the algorithm is pretty basic and could use some improvement. I have no real need to go above 90% most of the time and would be willing to sacrifice that 10% for a longer useful life. If and when I do want to go to 100 and the phone doesn’t do so, I can easily temporarily disable the optimised setting.
So it’s a great idea in theory, but the execution could be better; or at least give us an option to specify the maximum charge at a value between 80 and 100%.
