I just got in my new m1 iPad Pro 12.9" and I'm already considering installing beta 1. I expect it to be buggy, but are you all finding it OK to run on your main iPad?

In an earlier post I said I would skip this years beta, but a few hours later I took the plunge, lol.

So far no issues on my 2018 ipad pro, or my iphone 11. Ya ya ya, it's my daily driver devices and I know what I've signed up for and don't need to be reminded.

Also at first I was very 'meh' to ios15/ipad15, but I must say it's been very stable and the subtle changes are starting to really help with the overall 'feel'. Performance hasn't taken any noticeable hit and the animations are a bit more 'fluid'. probably all in my head.

Haven't tested the shareplay feature yet, but everything feels more polished. Either way, if you're not prepared for some oddities, wait for the public.

Thanks! Every year I say I'm not going to install the beta and then I do lol.

It runs wonderfully for me.... on iPhone 12 Pro.
On my iPad Pro, different story... feels buggier and home screen messes up a bit. It runs, just not as smoothly as on iPhone so far.

It’s great on my 12 pro, but I’m seeing a lot of problems on my aging 6th generation iPad. No show stoppers, just glitchy audio and hesitation with multitasking. To be expected with an older device, particularly in an early beta. Hoping it’s not 3 weeks before beta 2, but resigned to the fact it may be.

No body really complains about the stability of iOS betas because they know what to expect going into it. What people always seem to overlook however, is app compatibility and it's this that will either make or break iOS betas for you.

Too often people around there jump in and once they start their device as normal, they often find out that a crucial app doesn't work and they get all mad at Apple. lol

Been running it since day 1. My biggest issue is that when connecting to wifi, "iCloud Relay" keeps turning itself on, and a lot of times it will randomly fail. When this happens anything I visit on Safari will give me the error, "Your iPhone is not connected to the internet". Easily fixable, but definitely annoying that I have to toggle it so often. Other than that I've had some heat near the processor randomly, but nothing crazy. I don't think I've had any resprings/reboots. Battery isn't noticeably better or worse than iOS 14 was. iPhone 12 Pro Max, btw.

😳😳😳

What if you don’t use iCloud? Does this still happen?

It depends on your device. For me:

iPhone 7 (A10) - Stable but will miss some features
XS Max (A12) - Stable
iPad Pro 9.7 (A9X) - Lag and missing features

While its great that Apple offers upgrades for so long, there really is a sweet spot for OS versions on older devices where the device really runs smoothly. We know the beta performance will improve but with iOS15 then there's a lot of features that simply won't go to devices lower than A11 and (to me) the improvements are too minimal to risk a one-way upgrade.

On iPhone 12, I have encountered:
  • Multiple widgets stacks randomly and repeatedly insert Siri Suggestions widget
  • Laggy overall, although not objectionably slow
  • Video playback often freezes, sometimes resumes only with audio playback
  • Optimized Battery Charging is sometimes wonky
  • Sometimes gets stuck using Wi-Fi, even after I have long drove away from the network (need to reboot to resolve)
  • VPN sometimes sucks up a lot of battery life
All in all, it's usable if you don't mind restarting the phone once every 2 days or so.

Since you’re asking about iPadOS, I’ll say my 18 ipp 11 is working great. Only annoying bug is when I open my bookmarks, safari sometimes crashes. Otherwise all good. But I’ll say it’s not that exciting of an upgrade…

haha yes everyone seems to be responding about iOS 15 and not iPadOS 15. Most of this forum is about iOS 15 too. Thanks!

Does spatial audio with headtracking work with Music and Youtube on ipados 15? Why are so few people talking about it? It's huge?

Just installed PB and so far it is quite good; no resprings and twitter app just crashed couple of times but, it still works. Bit loss of frames here and there, especially when it comes to widgets on iPadOS screen..

safari does seem to be fine. Surfshark has stopped working and i can't seem to find a way to turn off Private Relay; Its not there for me on icloud settings page.
