Putting the iSight behind the screen would be stupid. Look at how thin the damn thing is already! Putting it behind the screen is either going to be a compromise in quality or make the screen much thicker.

I love the MBP design. It may be an older Apple design, but it's still worlds ahead of other laptops!!!

MBP looks better than the MacBook IMHO. Better proportions...

I like the MBP design more than the MB design as well. The BlacBook looks pretty cool, I especially like how the iSight is camoflauged (sp?), but I absolutely love the metal look of the MBPs.

I'd definately be interested in what a new design would look like, but I'm fine with the current look.

Any Mac is miles ahead of the competition, where it's pretty much, "Look at how shiny my case is, and how much crap they stuck on me!" It's like comparing a rhinestone to a jewel.

I thought it did have a magnetic latch. When I close the lid, the two things are magnetically pulled to connect to the casing.
Yes, but if you take a look at the MacBook, there is no "latch". There are magnets inside the top of the screen and where it meets the rest of the computer when you close it. So there technically isn't a "latch", just magnets which you can't see.

Except you can touch their rhinestone, and if you try and touch our jewel it melts your hand. :p

I seriously doubt the MBP is going to be re-designed anytime soon.

If so, they'd have to come up with some sort of new name, which they already did.

So my guess is, at least 2 years.

Thats a convincing argument but they used to put out g3 and G4 for the earlier Macs so why not "MacBook Pro 2" or a code or name to distinguish lines whilst keeping MacBook Pro for advertising etc?

Why would they have to change the name? They didn't change the name when the Powerbook moved from the black to titanium design.

Yeah why would they need a new name? I thought the reason Apple switched to a name with no link, intentional or otherwise, with the processor within the machine was so they could have some sense of continuity.

I doubt we'll be seeing a "MacBook Pro 2/3/4..." :)

I think it needs an update. Yes the Powerbook design is so far ahead of every other computer, but so was the iPod then they came out with black and... EVEN BETTER (well to me anyways).

Regardless if its better than the competition does not mean it can't improve over itself. I suppose one could even go as far to say that it woudln't be very Apple like if they just stuck with the design for alot longer and didn't try to improve upon their own selves.

I believe we will se followig major changes:
- 17" MBP 0.9" thin
- 15" MBP gets FW800, a 8x DL SuperDrive and a 68 Wh battery.
- All MBP's get magnetic latches and integrated, backlit keyboards.
- All MBP's get a resolution upgrade (1680x1050 and 1920x1200 :D )
- 17" remains 8x DL drive, which also is made possible for 15", due to thinner SD's available.

This may be crazy, but is there a possibilty that they won't have an iSight on top of the screen, but integrated into the screen, as it has been rumored is now possible?

no. u just wish this woud happen...;)

why r u talking bout design changes, its only been out a few months! if u want a magnetic latch and interwatever keyboard...GET A MACBOOK!!!!!!

I hope to see some refinements like megapixel camera, even higher res screens...but I would really like to see built in GPS, external OLED(?) screen for alarms and other info, OLED keys to program per application (perhaps functions keys first), and two buttons ;)

A screen for alarms and stuff would just get in the way. That's what Growl does with the built-in screen, and does well. Same with GPS-- just make it thicker and more expensive while not being useable to most of the population.

A megapixel camera I would say is a bad idea with the current abhorrent state of bandwidth in the world. Although it may be a good idea to include it, and then have the GPU downscale the video to 640x480. Hmm... maybe not such a bad idea after all...

OLED hotkeys would be nice though. Allow for the backlit keyboard to stick around as well, possibly.

I think Apple rushed into the first Intel machines (releasing them 6 months ahead of schedule) and just used the current Powerbook cases. There will probably be extra features added to it later on.

They couldn't have used the powerbook cases, as the MBP and pbooks have different dimensions.

As it stands i think the MBP/pbook is perfect. I'm sure they could update it, change the design, and hopefully it will be just as awesome.
Its hard to beleive these designs are 3 years old - but hey, if it ain't broke....

Ahh damn it. Do you think if we asked Steve nicely, he'd tell us when exactly they plan on changing the design?

I really hope the upcoming "Power Mac" has a revised design.

The next macbook pro needs to have:
1.) MEROM!!!
2.) an 8x superdrive
3.) a resolution upgrade
4.) be 100% compatible with leopard and windows vista (just in case)
5.) Firewire 800
6.) a magnetic latching system
7.) an integrated keyboard
Hopefully, Apple will announce it sometime in late August or September.

I agree with aswitcher there probably won't be a resolution upgrade.

And I like the current keyboard :(

Also apple should get the 802.11 n Wi FI in there laptops

If the higher res screens are offered, they should at least be optional. I find the pc laptops that have 1920 by 1200 impossible to read.

I spoke to a techy recently and he said the latest Macs airport is probably upgradable to N through firmware upgrading. Has anyone seen any analysis of the latest cards to verify if this might be so?
