If the higher res screens are offered, they should at least be optional. I find the pc laptops that have 1920 by 1200 impossible to read.

Same, I never understood this obsession with super high def laptop displays anyway. I am using a 20" display with a 1600*1200 resolution and it is just nice, any higher will probably make things too small.

New Apple MB(P) Design

I don't know, something like this would make a nice change...

If there are changes in design they should be substantial, i.e. something of the sort you posted here... Is that supposed to be a holographic screen? the keyboard is!
The present "Design" is flawless, however, the quality is by far not.
Wobbling screens (ever noticed that?) none of my old laptops had that problem.
heat-noise issues, faulty keyboards, screens, which have spots or other backlight issues, and so on... The list is much too long for a product relatively expensive, therefore unacceptable.

Sorry Mr. Jobs. Do your homework!:( I, for one, will wait until all major issues are resolved, including until the 64bit processors and the 800Mhz frontside bus is part of the setup...

Ciao

Since you are in Beijing why not just hop over to one of their factories, get a guest pass, and go to the assembly line and cherry pick the perfect machine for yourself? :D

Hell, in fact Apple should do this!

Sell passes to visit their assembly line for $500, and once inside you get a chance to pick your computer before you buy it!

Lol, right.

No but really, I'm so like, pulled between when and what to get. When I got my iMac, i just picked it up at the store (cheapist model) and went home. With the MBP, ive read alot of good and bad stuff about it. Alot of rumors about updates. Ive done my reasearch on this one, but still don't know when to get it.

Batman.

Wow, cool down batcan. I have a MacBook. I'm just saying, that I think Apple will not continue having cool features in a $1099 laptop, and keeping them out af a $2799 laptop.

I thought it did have a magnetic latch. When I close the lid, the two things are magnetically pulled to connect to the casing.

No, that different. The MacBook has 2 magnets on the top of the screen and 2 magnets in the casing. The MBP has 2 latches that are pulled down and latched into the casing.

I just went to the apple store last night...The glossy screens on the MBP's look terrific and I wonder if apple will make them standard on the next gen. MBPs. It is not that ugly HP or Sony extra glossy almost mirrored screen...it is a subtle, saturated look that makes this computer look even better!:D

I agree, the Glossy screens look much much better when put next to my PB.

Quite a lot of people don't like it, so as this is the pro laptop I would think it best to keep it as an option.

I still think, that the new mbp/mb should look like two ipods reversed, same lines, and shapes. the pros shoulf be in black, the books in white. BOTH shiny. like two ipods with the silver on the inside. i really like the ipod look, i think that type of flatness out look good on a book.

I spoke to a techy recently and he said the latest Macs airport is probably upgradable to N through firmware upgrading. Has anyone seen any analysis of the latest cards to verify if this might be so?

I don't think that's possible. 802.11N uses MIMO technology (multiple-in, multiple-out) which means it increased bandwidth caused by the slightly different times on which wireless signals are received by the router due to the signals bouncing off of objects and reflectivity. This also means that it needs to have multiple antennaes, sometimes up to 3, which the Airport doesn't have to my knowledge.

A megapixel camera I would say is a bad idea with the current abhorrent state of bandwidth in the world. Although it may be a good idea to include it, and then have the GPU downscale the video to 640x480. Hmm... maybe not such a bad idea after all...

Just to point out something, if you broadcast in 640x480 you are using a megapixel video camera. What that camera takes stills of, resolution-wise, is another story. But the current iSights are all megapixel cameras.

Would it make you happy if a whole bunch of Windows fanbois strap explosives onto themselves and bombed every single Apple location worldwide, shutting the business down?

Your MBP will be the last every released! So what!

There are MIMO 802.11G wireless adapters around too, so it'd be quite nice if Apple would shell out a bit of coin and get one of those instead of using the stock Intel option ;)

There is no reason the 17 inch mbp should not have a 1920x1200 screen

Why don't they just make it 300 dpi?

Until the OS is completely resolution independent, I think they should stick with 100dpi max or make these higher rezes optional.

They had glossy MBP at your apple store? I'll have to check to see if they have any in mine.

Yeah, they only had two, but they were gorgeous...it is hard to tell facing them directly while they are on, but if you look at one that is off from an angle, it is easy to see the glossy coating...if in doubt, ask a staff member.
