Ohhhh really fair vote that

Most people come to MR to post about issues therefore the vast majority of the mac community never even comes near this forum yet according to you 50% of all MBPs shipped are defective. Engage brain before you post slanted information

Hear, Hear.;) This is the "complaints department", after all. When are people going to understand that a few shrill voices do not an epidemic make. It always gets my goat when someone with an, albeit legitimate, gripe posts on this or other forums and projects their miniscule problems on the rest of the world. There is a host of mac users out in the wilderness without problems who are NOT posting here. Get with the program OP.! my MBP has been getting along swimmingly since day one...

My first ever mac and absolutely perfect loving the experience had my MBP just over a week 15" 2.2 faster than a fast thing

Mine is just a tiny bit yellow towards the bottom, not enough to complain about.
It has other problems though (it crashed the first time I was trying to post this).

my MBP is flawless.

btw, the results of the poll, "Is your new MB/MBP defected?" are biased due to the wording of the question. You can argue that people with defective screens will enter the thread more often than those without, who feel the poll doesn't want their input. Based on the title of the question, it appears the only thing that the poll is telling us is: among the mb/mbps that are defective, what percentage have screen defects.

Perfect. Got mine the first week.

Couldn't agree more with the original poster. This forum reflects a skewed view of how much of a quality problem there really is. Of at least 10 Mac laptops over the last 10 years owned by my immediate family not one had a problem with the screen, not even a dead pixel (other than the one that was dropped, had the screen replaced and now has slightly uneven backlighting) and only one serious hardware problem (dead motherboard on a 4 year old TiBook, replaced, still in use today). Of about 30 people I know who own Mac laptops and chat with about computer stuff only one has had a 'serious' problem (original MBP that died 3 times before being completely replaced by Apple).

Apple quality is great.

My screen is so good (week 42, "new" brand of LCD - 9C6D), that I'm relieved that only the DVD drive is porked :)

Cheers!

Glen

Well, thank God for sites like MR and all the complainers. We owe them (ourselves :D) a debt of gratitude for keeping Apple on its toes, which ultimately translates to a better experience for the average owner of Apple products.

My glossy 2.4 is four months old and perfect. I've rendered video and played games (savage/wow) for at least three hours everyday without any problems.

Don't know where to check the week of mine, but my 2.2GHz MBP is absolutely perfect.

Such a good experience with this, my first mac, that I'd go so far as to say I'll never be purchasing a PC again (except for work purposes I suppose, since my office is PC-based, but even then it'll be done grudgingly).

I must admit when I read your posting, it annoyed me.

I have spent the most ever on a laptop and bought a MBP and for £1,700 I think I have the right to complain if there are any defects.

Perhaps if you have had to go through the rigmarole of spending ages on the phone with Apple trying to get it fixed, you may be a little frustrated. I have waited nearly 2 weeks each time for a MBP without any problems and am now on for the 3rd one.

Imaging you spent a lot of money on a new TV, you get it home and the picture is terrible and it is a hardware fault that happens on both Sat, DVD and VCR? I don't think you would sit there for long and thought oh well, there are bound to be some problems, i'll ignore it.

I am usually quite placid and patient, but not when I spend a huge amount of money from a manufacturer that prides itself on quality!

/Rant over/

PS - in the spirit of this thread, my MacBook Black is perfect (and that cost me half of my MBP)

PPS - while waiting for my 3rd MBP I have reverted to my old PPC iMac G5 20". Flawless - I am seriously considering giving up on the MBP and be done with it!

I would rather spend time on the phone with Apple tech then Dell. At least apple does not outsource all of their calls like dell. I bought a $4,000+ desktop from dell and had nothing but grief.

What annoyed me about your first post was that you think apple does not have good quality control because there are some defective units. everyone has them. it's technology. apple offered you money back and a replacement. that is more than fair. trust me, i am not an apple fan boy that just wants to cheer for apple.
