Me and my pops both want one. My dad wants a 3G version to just make on the road things easier for him (he travels to indiana often). I'm gonna get a WiFi only version. Don't need the 3G, and i'm sure i can eventually find a way to tether my blackberry as a wifi hotspot :p but i want it to just make browsing and stuff easier. on the go i can sometimes leave my macbook pro and just use my iPad for skyping my podcast recordings and things like that :)

I'm definitely getting one. My mom wants one, but she made a new year's resolution to live frugally this year, so she won't buy one herself. She wouldn't say no if I were to buy one for her, though. :D My partner is on the fence about it, but I suspect once I buy one, fights are going to break out over who gets to use it when. I give it a fifty-fifty chance we are going to end up being a two-iPad household.

I'll most likely just get one for my fiance'. I already have an iMac and just picked up a 15" macbook at christmas so no need here. She's like simplistic and reads a metric shitton of books and also does = amounts of iphone aps so ipad w/ 3g will definitely be going to her. I may end up getting one but 1 will suffice until at least next year if I do happen to feel the need to buy a 2nd.

I havent talked to a single person outside of MacRumors who doesnt think the iPad is a joke. Whenever i bring it up someone says "i already have the iPad Nano!" and holds up their iPod.

You need more/better friends/acquaintances.

Lol. Obviously only smart people like the iPad, right? It must be that all of my friends and family are idiots right?

To be fair, one person i talked to was considering one for college because he thought it could multi-task. When i told him it couldnt he forgot about the iPad pretty quickly.

Hmmm...EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE I have spoken to (family, friends, coworkers, you name it--NO ONE thinks the Ipad is something they will be buying. It's been 100% "NO". and that's not a "no" that was given because I or my wife had suggested first that the ipad is "unworthy". This is an Apple geek site, and as such will have a preponderance of "I'll-buy-anything-apple-makes" fans salivating over the thought of a new apple device. In the real world, a far smaller percentage of the population (over 300 million in the US) will be buying iPads. I've no doubt many millions WILL be sold and enjoyed by their purchasers. Some will go back for refund perhaps when the new buyers find that the iPad can't do some things the uniformed simply assumed it would do. some will just suck it up and deal with their disappointments and keep it. that's their call.

I want one, loads of people i work with want one.

I think a lot of people will wait to see a)if the price drops, b) if one with a camera is released.

I think you'll find i have said time and time again that I agree that apple will sell millions. In fact, I KNOW I've said that here many times. You don't need to convince me that they will sell some ipads. But the fact remains the early buzz on the street (apple fans notwithstanding) is VERY NEGATIVE. I hear the same refrain from everyone IN REAL LIFE that I have asked--the iPad has the limitations so well discussed as well as they don't see the point in having one, even if it didn't have it's limitations. Too big for pockets, redundant with Touch/iphone, can't do what a laptop can do, yada yada. Many people feel it is a solution looking for a problem. That won't stop apple aficionados from waiting all night to buy one on day one. But the rest of the world doesn't care--we'll just sit back and smirk at the news reports of long lines forming outside of Apple stores. It all seems very juvenile, IMO.

Zero.

I asked around. My sister thought it was dumb. Dad thought it was pointless. Brother in law doesn't need digital toys. Girlfriend couldn't understand why it was just an ipod.

Maybe my niece would want one. She's 7 months old and lunges for anything that has a dedicated light source.

I'm getting one...my brother might be interested also. I think this would be the perfect device for my mom. She reads email, surfs online, and occasionally prints a document. I think she'll be interested once she sees and tries mine.

Obama the only one. I am still undecided because with something like that all I really want it for is to go on the Internet. I already have an iPhone. I just wish that the ipad had the 'full' experience with the safari browser. As in I wish it could run flash.

So until they make a move to fix that whether it's HTML5 or flash. I'll be waiting so I can get one.

We both want one, but without thew ability to watch Hulu or stream DVDs to it from our Macs we can't fully utilize them. The latter would be an awesome feature that hopefully the final release OS will have. Honestly I'm not getting into a Flash argument with this reply, just answering your poll.

My wife wants one now, which is unusual, because she really doesn't give a crap about computers or Apple. Though she has been growing to love her iPhone, so I guess that makes sense. Plus she never does anything beyond email, web, Word / Excel and games. Check.

I'll be bringing mine to class.

No kids, so 2/2.

in my house we are only 2 adults and a baby and we have a ton of Apple stuff including 09 Macbook Pro, 09 Mini, 07 Mini, 06 Macbook, 00 G4 Powermac, 2 Nano's, 80GB iPod Classic and an iPhone 3GS and this is the first new thing that Apple has put out that we have zero interest in. it was a sad day in our house when the rumors of the iPhone OS were announced to be true.

as you can see i am a huge fan of Apple products but man was i disappointed.

i have a $299 netbook with full SL OS X, 10" screen, 1.6GHz Processor, 2GB Ram, video out, front facing cam, 9 hour battery, 3 USB ports, wireless N, SD card reader, and can be connected to my phone anywhere for 3G data. i was completely ready to get rid of it and get the iPad at pretty much whatever it cost just cause i like having the Apple hardware and only had this netbook while i waited for Apple to release one but they didnt and instead gave us a big iPhone.

the Google Nexus one phone has a 1GHz processor which is easily overclocked to 1.5Ghz and that alone is sad to be able to say.

where is the dual core and where are all the things that my little $299 netbook has?

hopefully someday they will give us an option for a small laptop but this is certainly not it.

Lol, someone is a little butthurt that the whole world doesnt think the iPad is "magical."

I don't know about that. You are the one running around telling everyone how dumb your friends and family are, not me.

it is kinda strange to ask a non geeks about the ipad. they just don't think about it. when the socialites start using them then they will want one...
